As you are no doubt aware, at the beginning of the game we, the Inquisitor, find ourselves in the Fade, in the distance we see a shining female spirit who gives us the Mark. Who or what is she? After going over the old concept art I notice her more and more.

Same.. I just can't be sure. It's just something I'll play through.

I don't for a minute believe that Andraste actually did "go to the Maker's side" or whatever. Even if she did, why would that make her manifest in the Fade?

If it *is* "Andraste" that we see there, the only explanation I can see is that she was a mage possessed by a spirit, and this is that spirit.

Either way, you've got an incredible power and the Elder One is pissed.

The more I play Origins, the more I think that Andraste was a powerful mage.

First, during the gauntlet, there is one of her disciple named Cathair who describe what it seems to be fire spell (rain of fire that burns crops).

Second, one of Wynne's gifts is a book about the hypothesis that Andraste was a mage

My theory is that it's the spirit that was bonded to Wynne and now it's saving your life.

Sorry but that spirit is bonded with Evangeline, Rhys' girlfriend.

She could die at the start of the game when the blast goes off. A lot of people (including me) speculate she and Rhys will die in the blast too.

I believe it is a spirit of hope. Or possibly a spirit of shapely bosoms.

The spirit might not have been in the fade for long, the Temple does have a lot of very powerful Lyrium veins, a bunch of us talked about this in the Elder One thread, and we came up with Maybe the Lyrium imprinted her essence from the Ashes as well as make them heal wounds, and we do find the spirit right up some stairs on the direct other side of the tear and at the temple the ashes were located up some stairs,

Also you can see the edges of a tear directly behind the Woman in the EoT trailer.

That's all i thought i'd say.

My Inquisitor will believe that it's just a Spirit and people are confusing it with Andraste.

If  am not mistaken the game starts with us being in the temple where Andraste's urn was found. As a result she could be Andraste, maybe after her death/ sacrifice she could have become a powerful force of goodness or she was really a mage. I'd love her to be Wynne but i think that's highly impossible.

The temple is fused with lyrium and there the Veil is quite thin. Another hypothesis is thats its just a spirit and that this temple is a big fraud and the ashes (maybe not even Andraste's) hold such power because they are over-exposed to the lyrium.

Why would a mere spirit (a STUPID spirit btw) be such a threat to the Elder One?

Wynne's spirit did nothing but inspire her to tell children's stories and give lame advice. Spirits are just beings who feed off of abstract ideas. They don't know anything else but vague ideas they get from dreaming mortals.

And now.. suddenly.. this spirit is the hope of the whole world? Come on..

The spirit gives us the Mark, the means by which the Tears are sealed and the Breach calmed. Whomever or whatever this entity is, it is no ally of the Elder One. Maybe the merging of the Fade and Thedas is a threat to the spirits? I don't know.

Because the Elder One is also just another spirit? I doubt there are many spirits powerful enough to mend the Veil, however.

I am kinda getting a Avatar Legend of Korra vibe, the whole Vaatu vs. Raava deal. Order vs Chaos. Light vs Dark. Male vs Female. Anyone else?

I assume that we might not get an actual explanation, since that's how things involving Andraste and the Maker have been in the past.

I'm talking about Wynne's spirit of Faith. I think it was kind of stupid. I also think that's why Wynne never gave useful advice and just churned out platitudes like we were children who've never heard any of it before.

I can see why the Golden Woman might be some kind of spirit, but this Wynne theory sucks.

I don't think its wynne's spirit but nor do I think that it is Andraste. I believe it is a powerful spirit of something postivie such as hope.

That being said, my first inquistor is likely to believe that it is Andraste. She will be either a warrior or an inquistor and thus doesn't know what the fade looks like. So when she is told that it is Andraste she might start to believe it; she is also a rather devoted follower of the chantry anyways.

I'm not sold on Andraste either, but I'll just say I'll be disappointed if turns out to be one of those typical spirits.

They kind of remind of parrots (the bird). They can communicate, but they're not very sophisticated. They just latch on to an ideal and mimic human/mortal concepts they've gathered. They're not anything in themselves.. they're just copying. Poorly.

For something like to be a threat to this "Elder One" doesn't seem plausible to me.
