It's obviously the Archdemon
The Golden Lady. Or Andraste? (Possible Spoilers)

Maybe the spirits of the Fade are worried about the Breach and one of them, who was watching the Inquisitor and his men during his assignment -whatever it was- saw them dying while the Breach was formed. He then decided to merge with the only one barely alive -the Inquisitor- and gave him the power to close the tears on the Veil.
To me, there's no doubt this is a repetition of the Wynne/Anders theme: become posessed by a benevolent spirit who helps you stay alive, even after receiving a fatal wound and using your powers for some greater good.
Extrapolating further, maybe Cole sensed the spirit inside the Inquisitor, a colleague from the Fade and decided to join him for that reason.

I'm depressed, just thinking about it.
Why must they punish me so.. I couldn't stand Wynne and Anders. Now I have to BE Wynne and Anders? ![]()

I'm guessing this glowing lady will help us out in the Fade, pass on some knowledge, and probably never be heard of again. Except maybe the end when she takes away the unique power? Maybe?
I would guess that this would be another instance where the devs can have us believe that it was Andraste or not. Like the Sacred Ashes, you can believe it is real, or something that manifested because of the lyrium, or maybe the lyrium changed in the mountain because of the presence of the Ashes, or who knows?
The glowy lady may be able to be dismissed as just a spirit, an unknown powerful figure in the Fade like the Old Gods (maybe), or possibly Andraste.
I am either hoping for a good reveal, not just "oh, it was just some silly spirit," or the devs leave it a mystery.

I prefer that they leave it a mystery. I don't want to know if it is or is not Andraste, but I want my characters to decide. My first inquistor will likely believe that Andraste saved her, being a devoted human of the Trevelyan family. Where as my dalish elf is likely not going to believe that it is andraste. I want both people to think they are right.

In the character creation twitch stream, our hand flickers before character creation. Then, in the YouTube CC video, we see the player finish character creation, and the inquisitor immediately turns around and looks toward the spirit in the distance. By the time we encounter the spirit, we already have the mark.
My guess is that she's just a spirit of faith that helps us out.

It's really all speculation for now. The prologue took at least 59 minutes judging from the last demo. Character creator might not even be where the story begins.

I forget who originally discovered this, but she doesn't actually give us the mark.

I didnt pay attention to this detail but think that Da2 started the same way. We were with our sibling and our champion armor fighting darkspwans but the real game/ story started after the CC and we were with our whole family running away from the blight. Maybe what you saw was similar to this.

If that's true, it seems a little coincidental that the hand we reach out and touch the spirit with is the hand that gets the mark.

My guess is that it's deliberately meant to be a red herring.
Glowing cracks in the skin that "just appear" after a near-death experience are awfully suspicious. We know of only one thing that manifests as glowing cracks in the skin. We know of only one thing that allows people to survive something that should have killed them.
I expect we'd have far fewer followers if we described a process that sounds very much like becoming an abomination. Much better to say "oh, a glowing Andraste-like spirit touched me and I had the mark."

That spirit looks similar to this elven statue with a narrower hat and no wings... I think it's much more interesting that the spirit seems busy containing some sort of black moving goo when she turn around to help the Inquisitor though. She's not there to get you out of there, she was doing something else and the PC "crashed her party".

Whoa, interesting! I thought that the tall hat was mimicking the hats that chantry mothers wear, but if the elves recognized similar motifs, that broadens my concept of what she could be.
The part about her being busy is also really intriguing. I'm just getting more and more excited for Nov 18, when I can see the full intro sequence.

To me it looks like a tear is behind her, maybe she was opening it so we could get out.

Here's the point in the stream where the glowing hand appears, prior to meeting the spirit. It's easier to see in the video because the green flashes are moving and pulsing.

Wow that would be a twist if the inquisitor is possessed the entire game!!! Kind of like wynne or anders, and the glowing hand is one of the special powers the spirit gives her/him. It would be pretty crazy to be possessed by andraste lol

"Yo, Dude!"
"What?"
"I need you to save Thedas"
"...whaaaa?"
"No But's, My Will Be Done"
"awwweee..."
*Inquisitor is now whipped by a Semi Divine fade influence*
Anyway 2 Hypothesis:
1; I think it's Andraste and the "Maker" was just Andraste's Excuse to cover for herself being a mage/Fade spirit thing like Wynne.
2; it is infact a Spirit, but not one of Hope, or Justice.but infact one of Order.

Very interesting! Do we know what the elven statue is supposed to represent?

Falon'Din, Falon'Din is the elven God of Death and Fortune and guides the dead to the Beyond.

i think that the light. woman in the screenshot may be a spirit (not a deamon). We can agree that sometimes they interact with visitors of the Fade and give them some powers.
But, I like the idea it could be something greater related to Andraste. I want to learn more about her, or at least, I wish we'll get more answers answered about the Maker and Andraste in general in Inquisition!

To be honest, I don't want to get answers as to weather Andraste was a mage or not or what the role of the Maker is. I want that to be left to speculation, because I find it more intresting to focus on the religion of the chantry rather then the figures that they worship. I like the mysteries to remain well mysteries ![]()

When I realised the ashes truly had power to cure Eamon, I thought : nice magic coming from the ashes of an anti-mage prophet. Thinking about it now, there is a big chance that Andraste was a powerful mage that used this power to conquer the world or vanquish a political enemy. Her goal is still uncertain to me (tell me if I missed somthing) but I doubt the Chantrýs version of the story is exact.

She could have been a mage and still completely believed everything she was saying about the Maker, etc. The Maker could simply be a unique, incredibly powerful Fade spirit. Nothing about the story of Andraste would have to be changed for that to be the case, and it would explain some of the things that happened better than the Chantry's official line.

Its interesting that that she (unless theres more than 1) shows up in pre-inquisitor artwork. At most I can believe that this may be the same spirit that helped andraste, maybe even give her special abilities.
Perhaps Andraste was inspired by this spirits appearance which then resulted in the headdress of revered mothers

Perhaps the spirit is what killed all the others that went into the fade. That we touched her with the marked hand is what saved us?
