Ok, before I launch into what I was going to say, let me clear the air:

  1. This is not a post about EA being horrible or Bioware "selling out".
  2. I am not lamenting about any of the past Bioware games or harkening back to the "good ol' days" of Baldur's Gate.
  3. This isn't a troll thread predicting that DAI will be a critical and/or commercial failure.

With that out of the way...

At some point, I decided to not follow every bit of information on the game.  I'm afraid that the info saturation will take away from my experience because I'll go in knowing too much. Am I the only one who's going on a voluntary "media blackout" and not reading or watching anything about this game?

I myself always look for the most information on any game, just to know what I'm getting into. Personally, I'd really like to know more about Inquisition story (More Spoilers Pls!!). With that being said, I don't feel like knowing much about a game will spoil my experience because I know I'll do many things different then the person I'm watching. Especially a game like inquisition. There's many choices one must make, and watching one person make a decision will be totally different in how I do it myself. So no, no media black out for me. The more I know the better.

And yes. I never entered the hype train in fact as I'm enforcing a selective information blackout to keep spoilers to a minimum.

I was fully on the hype train until the qunari hairstyles were shown. I'm still on it, but it's slightly tempered. Hopefully that'll work in my favour once the game is released.

More like, mini media black outs. I'll go for a few days to a week without, then look up news about it. Don't watch the twitch streams.

I am still hyped about the game and I still watch things I am just more thoughtful now about what I watch rather then devouring every single video. Some things I want for myself. Beginning of game, first seeing Skyhold and exploring it, etc. There are things I don't mind watching regardless, like multiplayer or class features. So for me it is more about just being selective now.

I am hoping when early release hits in November I won't see titles of threads ruining story so I may leave then.

I avoided the hype train before it even started, and always do.

In fact, DA:I is the first game BioWare has released since I joined BSN. The last couple of months have been very bizarre and strange, to me. I don't even want to know who the companions are before I play the game, let alone any spoilers about the story or potential romances. I would actually have preferred to figure who could or couldn't be romanced organically, rather than having the details essentially foisted upon me, whether I wanted to know, or not (it occurs to me that the single worst source of spoilers for DA:I has actually been BioWare, itself.)

The closer we get to release, the more I am retreating from the forums (at least the portions of it that tend to contain information about DA:I.)

I ended up in the Keep Beta, but I feel kind of bad that I decided not to playtest it, because I want to avoid Dragon Age information of any kind before the game comes out.

And when it comes to hype, in general, it's nearly impossible to influence my desires. It can happen, in small  ways, but for the most part, no company's hype or advertising has ever convinced me to purchase a product. On occasion, EA's marketing campaigns have even convinced me to ignore a product they released, like Dante's Inferno, or Dead Space 2. Advertising to me like I'm a 12-year old miscreant whose purpose in life is to rebel against my parents/establishment is only going to convince me that that's the intended audience for the game.

I generally assume that I am very much the exception, in this regard, but I have noticed that there are others who appear to be similar about hype/advertising.

I never followed every last bit of information so I suppose I was never really on the hype train. I know very little about the companions that aren't returning, and don't actually even know all of their names.

I'm still interested in the game and will get it, but I want to see most of that stuff in-game.

i look at the info.. but at the same time realize this is bioware.. they are going to hype the game.  its just the way it is.. just take the info for what it is and move on.. and

dont fall into the trap of "OMG BIOWARE.  THIS GAMEZ GOIN TO BE AWSUMZ!"  if you do, you'll be sorely disappointed.

Same here. Limited Qunari hair + no healing + limited abilities definitely took the wind out of my sails but I think that will wind up being for the best.

Thats what im doing, i was on the hype train for more than a year but i decided to get off before i ruined my initial experience. We know too much in my opinion or at least what seems like it, hopefully the devs are confident that they're not showing too spoilerish content but from past experience i doubt it, so yea ill be keeping my head down looking at gameplay mechanic info rather than watching somoene play a level that is now ruined in its initial sense of being unknown

Why are you on the forums if you're on a media balckout?

I have struggled to not get hyped about the game.  Not because anything in particular I've heard about it has been bad, but simply because (being a bit negative here) I've been burned pretty badly by hype for previous games.  One particular previous game, if you catch my drift.

So rather than go on media blackouts, or whatever, I want more information.  More details.   More spoilers, because I want to be certain this time that it would be a purchase  I won't regret.

I'm expecting average Bioware product. I don't suppose that actually puts me on the train.

Mostly I stay away from threads that are getting into specifics unless they're about mechanics.

I agree. Too much information can no longer work for me. When I start doing too much investigation and end up with the end product, I pretty much tire myself out of whatever it is. I no longer look up gaming news like I used to because of this. I just want to know when what I want comes out and just experience it on my own without additional information.

However, I don't care about spoilers like I used to. When I was younger people spoiling games for me would stop me from playing the game all together because I already knew what was going to happen. Now if I get in spoiler territory I just don't care. It's really not a big deal.
