And he got it, did he not? It does not matter if it was actually Dumat or Flemet / Fen'Harel posing as Dumat that made him seek the black city. He wanted the power of the gods and immortality. This he was told.

"the taint provides quick healing from wounds which also explains the absence of healing skills among the darkspawn.[5] This healing even allows the re-creation of lost body parts after some time.[6]"

Take a look at corypheus. His left side of the face, red eye, signaling the power of a blood mage? This part of his face is mostly normal. Then look at the other part of his face. Dark eye. Who else has black/gray/dark eyes? Darkspawn. Corypheus wanted the powers of the gods, he just did not realize the one manipulating or aiding him was abit... ambiguous in their meaning :P

Lets stop one second to quote Avernus, for people that misunderstand demons and darkspawn for being the same thing:

  • "Blood magic comes from demons; they could counter every bit of lore I possess. But the darkspawn taint, that is alien to them. And it has power."

And to look at something else of importance (Avernus talking about the taint and blood magic in unison):

His research notes theorize the extensive capabilities it holds, and claim that only within the ranks of the Grey Wardens can blood magic be used freely and allowed to flourish in the name of arcane progress. What he learned allowed him to use blood magic to unnaturally prolong his life for hundreds of years

What is one of the central powers in blood magic? Mind control.
What does the taint do other that to give regenerative powers? Allow spellcasting without Lyrium. It is stated that the taint is magical in its nature and can be used as a substitute for lyrium.

(Another side-question could be does this mean that the taint enhances blood magic or allow spellcasting without using actual blood? This I do not know)

So this settles what I think "The power of the gods" meant. As illustrated with the pictures above, the taint is the power that was in the black city. Corypheus is now a sentinent and highly intelligent darkspawn blood mage.

Corypheus wanted the power of the gods, who would come with such a promise? Someone who thinks himself a God. What attribute does one connect to one who thinks himself a God but isnt?:

                                                  ARROGANCE

And what one word did the devs attribute to the Elder God? Arrogance.

(This is why I think Corypheus is the penultimate boss and is not the elder one btw)

Thanks! I know its probably not that much new info here, just wanted to share my train of thought. I believe I did come up with something new though. Specifically the facts that:

* Corypheus probably did get what he was promised even if the promise was not from Dumat OR what he expected.

* If it wasn't Dumat, we never actually found out if the voice told Cory he was Dumat or if Cory assumed it was the voice of Dumat.
* What more power could you wish for than being a sentinent blood mage infused with the benefits of the taint, if Avernus is right and the taint has huge power benefits. As if regeneration, restoring lost limbs or provide bodies to possess wasn't enough - it seemingly grants even more powers.
* The Elder one is according to the devs - Arrogance incarnate. What higher arrogance than to believe yourself a God and offer the powers of Gods.

So at this point, I am willing to bet my left kidney and right eye that Corypheus is not the elder one as some have speculated. That the Taint IS the power that the Elder One promised him regardless of actually being Dumat or not.

Mind if I collect on those?

Good points. This makes me think that Gray Warden Blood Mages might be safe from demonic possession ever because of their taint. Thus why becoming a Blood Mage in DA:O seems riskless.

If I say why, it might get the thread locked. So you ask at your own risk.

Actual major spoiler incoming.

Could you remove that spoiler entirely? Dont want the thread locked even if its true. Also, how can artwork reveal such a major spoiler? Are you sure you dont misinterpret the info given by it? If text in the artwork doesent explicitly say so then there really is no evidence. And artwork in pictures only can be misinterpreted easily.
