I mostly play gold but do branch out to platinum every now and then, usually when asked by friends. For some reason the origin search function isn't working for me at the moment, but I'll shoot ya a friend request as soon as it fixes itself.

Me and Shady can take you through it. Surprisingly, it's easier than pugging gold if you have the right teammates. Except for those phantoms...

Sounds nice. I was lucky enough to get carried through plat games already and I brought the gethgineer with falcon so at least the phantoms where no real problem 
.
But I'm not nearly fast enough at killing other stuff with that load out.

Ok somebody fill me in, I'm a complete noob to MP's. Don't know what platinum and gold and pugging is. But I would love to learn if someone is willing to take me under their wing. Be gentle! I catch on fast but don't like being yelled or cursed at! I'm well versed in ME but have just never played with someone else. Looking for friends who love to play for fun although I can be competitive. Have been playing RPG's for 30+ years now so I don't mind if my friends have a little age and wear on them. I play on PC, don't know if that makes a difference or not, I figure it does. No mic, don't know if that makes a difference or not. My hours are flexible, can play anytime, but I live in Mountain time. Just looking for fun and a few laughs.

Welcome. Some hints already in your thread. Gold/Platinum are two difficulties in Multiplayer. There are Bronze/Silver/Gold/Plat. You want to start with bronze, if you are new. 
PUG means afaik 'pick up group' which means playing with randoms you don't know.
@Amaeth: saw you online 2,5 hours ago but can't contact you because of lolrigin beta. Anyway, timezones may prevent us from playing more than my single good-morning-game together...
