At least DAIMP has a mute. I played a LOT of ME3MP (which i love) but you cannot mute players and I've had to listen to a wide range of mild to very annoying things and people try to dictate how others play. I love learning how to improve, tips from friends are welcome, bullying from complete strangers though...
I avoid certain players who just ramble stupid nonsense into their mics.. I'll land in a lobby, see the person(s) and jump out. If that's rude, so be it. I really don't feel like i should HAVE to mute someone as then it's sort of on me for not being friendly. I guess it's the same rudeness on my part either way...
Often I'll get random Friend Requests in DAIMP when i help out in PUG Routine or threatening (and the occasional lobby invite spam) where when i first started playing i kept getting berated and kicked. I know it's a social game, but if i haven't run at least 3 or 4 matches on different occasions I'm probably not going to let the person on my list let alone start a voice chat with... I've a few people from other games, and it's cool to see what they are playing, but they aren't regular partners nor would i voice chat them randomly.
I like helping new players, but I'm not anyone's ****** either. I find that, and understand the reasons, many casual players want to zerg everything without playing the damn RPG. These casuals then cling to those who have put in the time to try to leverage their position. This happens in real life as well. I wont put up with it ('it' being taking credit off someone else's effort, helping out is always a good thing with friends, but being taken advantage of.. entitled to... there is a line) with real life friends so i certainly wont with virtual people (which is what they are until we talk a little one on one, often enough). I want to embrace everyone, but the anonymous thing is a reality barrier and I've been through lots in the past where things/people aren't what/who they claim they are. I'm a skeptical arse...
If you think Scooby Doo is the pinnacle of entertainment on TV, that's great, but i really don't want to hear about it and certainly means I have little in common with you. Better i never heard you in the first place. Now I'm a judgemental arse... If the person used their mic to call out a missed door, or needs help, that's great! I think many feel having a mic gives them a right to orchestrate the game session and that's not so great. I like to hear about people's experiences and what they are exploring. If it's two friends talking amongst themselves, they might be better served with a PS4 party chat room, i often don't mind muting those ones as I'm not in on the conversation or involved in any way.
Unfortunately most of the noise from game mics is: -Deep Breathing-, kids in background, tacky music (usually there to troll, I assume), or explaining the game to everyone in the lobby while being off on 90% of the points, I loved the lady in ME3MP who had the cockatoo chattering in the background.. amusing. but that rarely ever happens.
C'mon, just flip up the mic until you have something to say game related. PLEASE. I do wish certain people had mics plugged in
TL;DR, mute is wonderful, but mic discretion would be better.
