I feel like I have been more disappointed with new releases from the past year or so. The only recent major release that surprised me was shadow of mordor, I didn't expect it to be as good as it was.

 

So I have a fear that since this getting so much hype, it won't even remotely live up to it just like DA2 and many other AAA games.

 

Its just a fear and I grow more fearful as the date gets closer. I feel like I will stay up the night to play only to be met with massive dragon age keep bugs, or slowness, bugs in game, lots of features being missing at launch/not working properly,etc.

Getting super hyped and getting your expectations sky high is never a good idea as I learned from DA2 and ME3 >.< I've definitely reigned in my expectations this time.

DAI is hyped up, a long with many other games from the past year or so. When those games release, since you have such high expectations you are inevitably disappointed because its not everything you wanted it to be.

For Shadow of Mordor, you weren't expecting much from it, so you enjoyed it for what it was.

No I had good expectations from shadow of mordor but it just surprised me that it met those expectations perfectly. I didn't think it was gonna suck or anything, everything they advertised lived up in the game.

 

Many games, they don't even work good at launch, while shadow of mordor ran perfectly. I remember DA2, massive amounts of fps issues at launch for no reason and this kind of thing constantly happens.

People say I should have learned from 2, but I have to say, while it wasn't like Origins, it still held my attention.
And that's all I can ask for in a game. While I'm hype, I'm also trying to go in with neutral expectations.

All I want is a good game like origins, that has good characters (that are based around their personality and not their gender,race,sexuality,etc), good story, and I am ok with a fighting system that is more fluid.

 

If I get that, I won't be disappointed.

It's good to have expectations and to be excited. You should be excited if it's a genre you enjoy and a title you've been waiting for.

The key is to have reasonable expectations and not let your common sense get lost under your excitement. Even if you're super excited, if you see issues that concern you, do what any smart consumer should do and wait for reviews, watch gameplay, talk with friends, etc.

Just temper your excitement with a little reality.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to love it. Just the amount of time and love and effort that everyone in Bioware put to create DA:I is enough for me. Then again, I've been waiting for this game for years so just knowing that I'll have it in my hands in a month means that I managed to survive the long wait.

 

I'm excited. And yes, it's impossible to keep everybody happy. We'll have to wait and see but I'm reeking of positive energy about this whole ordeal.

I am positive I will enjoy the game. It's impossible for me not to be excited about it, although I try my best to keep things under control.

I think the overall story was good with the mage vs templar war however I disliked most of the companion characters besides aveline and varrik, they were either obnoxious or just plain annoying. I didn't like the "spammy" combat, or the enemies falling from nowhere, also environments were repeated and horrible to look at.

 

I know they fixed the environment stuff but I am not sure about the companion situation, I may dislike alot of the companions again who knows. And I know they fixed the "enemies appearing out of nowhere" thing. still not sure if combat is too spammy or not.

Mass Effect 2 broke my heart, Mass Effect 3 was unrepentantly terrible, Dragon Age 2 isn't nearly the apocalypse people make it out to be (but it sure as hell wasn't /good/), and then there's the whole TOR fiasco. I'm only playing Inquisition because my boyfriend is buying it; Bioware has thoroughly burned me.

I was lucky. by the time i reached earth the extended cut was already available.^^ Dragon age 2 wasnt that bad if u don´t take the level-recycleing into account. I may sound like a bioware fanboy but they gave us adventures with characters that are really hard to forget (BECAUSE THEY WERE AWESOME). Personally i enjoid every bioware title i played. Of course there were stronger and sometimes even really weak ones but there has never been something like an aweful piece of ****.

I've stopped caring what other people really think long ago. Had to put that veneer on myself when I became a gaming critic for a few years, because ultimately it doesn't really matter much in the end.

 

Were all hardcore enough to talk about such things on a forum anyway, so if someone is disappointing will hear about it, and chances are some people will hate on it because "**** you to BioWare" is trendy now. 

 

As for me, well see when I play the game. I am honestly more worried about Inquisition story-wise than anything else, because frankly Dragon Age II had one of the better storylines I have seen out of BioWare in years. Something that I feel is more attributed to the lack of "epicness" in the game.

You lucky lucky man, the original ending felt like a good friend stabbing you in the back with a sharp knife.

I was totally fine with the extended cut, but there was still this feeling of bitterness.

 

But I think DAI will be a great game, because Bioware actually listens to their fanbase.

While I too understand the dangers of getting high expectations the bottom line is, (for me) any Bioware game is better than almost any other game I will buy that same year.

This isn't me being a Bioware fanboy. This is just me pointing out that I feel like Bioware's worst game, is usually only bad compared to other Bioware games due to not living up to expectations, and still better than almost every other game I'll play that same year by other developers.

This may just be because I mainly play RPG's and most RPG's that come out now are action RPG's that have already removed everything I like about RPG's in an attempt to make them "modern" or "fresh" and thereby making them feel like every other non RPG game that I decide not to buy.

That may have turned into a rant. Sorry.

Regardless, a bad Dragon Age game will still (for me) be the best game I've played in some time. So no, I'm not scared.

aggree with you in ME3 part... but i would burn nations just to have one valid word in DA2, there is absolutely nothing good there (specially story, it was terrible)

NO. I liked DA 2 was it Origins? No but it was still a good game for what it was, I have played horrible games before and DA 2 doesn't qualify as a horrible game in my opinion. Mass Effect is by a whole different team in general, the DA team is not the ME team which really I'm surprised to learn that many don't know this. Also Mike Laidlaw comes off as way more trustworthy than Casey Hudson ever did.

I have high expectations of lots of things. For me, if I expect to like something, I end up liking it. I have never understood the immediate disappointment with something. Oh, well. Mostly I just stop paying attention to cynical people, it just pisses me off.
