I never remember the extra spec's In DA:A they had so little impact on me. i would literally pick them by the one that seemed the coolest because i already spec into a good system for me.

From what we have seen so far, Knight Enchanter is a normal mage who can use Spirit Blade (a short range melee attack that does spirit damage and penetrates barrier/Guard), Fade Cloak (phasing, with an upgrade that deals damage if you re-materialize inside an enemy), and Resurgence (full revive, full heal, and regeneration Focus power).
The Spirit Blade can be upgrade to deflect projectiles, and there is a passive that causes Barrier to reflect 20% of damage back at enemies. There are also a few passives and 1 active that we don't know anything about.

DAO:A's Battle Mage is a better equivalent to Knight Enchanter than Arcane Warrior. A KE isn't a tank it's a mage that uses close range magic to fight enemies and protect allies.

Battlemage's description and purpose does look very similar to the Knight Enchanter (what I'm guessing you meant) specialization we're getting now, yes. Looks like it's more fun this time, though. They have also compared it to Arcane warrior, but to me it looks closer to the battlemage specialization since it was battlemage that actually had abilities that could be useful at close range.

Well, it's also a pretty good fit for AW because it allows you to get into the nitty gritty of a fight with a magical blade! Who knew clean magic was so cool?
