I just got Shale, used him in a few fights and somehow I find him to be a better tank than Alistair. (Moreover got bored with using Alistair in every quest). I want to make the max use of Shale in fights..can someone please tell me some good tactic settings that I can use for Shale?

As a tank? This should be fine:

Behaviour: Aggressive

Self: Health < 25% - Use health potion: least powerful

Self: Any - Activate Threaten

Self: Surrounded by at least three enemies - Activate Regenerating Burst

Enemy: Attacking party member [Any]: Activate Stone Roar

Enemy: Attacking party member [Any, or name a melee companion]: Activate Taunt

Self: Surrounded at at least three enemies - Activate Bellow

Keep Stoneheart permanently activated - or add it as a tactic (Self:Any - Activate Stoneheart) probs as #2.

I did that from memory, btw, so that might not be EXACTLY how the tactics screen is laid out, but I hope you get the drift anyway.

Just pump Shale's Str to 38 and then Cons exclusively and you'll be golden. Ignore everything else (the odd point into Dex is forgivable is you find Shale missing too much, but definitely don't go overboard. It's not a priority).

Enjoy. Shale is my favourite companion (and makes an awesome tank).

Thanks a lot! Yes, I do intend to use him as a tank. So far, he was just attracting enemy fire, but was not dishing out any damage. But anyway, since I hardly have six tactic slots for Shale right now, I'd use all of them for attracting enemy attention. IS there some way I can make Shale resistant to magic? I'm in the Leliana quest now and the mages seem to take him down easily :(

The armor (large) crystals help to improve various resistances.

Note that Shale is immune to some very dangerous enemy special abilities. She is immune both to Grab (e.g. high dragons) and Overwhelm (many creatures such as werewolves). Thus she makes an excellent tank in locations where you are likely to encounter such enemies.

her - Shale is a she.

This is a spoiler forum - besides, werewolves are the only spoilery thing there.
