So much for hating the Tevinter Imperium because they are slavers. The circle is a form of slavery too.
Well, the Circle is a golden cage, Tevinter is just a cage, a horrible, horrible cage.

See? This is why we can't have nice things. I bet you are a Templar supporter. It's okay, come out and express yourself, we won't judge you.

If the Circle was a golden cage then no mage would want to be free from it. Once again you fail heretic.

I hate the oppression of free college education. Board. Access to otherworldly powers. And most of all, I hate being protected from the crazy peasants outside. You know, all the things the people supporting me on the internet right now wish they had,
Uh, you go to prison because you're a criminal and a mental institute because you are crazy and a danger to yourself or others. So tell a 5 year-old that shows signs of magic that he's going to a prison/circle because he is born the way he is. How is that not slavery? Your a child mage, let's lock you in a tower and if you do anything wrong we are going to give you a lobotomy. No difference, really.
It's not slavery because it does not share any characteristics with slavery. That's like asking "How is the sun not a whale?"
They are in the Circle because they are a danger to themselves and others. See: Connor.
So am I one of the few who changes their views depending on what character. As I like to roleplay depending on what my character thinks.
My human rogue has a different view of magic then my dalish mage.
I bring you an image that's worth more than a thousand words:

thats brilliantI bring you an image that's worth more than a thousand words:
I'm going to try and ****** off no one with my opinion.
Magic is a thing.
I bring you an image that's worth more than a thousand words:
You know that isn't a good thing considering that without the Templars and Chantry protection you would have the common folk having free reign over Mages, Magic would become a tool of national conquest and war, it wouldn't be an impartial resource rarely employed.
Not to mention without the protection of either interest...you get things like this.
it would've happened anyway why let it. Ah yes, the Witcher. I like the series myself (in fact I plan on naming my Trevelyan mage "Yeneffer"). Anyway, how do the common folk treat Geralt? They think witchers are a necesary evil (I'm sure some people in Thedas would view mages like that too), they treat him like a beast, little more than an animal in most cases, But we do know Geralt is not like that at all. Same goes with mages, if you take away the crazy ones that turn to blood magic you are left with normal people who happen to be mages. That's all. They did not chose to be born mages, hence the question "is magic a gift by the maker or a curse?". They do not deserve to be treated like serial killers and be caged like that. The did not commit any crime.
In fact one could argue if most mages do not turn to violence as a mean to defend themselves.

You really need to ask?
I thought you said you liked the games.
They treat him like a freak.
An occasionally useful freak.

I again state that this will depend on your characters point of view. My human rogue/warrior has a vastly different outlook on magic then my dalish mage. I don't like going with so how do you view magic, because as dragon age is a rpg, I like roleplaying. Playing someone who is different then myself.

unrelated, but how are the books? I am not sure how many are in english, being that they were first in polish. But I am curious how the books are. I have enjoyed the games so far though. ![]()

Geralt shows what true restraint looks like. If he ever cut loose, the people would be slaughtered left and right.

Cool, how good are they though?
better than the games imo.Cool, how good are they though?
I am not sure ever asking this question is a good thing. I am pro mage...I don't like the circle nor do I trust templars or the chantry. That said I do recognize that magic in its most basic form is dangerous and needs to be in a word "policed" just not with the circle. It may have worked when they started it but over the 1000 years it has changed for the worse. There has to be something else that can be done to appease both mages and the "normal man"

Yeah, as monkey said they are stories that are based on polish folklore and follow the story of Geralt. You got four books translated into english: the last wish, blood of elves, time of contempt and baptism of fire. They are easy to read, entertaining and give you a different kind of hero. Well, Geralt is almost like an antihero. But you know about that already, he's a badass.
The circle is a form of slavery too.

"Quarantine" seems like a more apt comparison. Mages have a disease and must be quarantined for the benefit of Thedas.
