Never feed your fish again... WITHOUT KELLY! (and using Gibbed)

I don't know how many people will be interested in this little tidbit of info I have, but I thought I'd share it. I haven't found any other solution to the fish hassle before so maybe some people will find this useful.

I love having fish in ME2, but I think a lot of people share the same hatred I do of having to feed them after ever mission. Sure, you can get Kelly to feed them for you, but you've still gotta remember to feed them while you're buttering her up. Or if you're like me, she makes you really uncomfortable and you avoid talking to her (I swear, with every new thing that comes out of her mouth, I get more weirded out, even after seven plays...). I've looked for mods to feed the damn things for me, but I've been unsuccessful. But then I figured something out on my own.

You'll need the Gibbed ME2 Save Editor if you don't have it already. Load up your save, then go to the plot tab>ME2 plot table tab>Values tab. There, you'll see the state of your fish.

The value is 0 when you've fed your fish, and that number goes up 1 after every mission. If it reaches 3, your fish are dead.

In order to avoid having to feed your fish constantly, change the values for the fish to a large negative number. I use -500 myself. This way, after every mission, the value still goes up 1, but it won't reach the dead "3".

Change your values, save, and away you go!

If you do this, DO NOT FEED YOUR FISH YOURSELF OR THE VALUE WILL RETURN TO 0. If you accidentally feed your fish by mistake, it's not a big deal, though. You'll just have to edit your save again.

If you changed the values of fish you don't have, then buy them, the value will return to 0 again so you'll need to edit the value once more after purchase.

I've played through most of ME2 with this solution and it works just fine. I have not, however, tried this and then got Kelly to feed my fish for me, but I don't imagine it will mess with that if you choose to turn her into your aquarium VI. ;p

I hope this is useful for someone out there. Happy gaming!

This reminds me, did they ever complete the Gibbed Save editor, or are some of the sections still empty (If I recall correctly, tabs like the Henchmen and Research tabs said "not yet implemented" last time I used Gibbed)?

same with 3's Gibbed.

If they have completed it, I don't know where that download is. :P

Powers and appearance under "Player" aren't implemented, nor is the "Henchman" tab. Don't know what the plan was for those tabs, but I get along just fine without them.

ME3's editor is complete, though. No unimplemented tabs in that one.

Thanks for that idea, OP. I stopped buying the fish because I'd inevitably forget to feed them one time. I mean, it took shep at most 15 minutes to retrieve that data from the Estevanico before it fell down the cliffside fer chrissakes. Damn fish can't survive for that long?  <_<

@OP: That's a good idea if you don't want to talk to Kelly.

I don't mind talking with her. But sometimes I'm lazy, and I set the bool variable 3817 to TRUE. This means you had dinner with Kelly. After you load the save you talk to Kelly once, and she will ask about feeding the fish. It should work at any part of the game, might require that you already bought one fish though, or Kelly won't ask about them.

Nope you don't need to have bought any fish.  She will still offer to feed them for you even if the tank is empty.  I stopped buying fish until the dinner date because like so many other I got tired of them dying on me.
