Oh, I wasn't aware of that. I always associated Xeons with server CPUs. Sounds like an interesting option, but you guys say I can't overclock it though?
You can OC it. But you've got to get tricky as it has a locked multiplier, meaning you'd have to modify the base clock instead.
But really, if we're talking modern games that come with halfway decent multithreaded support, you'd have to OC an i5 quite the bit to meet the E3 1231v3 in overall performance, though a higher clocked i5 will handily beat the E3 for every application that can only run up to four simultanous threads.
If you want hyperthreading AND higher core performance, you'll have to go for a full fledged i7, preferably a K model. If you don't OC, the E3 is the most "futureproof" choice.
