Had two good perilous runs to end the eve but before that had a grueling nightmare run (we wiped on wave 4).  I can't see myself pugging nightmare or beyond very often at all.  Matches take too long, people will leave if they go down, a weak link will die early and often.  Had very little fun playing that nightmare match, just a grind.

But were your files enumerated?

Pugged nightmare last night because I was feeling masochistic. Ran into two AWs already in session so I picked mine as well and got in. It was slow going. If I had to bet on it, I'd say we were all around the 30/30/30 stat pool. Probably less, judging by the numbers I saw going out. All Dragon staffs. But we were up against demons so we had an edge. One person had PotA, one had spirit blade, two had fade step, two had Stonefist, all had lightning, etc.

Halfway into Zone 2, an archer joins and gets killed in a few hits. We res him, he tries, valiantly I'll admit, but keeps dying. Annoyingly, despite the three AWs in the room throwing out salvos of elemental and spiritual fury, the demons beeline straight for the archer even when he hasn't attacked them. We try our best to keep him safe and resed, but it doesn't stick. No blame toward him, he was trying to play smart but their faster animation speeds and relentless aggro gave him no room to escape.

By the time we reach the dragon, he fades out 3 times. Fades out a 4th before the first takeoff. In the end, it was a grueling, monotonous 40 minutes (from the time I joined), but it got done. Makes me wonder exactly how much stronger enemies get per fade out. I got a level 12 gray staff for my troubles, which I should have expected.

As an aside, I wish there was another class that could be used in more difficult content earlier on. Just for a bit more diversity.

Yes, the one redeeming quality of the game session.  I always get a sense of calm when firing up the game knowing in my heart that the saves are being enumerated, and then I get 4 disconnects in a row.

Apparently if I recall suddenly you can only access some single player dragon items if you kill dragons in mp?  I could be wrong but that would explain a surge of new players.

Hopefully the existing player base will be patient and helpful to the new players and aid them in their quest.

I had my first nightmare dragon run tonight, Demons, and I was lying on Ferelden soil most of the time...but it was still fun, I like a challenge.

It was a private lobby. It took 45 minutes to kill the dragon eventually with two players in the top 50. Seconds before the Dragon died, I had a crash. No xp for me and of course no new weapon.

But I think BW was right, it's good to know that no one who leaves a game early on purpose earns any xp. Even in private lobbies.

The rampant game leaving has to stop. I'm talking about you, Gya, why do you leave my games all the time?

I love how I keep seeing people bail after being overwhelmed on nightmare runs, probably hoping to join some other game with carries, instead of maybe giving it a few tries, getting practice in and maybe getting better.

Better yet, gotta love people who aren't leaderboarders (or just known very good players) readying up with just two or three in the lobby when I know that myself and the other person aren't good enough to make up for having a smaller team. To hell with starting off short and hoping someone joins, it almost always ends up in a wipe and back to people bailing.

Some leaderboarders are pretty cool people, but I dunno, I think I'd feel more accomplished getting my first hakkon gear while on a team where everybody contributed equally instead of being carried to some degree.

Obviously here by "love" i mean I'm glad I have a mic-level-mute push-to-talk because sometimes I can't contain nerdrage

I just tried some tries with that. But that reaver host kept running forward like headless chicken, kept aggroing the whole zone, and kept dieing on the castle bridge. After 5th game of the same thing repeating itself, I gave up, sorry. It makes sense only if people can adjust.

I just can't see myself playing nightmare often in pugs. It just requires far too much time investment for even one run. I've had a few good runs about 13, took well over an hour. Fastest time was just 40 minutes or so with spawn blocking/speed running with top ten leader board players. Each of these runs netted common loot.

Also, nightmare is not a good difficulty if you want to carry because enemies seem to have their health and dmg pool increased considerably if any member of your team enters the fade. Ventori shield gladiators had 18k+ health while archers had over 10k + with three members downed.

It is very difficult to carry bad PUGs, carrying two of the 4 team who are PUG is truly a nightmare

Thanks for this. I was really curious as to how much stronger enemies became because I had to try that much harder after 3 or 4 members faded out. That's a pretty frightening increase.

Yes, venatori are strongest on NM. Demons are moderate except of despair ones. Templars are easiest IF you know how to survive in zone 3.

Nightmare FC Demons.

Started with 4 (you know who you are)

One guy had to leave on zone 2 for RL stuff.

Continued with 3.

One guy d/c zone 3.  Continued as 2.  3rd managed to rejoin a bit later in zone 3.

Two died zone 4.  Solo'd zone 4.

One died on dragon and had to leave/rejoined game.

Won as 3.

Got a level 15 blue dagger lol. Others got a white....

I was gobsmacked but what a run

Loved all the chaos and crazyness.  Let's do again tonight guys!

EDIT: Edited for spelling cause I suck.

Tried Nightmare FC with some PUG's as an AW, Keeper, Lego, AW.  I was one of the AW's.  We survived until Zone 3, but it became very apparent, very quickly, that we needed more DPS badly.  Enemy has a lot of health, and as tanky as we were, there just wasn't enough damage being done.  You get swarmed real quick.  Still fun.

AW is very good for it if you get demons.

I did it as AW 15 , SB CL FS FC and it worked really well soloing zone 4

Granted I had to use all my potions, rock tonics, lyrium, spirit.   Guardian spirit kicked in a few times too.

It may not be up there with the big DPS classes but boy can AW survive to at least win.

EDIT:  I think I would rather play Avvar though.  Balanced team seems the way to go for quicker runs.

Couldn't find any lobbies for nightmare attempts last night, instead decided to go into a heartbreaker game solo with my level 18 elementalist with the goal of killing one enemy since I have never tried nightmare......I failed.  :P

Also I am now a member of the super Legionnaire club as I also had his level set back to 3 even though I was much higher.  I'm now at about level 12 I think and have all but one of the passives.

What do people generally do if they are in a pug and get a game invite?  Do you stick in the game or bail and go play with the people you know?  I normally stay because I hate abandoning a group mid game but I am robbing myself of the ability to play some higher levels by not joining games with my high end, high rent players I know and play with at times on here.

I typically leave the pug and join my friends.  I enjoy party banter over silent random lobbies.
