On the PuG grumbles...

  • Why will folk enter a lobby if they are not ready to play !  and
  • Why run ahead all the time when the others are opening a treasure room, stay together !
  • And when we've killed the guardian, don't run through the next door before we opened the $£@*&! chest...

Just had this very fricking issue... annoys the shiz out of me.

Also if your only a lvl 8 hunter do not try to be john rambo.. you will die and you will be left to enter the fade everytime you go down as the rest of us who are in the treasure room you didn't have time for are now fighting all the guys who killed you. And this is doubly true if you are the same hunter who is trying to speed run through every room and causing the rest of us to miss out on loot, however crap it may be, i need my silk god dammit.

I was just in a lobby with you, and a legionnaire wouldn't ready up. The 3rd kick vote didn't come either, so I left.

Darn, that's the problem with same gamertag and username - people you chat to get to find out you suck at playing   :D

I'll keep an eye out for you, the regional matchmaking seems much tighter than in MEMP...

Second PuG in Threatening went better than the first, although we still wiped.

I figured we'd be okay when I saw the level 20 Arcane Warrior and the level 17 Elementalist, but we ran into some pretty serious problems in Zone 5.

Three host migrations in one match. After two in the previous one. I promptly initiated the fourth.

I played several matches with a person named ivy...something. They were using a level 10-ish Katari. Cleared them matches like it was nobody's business.  :D

During the final match my game crashed to desktop though, so if you're reading this ivy-person, I'm very sorry, and gg!

A big issue in PuG is complacency.

Sure you have your solid builds, (plus a person or two who might not quite be optimum level but want the gold/xp),

but even a tanky Lengionnaire with full guard will go down if he's caught exposed in the wrong place.

When a mission is going well, sure go and open up that treasure room, there's only a couple of foes here...

And then a couple of archers spot you, and the treasure room triggers a guardian, and suddenly you're in trouble...

You've seen the movies where the SWAT team clears a bad guys hide-out, room by room, covering each others' backs,

not running around like loonies fretting about loot jars...

Had one earlier today.

Join a game in progress, threatening difficulty, on my Level 12 Assassin, don't play her much so getting some practice time in.  The lobby has 2 Reavers and an Archer, No mages.  Seeing this I figure screw it and switch to my lvl 18 Elementalist (The only mage that was of level at the time.)

Get in the game, the Reavers rambo it up, I follow the Archer as he opens up a treasure room to make sure he isn't alone if it's a Guardian, it's not.  Head back to the Reavers to see them getting mauled by like six or so dogs and some Venatori.  When I arrive on the scene they are already downed and crawling around, the dogs start coming for me, I'm like "Well fawk."

Using Barrier, Fade Cloak and Stonefist, I try to clear a path, but the mobs were too many.  The seconds tick by and I see the Archer and I are getting overwhelmed.  Looking around I see it might be a wipe, unless....

I Firestorm the dogs and Venatori.

True, it was possible the dogs would bug out, but then again we were all going to die anyway, the fire rains down and we manage to clear the mobs.  As I'm reviving one Reaver he says on voice chat. "F 'ing firestorm now it's gonna bug!  It's not worth it guys!" He ragequits.  I look down at the bottom-left of my screen.

"Key Collected." The text reads.

I breathe a sigh of relief and the rest of our group proceeds to finish the run.  I send a message to the Reaver that quit, informing him it didn't bug out and thanked him for quitting :P

I had a few really good threatening runs today.  An entire goup that not only knew how to play their characters, but didn't run around pulling mobs mid-revenant (or the other way around)!  I stuck around with them for a while, until the rest of them left.  Followed by about 5 in-lobby host migrations over the course of 10 seconds.  I decided to get the hell out of there before my horrific hosting took over.

Last night I was pugging and hit a key glitch with the group I was in.  Most of the group spent time running back and forth on the map and after a few minutes I sent two other players a message saying that kicking the host would reset the wave.  I wound up getting kicked instead.  Bad etiquette on my part or bad choice on their part?

The pugs might've been friends with the host.  I've messaged other people to kick the host when we got the key glitch multiple times and never got kick votes as a result, so you likely were the random in a lobby of friends.

I appreciate that the Katari had spend significant portions of the game on his ass,

as the three Archers were not going to be running into the pack to pick him up.

But rage quitting as host on the final zone (as he lay dead yet again)

was a bit mean as the Archers were getting the Demon Commander down quite nicely.

Naturally on restart, the Archers wiped...

Ok, I started some adventurous pugging on gold/periluous with lol-arcane warrior level 17 as on silver the guy is OP even in my sloppy hands. Surprisingly it did not go that badly. First three games were very laggy on some host who talked a lot like really nonstop about everything including his build, movies, and even news. All three games wiped on zone 1 or 2. After that I got some superb belt of spirit resistance and vigorous staff finally that has 1% heal on hit and enchanted it to have 4% heal on kill and hosted three more games which went much better. No extraction yet but we got demon commander to a tiny-tiny sliver of health in the second game (well, maybe less than 1% as I could not see his red health bar at all) on zone 5 and were that close to extraction before the bastard decided to cheat and kill two remaining people (me and a keeper) in one strike. We were not very close to each other, not sure how it happened. Two other games wiped on zones 3 or 4 due to archers. The main problem as I see it with the archers is that not only they hit hard but they also stun and there is no way to get out if there are more than 3 of them guarding the narrow passage. I wish there were more side passages on these maps. Spirit blade blocks a part of damage but does nothing to stun lock.

Overall, the experience has been very positive as on gold reasonable people play more conservatively and don't rush stuff. Also, we killed a giant in one of the games which was very satisfying. It took a while though.

I just unlocked the Alchemist, and played my first game at level 1.

I LOVE HER

I WANT TO HAVE HER BABIES

I read this in the borderlands psycho voice.

My last pug was a hacked perilous game. Nobody was taking any damage whatsoever. A first for me, though i usually host my own lobbies.

I'm at the point now where I greatly limit the amount of PuGs I play with. This is because I get annoyed more often then I get impressed.

That said literally every person on my friends list, including the guys in my regular group, I met in PuGs, so I will occasionally open my games to public for a few matches in the off chance I may meet another person to add to my ReG (Regular Group) rotation, or at the very least run into some folks who are OK with earning some quick XP as I run through the session.

I understand some players out there want to break every pot, open every door, refuse to sprint and would rather walk to the door then be teleported.

I am not one of them.

Most of the matches I play now are to gain as much XP per hour as possible. So I can get more promotions, more often. The last few matches I run a day are normally gold runs where I will run through collecting all the gold I can on the map. These are the ones where I normally change from Private to Public.

On the subject of trying get all the gold on a map, most of the more experienced players are more then happy to run over and open that treasure room door and/or kill the guardian for you, AFTER everything else has been dealt with and the key has been collected. This is for two reasons:

1. While I'm in the treasure room fighting the guardian for you, one of the other menials is out there "accidentally" aggro'ing the other enemies and dumping them all into my lap, just before he hits the floor and politely starts spamming the "Come here" button. Which I assume is his way of asking for a revive.

2. I'm in the treasure room fighting the guardian for you, and fighting the twelve adds, while picking another dude up off the floor so he will stop spamming that damn "Come Here" button. Now, during all of this, the weapons cache/heirlooms/scrolls are burning to ash. So now I have traded what would have been a 100 gold bonus completion and a 42 gold chest for the 42 gold chest you had to have. Right. That. Second.

Speaking of treasure rooms, not every treasure room has a guardian. More specifically shortcut rooms NEVER have a guardian nor do they have hostile spawns. Now that you know this, there is absolutely no reason for you to stand next to the door of a shortcut room, that you can open yourself, spamming the "Come Here" button. I am really not interested in watching you and the other two menials race the 7 yard dash to a chest, this disinterest is exacerbated when you expect me to backtrack half the map to watch your foot race.

I'm not trying to sound hostile or condescending but you asked what my last PuG was like...

Joined a threatning lobby with what looked like a group of friends, one tried to kick me (I guess because he thought I was too low level). The others gave me the benefit of the doubt and for the most part it was a smooth game. Things got a little hairy on round 3 or 4 because a Druffalo was waiting for us near the exit, he annilhilated the team and I was left to effectively clutch the round. Thankfully the beast was already weakened

Amazing how a good working PUG can make perilious difficulty level feel like only threatening difficulty. A pity that the "no key" issue destroys such a group almost every time. However, most PUGs leave me with unanswered questions, like;

Why do players almost always choose mages on perilious? Isn´t that a bit boring? And all those lost potential epics behind locked treasure rooms!

Why do so many Arcane Warriors play solo in a group?

Why do Elementalists think that tipped hats look good?

Why does everyone ignore the archers?

Why are PUGs always charging into an open area instead of pulling the enemy around a corner? Where have all those vanilla-WoW veterans gone?

Why seems nobody to spec and work for unleashing combos? All I have seen so far is shatter combos. How about sleep and stun primers?

Also, why level 17+ players still need to play on threatening difficulty escapes me. It is very difficult to find a perilious PUG for me, and when I do, they play like noobs, probably because they were used to their OP runs in threatening with all epic equipment...

I want to, now, too. Because it is just too much pain in the ass to actually find a balanced PUG on perilous. So much for the challenge. I am actually considering a downgrading of my equipment for better challenge. How sad it is.

Not my last pug game but a few days ago I finally had a large blow up over the mic with another player which is pretty rare for me in this game or in all of the ME3 matches.  I'm sure he would or has told a different version of events of match but I'll relate my version.

I'm hosting using a level 6 archer with a great bow on the easy mode, three others join we are easily moving though the first level or two pretty cohesively, killing things, getting all pots and all treasure rooms.  However pretty soon the Arcane Warrior is off running ahead full speed to each spawn, ignoring all treasure and rooms and not sticking anywhere near the rest of the group.  Now this is not a big deal on the 1st waves or two but sooner or later you know the guy is going to wither go down, activate a spawn that bleeds back to us or the rest of the group is going to be taking on a tough chest room monster.

Thus I do something rather rare for me and put a kick vote on the guy, not expecting him to actually be kicked (people don't even look at the player screen in game most of the time).

Well, on goes his mic and he goes off on a major child like rant because he got a kick vote, berating the group and telling us how his level 4 Arcane Warrior is carrying the team etc, etc.  Against my better judgement I hook up my mic and tell him exactly why I put a kick vote on him, for ignoring all treasure, running off ahead etc and I suggest he play solo games if he likes to play that way.  His just goes ballistic and goes on a tirade, his big response to my persistent suggestion that he play solo was that he could not get into the treasure rooms if he did that.  I point out to him that he is just running by all the mage doors as well as other doors and he says why would I stop at the mage doors we have another mage in the party!

He did get another kick vote from one other player, and the player screen every person had a kick vote on them.  I'm sure the other two players were not amused by the long exchange between me and the other guy.  I just felt I couldn't let that one slide, the guy was the epitome of being a selfish prig in my opinion.

I've only run into a handful of AW players that didn't play like complete jackasses. That type are attracted to him for obvious reasons.
