That image has all sorts of perspective issues, so ehh. No trust.

I think the confusion comes from the fact that this game uses many more character models than DA:O/2, hence the height differences (or lack thereof) between races.

Sera also looks like she's pretty tall for an elven female.

Does it truly matter? As long dwarves are small and tough, elves are slim (and tall), human medium and qunari tall, for me everything is ok.

Elves aren't tall. They never have been and they aren't now.

Of course it doesn't matter. I'm just curious.

Yes, I preferred shorter elves tbh... somewhere between humans and dwarves.  Definitely not the same height as the average human, regardless of gender.  Tall, lanky elves just look like weak humans IMO.

Yeah I much prefer elves that are smaller than humans. It doesn't have to be much smaller, but I guess maybe have the average height male elves as just slightly below female human. That seems right to me.

And short skinny elves look like prepubescent teens, I'd rather have tall and lanky personally.

Well... to a human, obviously. I'm sure there are elves who think humans are built weirdly. :P

I'd rather have my elves be lanky like Fenris. If he could straighten his back out, he could be taller than Hawke.

I like male elves being taller than female humans, especially if you're romancing them with a female human.

I think this is what I like, too. Male elves either the same height or a bit shorter than female humans.

I think the question just niggles at my brain because I play so many elf PCs and it bothers me that I have no idea how tall they're supposed to be.

Well he seems taller than Cassandra, Solas that is.

Spoiler

I would say Solas and Cassandra are about the same height. She seems to be standing just a tad further back than him (very minor, just a step perhaps) and she is not standing straight either. Notice there's a slight curve to her back.

But the question is: Is Solas typical or atypical for his race?

I imagine, like everything there will be variability amongst the races and our companions will generally be the ones to embody that. As far as my headcanon is concerned, male elves are generally slightly shorter than female humans.

That sounds fine, but if the male Inquisitor is one of the atypical giants of his race, then head canon won't do me a whole lot of good.  Too bad we don't have any control over our physical features like in Dragon's Dogma...  that game featured a robust body customization system and long hairstyles, and the only clipping that I noticed was in the capes and a certain type of tower shield when the PC ran.   Oh well.  Maybe by the time DA4 rolls around, we'll at least be able to select from 3 variations of each race/gender combination (short, average, tall).  Although that might require too much additional work for them to consider implementing...

But wasn't that true on DA:O ?

Yes, and that's why it continues to be my headcanon, but since then, elves have noticeably grown. Fenris was taller than Isabela was he not? Solas is about the same height, if not possibly taller than Cassandra. We're all a little confused as to where they currently stand in regards to height in canon right now.
