I think this depends on whether you made the Lobby or not. If you are the leader, your rules, your style of play, and in my opinion, fastest clear time + I like to get all doors and pots, even on threatening. Nice when you get people on Threatening that will play along to this, its good for them to get used to doing it as a team and quickly so they can soon pound out perilous runs and reap the rewards. If you join a threatening pug, gauge the speed and confidence, leave a few mobs here and there with 50% health or less if you can prevent one shotting everything, newbs love to feel helpful. But like you said earlier, if their health is diving on regular groups of enemies, get in there and bash away, you can't be mad at someone for helping you survive, and the experience in threatening sure as heck beats routine.
I always consider that some people may be doing the 250 random pug achievement, even if it just caters to my belief that they enjoyed playing with me. But then again, one of the cool things about this game is the ease of creating a new lobby or joining another pug if you don't feel comfortable with how someone is playing. I don't think much ego is involved at threatening, save those that fall short of being considered 'normal' in society. Those special few are in for a lengthy struggle to maintain high self image and will wind up realizing they are not helping themselves by taking a free ride.

Setting emotions aside, I think Slackka is someone you could message to get some clarification on the kick, he is a reasonable person. Perhaps the lobby was 'public' at first to grab people but became more of a private match and they forgot to change format. They usually have a party chat going as well, though sometimes it is set to private so you can't see it. I found out that was why I didn't see their party chat the other day when I hopped into their nightmare game and got pissed off.
Anyways, all I'm saying is sometimes you gotta follow up with someone that makes a 'dick move' just to get a reason, and thereafter they can either wear the crown of dick, or everyone can make amends and move on happily ever after.
I did, He didn't reply. That being said, I still say of you are running a public match and kick people out because you want to hold the space for a mate all the way to FC 4/5 in case they show up is just trollish. If it was a LC or whatever, too bad, That's the luck with a public match, It was a dick move and his lack of balls to answer my messages proves that he knows it. Won't play in his matches any more. However, if he joins a public match I lead I won't red skull him because I don't do dick moves. *double entendre intended

Unless you are in a private lobby being the leader affords no one any special privilege. It just means you were there first, If it did, the leader would be able to kick in a two player match. It just means you got there first. Also, unless you go out of your way to both message and talk to all players about how you want to play, you can't expect everyone to know how you want to play. Rather you or I like it or not, in all DAI-MP matches majority rules. I have seen the leader kicked more times than I can count. The trick is to get a group of like minded mates and agree to play a certain way, preferably in a private match otherwise, anyone risks getting the boot leader or not.

Played a perilous game with Gekrakel and lcneed today. I was trying out a full taunt legionnaire build for the first ever believe it or not. Counterstrike is pretty awesome. The last time I used that ability was when I first started playing. You take serious enemy heat from that after all nearby enemies focus on you. It was actually kind of difficult dealing with so many sundering Qunari spear throwers at once without any defense passives applied yet. However, the round shield that gives you an attack bonus for all nearby enemies is great, maybe even better than the Wintersbreath for damage bonus in a large enemy group. Looking forward to applying the cutting words passive to increase damage against all taunted enemies the next time I play. Even without it, the damage with this build surprisingly good. What other skills does anyone else use for a full taunt build by the way? I'd like to not use walking fortress and I think livid would be nice.

Yes he seems to be a nice person, played with him a lot. It was will not cool at all however and if he is going to be that way I would rather not play with him. I suspect that his mate was LC-ed or something but still, come on dude, its a PUG not a private match. Plus I have to question how nice he is if he didn't reply to my PMs But like I said above, I am not holding a grudge and would never red skull him in a match, but its obviously not a two way street. Bottom line it was a trollish thing to do in a public PUG and him being nice or not doesn't change that.

I'm going to confess to creating a public lobby (because no one is on, or they're in another full match) and then running the match my way. Usually I get on the mic and say what the 'rules' are, just as I respect other's public lobbies. That's the way I was taught the game, back when I started. Sometimes things happen though: dragon gets called, somebody hits or forgets to hit health font, pulling, etc. However, it's hard to figure out what other's want or need (in FC perilous) because of a 'failure to communicate'. When that happens, then I run lobby 'my way' i.e. no dragon, get doors as you go, grab health font. If no one is talking, then I don't know if you need that frost dragon on perilous, if you're wearing gear that requires you to keep low health, whatever. I try to be as courteous as I can but we're all human. And Sophloph, still can't believe you don't have all your HB's!! You know I'd help if I'm on!! Luv ya!
Just keep in mind, just because you are a leader in a PUG doesn't mean you dictate the rules. You just got there first. No one is under any obligation to follow said rules. That being said, it is usually a courtesy that many/most people try to adhere to, including myself, but as no one person can kick anyone on their own, it's purely a courtesy that anyone cooperates at all TBO. It is a testament to how cool most DAIMP players are that anyone does.

True; but I think you misunderstood. I really am agreeing with Soploph. Just saying that it is often hard to figure out what 'team' wants to accomplish if said 'team' in a PUG doesn't communicate. Then I'm going to play the match according to my play style until I figure out what team goal is--aside from the obvious kill kill kill.

I have found that most people will pretty much go with the flow no matter what. There are the occasional speed runners but when you have them you just have to do the TR's during the actual run (as opposed to after everything is dead). I have come across this one speed runner that all he/she does is play Saarebas over and over again on Peri FC and races through not stopping for anything. I mean all day, day after day over and over. He won't revive anyone or stop to do TR's just ignores everything. But he is really good and makes his matches public. So I see a lot of people jumping in just because its easy XP. I have devised a wee strategy that will slow him down to let me get to the TR rooms which I am sure annoys him, but to be fair, he has never used the mic or messaged me so technically I really don't know what his thoughts are about it. He also will really try to get to the end of FC 3/4 asap so no one can ring the gong, which I don't mind but I have seen him just leave the match if someone actually rings it, which seems foolhardy as he is losing all that XP.
What I don't understand is he can solo Peri and not break a sweat so why he keeps his matches public is beyond me. I suspect he sets it to public when he is level one just so he can get help if he needs it and just leaves it there.
So besides TR's and calling the dragon what other issues are there really about PUGs as far as team dynamics go? Reviving I suppose but I have only ever seen the person above totally ignore that. TR's are easily handled if you have people in the party that can open doors and do it before the end of the match, so that is a easy solution. As far as calling the dragon I have seen people get so freaking mad about that but they didn't say anything so how are people to know? And TBO, there are tons of people out there that still need dragons for challenges so that one can be tricky.
I have heard of some players insisting on not killing the boss in FC 5/5 until all the underlings are dead but again, if they don't communicate that with everyone how are people to know? Also, sometime if you are using AOE stuff it can accidentally happen.
So yes Soploph is correct, if anyone in the PUG wants/needs something they should come on mic and say something. But even then, you can run into non-English speakers and all that. Kallen and I kicked a LB person the other night after he kept leaving the area while we were clearing TR's. (We started the match) But I PMed him and he ignored me so I didn't feel bad about it. We did try to communicate and he/she ignored us. Felt bad, I think I have only kicked people maybe five times and most of them were on 5/5 when they went AFK and would not join us at the banner.
Anyway, 99% of the time people are cool and just roll with it, which is why DA fans are so cool.

EXP bonuses that other players bring
As for public matches, noone has a right to dictate anything to anyone.
You join public, you take your chances.
You host public, you take your chances.
Different people want different things and always will. Whatever happens in the match happens, just leave after the run is complete if not happy with others.
Only kick AFK and abusive people in public.
That said, I always play "respect the host" but that's out of courtesy and clearly not a rule for everyone.

At least the lot of us play similar if not in identical fashion, hence silversmurf made the community group for us, and when things get stressful in another lobby somewhere out there, go check it out and find yourself an oh-some lobby! Its a small group, but at least we know each other and can yell at each other right here on this forum!
Kicks are stressful, thats why I'm always prepared with beer as my best friend

Ah yes, and as for the 3 missing Heartbreaker matches, I'm not sweating it. The timing was perfect for the last 2 I did as it was night time and everyone had gone to bed so I could play as long as I could keep my eyes open for. But I'd rather not worry about it until I get an Amulet of Physical Immunity so that I can play different classes. I appreciate the love y'all, you guys rock.
I've been having a lot of fun playing solo routine for that stupid accomplishment while farming poison, weapon kills, and getting a ton of kills towards my next slayer. I think I've done like 12k kills in about a week and half. Perhaps it just feeds my small ego to play in 'god mode.'

However, the round shield that gives you an attack bonus for all nearby enemies is great, maybe even better than the Wintersbreath.
Wintersbreath is overrated and provides a modest damage increase (<20% not 50%). If damage is what interests you, then March of the Everlasting or the Dwarven Proven Shield (more cunning, i.e., crit chance) may be a better choices. Particularly, if you are constructing a taut-based build where you will be (or should be) surrounded by opposition. I use shield wall w/ upgrade, counterstrike, war cry, and payback strike w/ upgrade. Shieldbash is fine too, but damage wise it is identical to PS (excepting guard damage, but that can be overcome via the guard smasher passive -100% guard damage bonus) and SB requires two additional ability points whereas PS is pre-selected. Mandatory passives: flow of battle, balanced combat (learn shield wall), hamstring, and crippling blows. Choose others based on your play-style and stats (within the context of game difficulty).
Play as a taunting, blocking tank and you'll consistently gain the most XP for your team. Kill opportunistically, for now. As your stats increase, Lego becomes the ultimate warrior; a screaming, blocking, killing, xp generating machine.
