I don't know how many times I would be like, "Mage door, we don't have a mage... oh wait.. I guess I'm a mage now actually"

Oh I would never have done anything like that!

Who's perfect? I am perfect. :P

I will sometimes call people to the door (who can actually open them) and they will stand right by the door running around and trying to figure out what the hell I wanted by calling them over... then you see this pause in their movement when they realise only they can open the door and they get all sheepish after that,

or were they being purposefully teasing a SS for not having a location pointer?  lol.   Really, just because a character doesn't speak doesn't mean they can't yell gutterally (even if hearing someone yell was possible across a castle warzone...).   Kind of silly BW/DAI Devs...    I would accept the addition of players getting zone wide symbols to call for doors of certain class or that the type of door is marked (see symbol through walls) once a person encounters it.

Kallen, I feel you on the meaningless nonsense on the mic, however, I gotta say I've been guilty of at least a couple counts of the items you mentioned.

*I talk....a lot. I enjoy the social environment between players, especially when we're just puttsing around perilous matches and can run without attention span to the actual game. Nightmares I try to focus more on game related jargon as I don't like dying as a result of blabbing and not paying enough attention.

*I just recently learned to use spotify to listen to music whilst playing. It has made my gaming experience awesome possum. Didn't realize the other day my music was reaching the microphone, thought my noise cancellation would take care of that, but have no fear! I found the independent volume control for spotify! Now when I'm playing with friends or people using their mics, I try and balance the volumes so I can hear their chat and listen at the same time. This makes me feel pretty technologically retarded that it has taken me this long to master both an app and game at the same time.

*I offer advice pretty often to new recruits that are learning the ropes, but my first step is to tell them to go to THIS FORUM and read, read, read. Wanna know how a certain game mechanic operates? Read and search and ask here. Most of us I'd say are here to help and post when we're not near our beloved consoles(PC people I don't know if you game and forum at the same time, if so, bless your souls).

*Scooby Doo might be a close 2nd, but who could beat my daughter's bubble guppies!? jk

Anywho, all I wanted to say was if we lobby together and I'm a chatty Cathy, feel free to mute me. I don't take any offense to any of your post, as I'm sure I'm not your target audience, but I don't ever hold up the expectation that people playing with me are 100% listening to the crap that comes out of my mouth. If I say something and don't get an expected response, I assume people are not using their mics, have me muted, or can't hear me, and adapt as necessary.

Sophloph, I probably went off to an extreme on my post, but lots of people are like that.   Never had issue with you in lobby.

I should be specific.. there is a difference between interesting conversation and totally inane, brainless talk for the sake of hearing one's voice.
(now i wonder if I'm posting just to see my own words...) ;p

I totally agree, new players should hit the forums and read, a lot. then ask questions.  It's what I did as there's a lot to learn and it's not included in any tutorial in game or manual (remember those?).  Being told i shouldn't run my Templar in FC because 'bad for dragons'... c'mon dude.. really?   I've had to de-friend people i let in before i saw their colours.  I could see there being limits to classes at HB and maybe NM depending on promotion level (it all really comes down to promotions, and many simply don't get it as they keep reloading as lvl 20, or they did like me and simply wanted to farm some gold early on for chests...  you can't tell motive from action as an ex friend of mine used to say.

Bubble Guppies? Are those the ones used in fish therapy?  the therapy where you put a body part in water and the fish nibble it better? lol  omg   Thats maybe worse than talking in public about your spider veins and showing them off while talking about future medical procedures...

I don't mute people in general, but there truly are some strange ones out there and listening to them hurts my capacity to care.

I'm much the same way. I have a mic but it has so much dust on it its really not even funny. Years of being told to go make someone a sandwich 'cuz girls shouldnt play games or then talking nasty trash on purpose to make me uncomfortable. (It doesnt, ha ha, I've heard much worse from friends). If I happen to answer someone's question and they start trying to chat I quickly tell them I'm not a talker. I'm very self-conscious though, especially joining with folks I dont know and feeling out of place. Speaking up would help but I never quite have the nerve/dont want anyone taking offense if I remain quiet afterward.

I don't talk much on the mic mostly because my wife will think I am talking to her if I do.  Then I have to explain I am talking to the people in game and then I would have reminded her that I am playing game instead of... fixing the house or something. :P

But I enjoy hearing other people talk.. or sing... :P   The only time I have muted someone is when they have the PC speakers on loud and every sound in the game echo back.   Well there are 2 other times.. one was the guy was talking to someone else on the phone and he has the speakerphone on.  I can hear both sides of the private conversion and they seem personal so I muted it.   Another time the guy's mother?  wife? was yelling at him to tell him to get off her internet and stop playing that "damn" game all the time. :P

The groups I generally run with are very chatty (I think we scare some people off, when we open to public to fill an open space  ), and we are prone to burst into song. When I am in PUGS though, I usually keep my mic off, till I come to a situation that needs an answer (i.e. are we getting TR's, is someone close by to res so-and-so - if the group gets separated, should we run the torch or take it slow? etc, etc...). Once I do that, it will sometimes prompt some chit chat. Which is rather nice. Usually.

Generally, we try and make newcomers to the group feel welcome, but they still may choose not to join the convo. Might be due to not having a mic, or not wanting/knowing how to use their mic. Often we set up a text chat to invite people to, since there are some that just don't do "mic". That actually works quite well. Though, I will always answer via mic, since typing and playing is like patting my head and rubbing my stomach at the same time.

(actually, I can do the stomach/head thing, but it seemed an apt analogy in theory. *shrug*)

Those are the kinds of ppl i'm talking about, most are biologically young and don't have the skills to respect other people.  I'm a bit more mature than that and prefer to make real friends and that involves not trash talking (unless I know the person, then it can be fun, in jest :).  In general, pugs and mics could work but often they are a recipe for downgrading the game experience (in my experience).  If you're with friends, it's not so much a pug anymore, right?

As for sandwiches, i like to make my own (then i can put in as much cheese as i like).   It boggles my mind there are people out there who still hold those values, or echo the values put on them from their family.  I will say in my dating experience, if i say I play video games, quite often it becomes an auto-turn-off. Maybe with that they then assume I'm going to expect them to make me a sandwich?   There's a lot of people who still don't understand gender doesn't/shouldn't denote social class roles. In 2016 the information is out there. We know better, some choose to not know better.  Getting stuck in a pug with someone like that.. sucks.

If you're ever in my group and want to say something, you're free to. I'm doing more private runs as it just helps make the experience better (even if my gameplay doesn't ... i'm the under-promoted, under-geared one in most cases..).   All that said, i run without a mic also, as really you can do it all without one.  it's nice sometimes, but i don't always want to be 'on'.

Ah, well definitely on the good list for the cheese approval~

I dont hear that 'insult' as much as I used to but yeah, younger folks who hopefully out grow it or have moved on to Hot Pockets. Thats like a sandwich already made.

And I will, thank you. I can't multi-task at all so no worries about me trying to carry on a convo. Though I can send a novel length message and not bat an eye. (No worries about that either though.)

oh so many pug's lately.

I have been lucky and "working" a bunch from home. Which means I have an hour con call and I only need to talk for 5 minutes [ ALL DAY ].

I like to mic. But I don't always do it, re: wife + kids. I just can't always chat.

I have had some hilarious, some awful and some helpful chats lately. Some are even hilarious and helpful. [ slakka ]

I have played a few games with an unnamed player that at times desserved the mute button, however then I would miss out on some of the high jinx and hilarity. Because most of the time, I find it pretty comical.

Let me recap some of the awesomeness of mic'dom and pug's over the last couple of days

[1] terrible singing / entire match

[2] laughing hysterically when people go down

[3] coming at ya!

[4] pet love / over mic / gross

[5] yelling at newbs - underserved

[6] yelling at newbs - deserved

[7] advice : taken

[8] advice : ignored

I played a couple perilous last night with 2 under promoted Kat's + somebody else.

They died non-stop. Turned on the mic to give advice. Must have been on mute. Barley survived with my Duelist.

Why do people that can barley hang think they can take on bolters?

Played with under-promoted Keeper and Necro in Perilous.

Turned on the mic - they took the advice and we took everything down, working as a team.

Played this AM with a very under promoted Avvar a decent SS and some duelist.

No mic advice taken [excluding the ss that was mic'ed up and helpful ].

Everyone but the ss and me in the full fade from round 2 on.

The 2nd best however was the reaver that proceeded headlong, full tilt, 3 matches in a row right into bolters, dying left and right.  Just spamming "over hear, over hear, over hear" over and over. It's hard to tell if they were on ok player. All reavers rake pretty easy but they certainly need bolter lessons.

The absolute best. Perilous match with one of the "infamous" mic players.

He was level 1 duelist + 1 level 19 lego, + 1 level 13 BOT. I see the line up so I join as a level 7 alchemist.

[[ Of course the SBOT had no barrier and terrible damage. ]]

Oh man. FC level 2 everyone is dead but lvl 1 duelist when I join. OK great. we proceed to clear. I died once [ f'ing shield guys ] but was rez'ed by mine damage.

Zone 3, 2 dead within 3 minutes. No way to revive them since they are solo, so far away. All this with lots of newb comments, yelling at the BOT that they suck so bad, shield should be their only job [ a bit of truth to that ] + singing. We make it, barley.

Next zone you guess it, barley made it out same as 2 and 3, Just me and level 1 Duelist alive.

Zone 5: 2 dead in like 7 seconds. Still we are doing quite well. I am hiding and dropping bombs. Staying around corners freezing mobs that get to close. Duelist goes down right in the middle with like 15 archers around him, he immediately gets all agro. The comments really start getting good. "f'ing newb's, you all deserve to die. die newb die, die newb die... Don't res me man. You don't deserve the victory., etc etc.,"

So I die on purpose. leave match.

I get a bunch of people are just testing the waters in perilous. Some of them stink, have bad attitudes and should not be there. But some of them are great and just figuring the game out, just like we all did. As a community we should just be a little bit cooler. If you are in a position the help some one out or give them advice, you should. It really makes them game better for us all with a good, strong player base.

Hey I'm not saying it's all love and rainbows and that everyone gets along - but we can at least try to be cool to each other.

I will publicly apologize to anyone who drops into mine to find my corpse. I've been testing out the Belt of Storm Pact, trying to figure out a way to use it without my Keeper being slaughtered. Solo'd a few Threatenings with it on a high level so I figured I'd brave a Perilous just for laughs. Did okay till too many red lyrium shadows showed up. The poor person who dropped in right at that time probably thought I was insane.

Anyone have any tips, aside from not using it at all because it's suicide?

Barrier upgrades and Mana Surge. Try to land Barrier on as many people as you can to maximise the cooldown reduction and freeze enemies when it runs out. Clean Burn and Gathering Storm are good for closing the cooldown gap, too. If your barrier is depleting faster than the cooldown and you only landed it on yourself...run away.  :P A well-placed Static Cage helps there.

Thanks! Clean Burn is always a must have for me. I'll see how I've got her set up when I get home. Love the fire one on Elementalist but that one seems to be a bit trickier.

Heh, I guess I am lucky. The only instance I remember was when I joined FC zone 3 and one player said something like...he hopes I´ll be better then last time. I was sort of uncertain if I heard correct, because I didn´t recall playing with him at all and my promotions at that time were solid enough that I didn´t get into troubles very often on perilous.

But that was it. No yelling, no cussing  :D  :wizard:

I said this few times already, but I say it again. I don´t mind people testing waters or whatever. I realize that it´s because I promoted enough that it can cover for other people dying or not doing enough damage. But after the horrible atrocious beginning when we were all dying non stop and no one could help anyone, I enjoy being in position to help others.

Unless people are literally standing still in corner and really leeching or constantly spamming me with F4 when I have all aggro on me and trying to save the game, I won´t be mad. If the lobby seems uncarriable, I rather leave, then give kicks.

Now if only there was enough players left in DAI and I wasn´t caught up in WF pampering my new kavat....

After playing for about six hours I decide to spend all of my hard earned gold and around 14,000 in manage to buy my second Hakkon weapon. I threw my hands up and everything. Go to test it out on a quick Perlious run with my SS only to have a Virtuoso and a Reaver get pounded into the ground by Qunari straight off the bat while the other SS seems to run on ahead. I rez them only to have them take turns dying again. They die again in zone two, and I get taken out by Sarabas mage goo (as i call it) after I kill it. Reaver dies again in zone 3 while either calling for help or trying to get someone to open the chest door. Needless to say we didn't last in zone 5 very long. Almost had the head honcho taken down and all the crit damage had the screen filled with pretty numbers.

I do stand back in awe sometimes in groups that fade and just barely manage to scrape by. It seems like they always open treasure doors, risking more death by guardians. But I guess if they've faded that much already then...yolo?

Some good nightmare games last few days with insane assassin, not sure if they are on these forums.  I've been rotating through Isabela, Pala and Sarah Butts as I need objective levels for those classes.  I should also be including Zither but I just don't like playing that class (hate having the action button being the right fore finger button.)

ha - to tell you the truth I am not sure if I could with a lvl 7 and 3 in the fade. I guess I could have hit mute and tried. I still had rock armor etc.,

Definitely would have been more classy.

That being said I have ran into jerks like this and when I go to text them for what ever reason, ALL their info on their profile is set to private which leads be to believe they are a real troll or have had issues in the past with people calling them out.

Luckily the real bad ones don't seem to stick around long or at least I don't see them again.[/quote]

To be fair, sometimes people have their accounts set to private because multiple people play on it (children, wife/husband for example), not always because people have 'called them out' . Mine is private but not for reasons stated above. Very personal reason. I got super abusive texts and very sexually explicit texts from a DAIMP player. He got reported to Sony and Bioware who did nothing but tell me to set account to private.
I personally know of one DAIMP player who shoots off texts (while keeping mic muted and listening to music) constantly thru out the whole match telling people what to do and where they can stick it; wouldn't it just be easier to get on the mic and politely ask? When match is over he actually 'rates' the player(s) then sends 'em a text. His favorite targets are ppl on LB. Sometimes that is why people keep/choose privacy settings that way.
Just a thought.
