,
Right. I get that. My point though, is that you're not quite right. I love BG2, for example, but loathe the ever living hell out of IWD. Wasteland 2 would never be worth purchasing, but from the look of it PoE might be (I haven't kept up with how Obsidian will be handling companions and whether it's designed primarily around creating your own party).
Different strokes for different folks. I enjoyed both BG and IWD. Haven't played Wasteland 2 yet but it looks rad.
I actually had not heard of PoE before, so thanks for introducing me to that! Looks like it might be pretty cool. I'm glad to see these old school isometric RPG's making a come back.

Pillars is a great concept. So is the new Torment game (don't know if you're aware of it).
I'm just not a fan of create your own party dungeon crawlers. To me it's just controlling a group of hive mind murder automatons.

Yeah, I've heard there is a new Torment but I haven't looked into it. I never got around to playing the original (on my list!)
I love doing that. I did a playthrough of most of BG1 (with EasyTutu so it used BG2 engine) with a friend via LAN. We each created and controlled half the party. It was a ton of fun.
Definitely a different experience that having all the actual companions in single player, but it was still fun.

If you want light, action game with a good story and some RPG elements - action rpg - try
"Deus Ex: Invisible War"
Great game, and you can get it from gog.com for 8€. Or together with its prequel "Deus Ex " for 10€.
The prequel is somehow boring (never finished it) so you may pass it, but Invisible Wars is briliant
You can play stelathy James Bond, or be as subtle as Rambo - the choive is yours.You can ally with various organizations help them, ****** them off. There are vastly different endings depending on your choice.
Go give it a chance. That's only 8€. And it will give you many hours of playing. I think I finished it about 6-7 times.
Idk what you're talking about. The 1st Deus Ex game is awesome, I had played it till the CD was unreadable. It received over 30 "best of" awards. The 2nd game ( Invisible war) wasn't as good as the 1st game in most fan's eyes. I only played it once and that was it.
The 3rd game is better than the 2nd, but it's not a Bioware's RPG LOL.

If you enjoy strategy RPGs and are looking for something spine-shatteringly difficult, I could recommend Natural Doctrine. I'm not fantastically wonderful at tactics (although I've made it through XCOM:EU a couple times) but I can't even make it past the first room of the first goblin mine without a game over. I'm strongly considering just cutting my losses and running away without clearing the second room... ![]()

*GASP* For shame, sir! While the combat is generally considered the weakest link in PS:T, everything else is executed brilliantly.
Go, buy it now. No no, I insist. Here is a link to get you on your way. I know, I'm terribly helpful like that. ![]()

What I am talking about is:
OP asked for advice. So I gave mine, based on my personal preferences (like everyone else in this thread) not on other people's / recieved awards.
Btw I like "The Phantom Menace" much more than the boring "The Empire Strikes Back".
Preferences, opinions etc. I am sure you know how it goes.

Torment is a very different experience even from BG1-BG2. I appreciate you sharing why you like create your own party games. I never will.

Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines because it´s a great game with an amazing atmosphere but heeell it´s a bug-infested mess. I learned so much about troobleshooting because of this game...
Still, it´s great.
Currently I´m playing Jade Empire.

I know, I know! I'll get to it eventually. I actually do own it. I picked up the D&D anthology collection with BG 1&2, IWD 1&2, ToEE, and Torment several years ago. Haven't got around to the latter two yet!

It was a bug-infested mess. I doubt latest fan patch (version 9.0, which was released in April 2014) leaves all that many bugs.

Now that is an usefull information. Thank you, Lennard. ![]()
It´s a shame they had no money to continue The Masquerade. The fan base of that game is still quite big even after all the years.

SNES good times.
Those Kabal mix ups.
The SNES is the best console of all the times:
* no loading screens
* HUGE game catalog
* Complete games (no DLC, no day release patches, almost bug free)
* Extra-Endurance
* Mode 7
* no extremely big controls
Now that i remind Final fight and Dragon Age has both many similarities:
* Poor console porting of the first one
* LAME SECOND PART
* Redeeming third part: riskly introducing too much stuff while sacrificing some of the things that made the first one a masterpiece

If you preorder it, it comes painted like a shark but the only color option left is purple.
If you preorder it in the UK it comes with the Police armed response team knocking down your frond door and storming your house.

Dragon's Dogma ( I just love to kill beasts&dragons there)
Baldur's Gate Trilogy, Icewind Dale 1&2 and Planescape Torment
Neverwinter Nights 1&2 with expansion packs
Dark Souls &
KoToR 1
Vampire The Masquerade Redemption and Bloodlines
TES serie
Fallout 3 and New Vegas
Mass Effect Trilogy could be nice too
If it don't have to be true RPG then: Legacy Of Kain: Soul Reaver serie, Prince of Persia serie, Tomb Raider, The Last of Us, Tenchu Z, Ninja Gaiden, Saints Row are funny games too,

Should I play while I wait for DAI?
I'm replaying DA:O + DA2 currently with a ton of mods.
Just finished up Divinity: Original Sin, extremely amazing.,, can't recommend highly enough.
If you wan't the best RPG of all time, go for Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines... with the latest updates/mods.
Maybe play some non-RPGs too, Destiny is so much fun with friends (especially the VoG) and Halo/AW are releasing pre-Inquisition.

I didn't like how the ending basically was a bit like getting trolled, but still, awesome game.
