I think my station is coming up and i plan to get off. At this point I'm clinging on to the back of the hype train and it's going to give me a nasty rash.

I did not watch the entire skyhold video, skipped over the character stuff. I think I will avoid the companion video as well. Some games it's easy for me to avoid getting on the hype train, DA3 it's hard to get off.

Yup, same here.

No reason to learn things about characters and locations now when I know I will be pouring hours and hours into them all winter.

I'm off the hype train.
I'm looking forward to the game. The inquisitors edition has been pre-ordered.
probably won't watch the sky hold video. An MP video I'd watch to see what's what there.
just the waiting game now. Can't stay hyped forever.

I might be on the train, but I'm sitting down reading a paper and enjoying some tea.  I'm being pretty careful to avoid major plot spoilers and I've mostly stopped watching the twitch streams, but I still want to know bunches about the followers.  There was a point a few weeks ago that the crazy obsession bubble burst.  I'm still extremely excited, but I couldn't quite maintain that level of squee.

Getting off the hype train and not scrutinising every morsel about the game that is put out before the release is not the same thing.

He actually said:

I decided to not follow every bit of information on the game.  I'm afraid that the info saturation will take away from my experience because I'll go in knowing too much. Am I the only one who's going on a voluntary "media blackout" and not reading or watching anything about this game?

Which I took to mean that he was avoiding all information, as he clarifies in the next two sentences.

I am also not sure why you need a disclaimer ".... with that out of the way".  Cannot your post speak for itself?  What air is there to clear?    You are the originator of your own thread....

I believe the disclaimer was to address the people who would read the title and assume that this was one of the many threads complaining about aspects of the game that have been disclosed. He is actually referring to avoiding information, as opposed to being upset at the information that has already come out. Given the colourful nature of BSN's response to developer announcements regarding DA:I, I think his pre-emptive clarification was probably warranted.

Trains are sooooo yesterday. Old technology. You have to move with time. You have to embrace the future. You have to climb new heights ... you have to use the "hype plane" to the stratosphere ... :P ... ok ok .. j/k ;)

If I come across a game that has been out a while and I want to decide if I should buy it or not I normally watch an hour or two of Let's Play so I can see what the games like. So I have no problem with spoiler in games and want as much information as possible before I spend my hard earned cash. I don't want to see the ending or know large spoilers like what main character dies but what we have seen so far is an acceptable level of spoiler as far as I'm concerned.

I stepped on the train only recently, but I'm fairly relaxed about it. Just doing my own thing, chatting with some fellow travelers here and there, looking out the window if someone points out something interesting. I'm excited, but not impatient for the train to reach its destination. It'll get there when it gets there, and then I'll get off and check out where we've actually ended up. If I like it I'll stick around for a while, if not then I get on the next train out of there.

I jumped off the hype train ever since they announced no warden for Inquisition. Ever since then I saw an lot of development choices that made me question the game's quality. I will still buy it and I will still play it. But as for now, this game lost a lot of my original interest. Inquisition might look like an high quality production, but so did Watch dogs, Destiny or Hitman Absolution.

No, as for the hype itself, I don't believe that the game will be as good as it is made out to be, but I still expect it to be (much) better than Dragon Age II.

Yeah just this week I've decided to enforce a personal embargo on DAI info. I want to experience pieces like Skyhold for the first time in game rather than through a twitch stream.

Yeah, that happened to me. More they release information the less I'm hyped. The stream yesterday was really bad, so much worrying stuff and the devs themselves looked really tired and not very proud of their game.

I was really into it until about July. Then you had the Combat FAQ, confirming that everything I'd hated about DA2 made it back in. Then Multiplayer in August (thanks awfully), and everything since..not exactly promising.

I still want it, and I did even enjoy DA2 for what it was - though it's nowhere close to Origins.

I stopped riding on hype trains for awhile now.   The destinations are always disappointing.    I still like watching them go by though.   Sometimes I catch a glimpse at one of the wide-eyed passengers through the window and think, "That used to be me, until I learned my lesson."

Dragon Age has place in my heart forever, but at the same time I question some of the design choices and direction the series is headed in regards to gameplay mechanics.    I hope I am wrong and all my concern is for naught, but its definitely enough for me to keep from buying a ticket on that train.

Ok, before I launch into what I was going to say, let me clear the air:

  • This is not a post about EA being horrible or Bioware "selling out".
  • I am not lamenting about any of the past Bioware games or harkening back to the "good ol' days" of Baldur's Gate.
  • This isn't a troll thread predicting that DAI will be a critical and/or commercial failure.

*swipes forehead in relief. Too many of those around.

Anywho I applaud you for the media blackout. I'm way too weak minded and need my fix of anything that can keep the hype going really. I'm rather used to Bioware's storytelling formula and character archetypes that I'm really not surprised, but to me it's not WHAT it is but rather HOW its presented and if it makes for an overall enjoyable experience.

I find they've actually dodged much of the spoilers for the most part. You have a few obvious Biotropes that shouldn't surprise you (Cass being the typical dark haired, tough girl/hidden softie leading human lady, Cullen the conventionally attractive human male made for fangirls in mind) while they've avoided really getting into detail on the bulk of the party members (Blackwall in particular, but also Solas among others).

Yeah, I'm skipping anything that shows story beats (outside of trailers, of course).  Also avoiding Twitch streams.

Don't get me wrong: I'm not lamenting that this information is out there.  I just look back on the games where I knew too much going in and thought, "I would have really liked to have discovered that for myself".

I feel like DAI is one of those games that's big enough that I don't care. They'd have a really hard time spoiling anything meaningful for me, and I'm generally not affected by spoilers. I know who the characters are, that's fine, I knew about the DA2 characters and it didn't affect me. I knew about ME characters and it didn't affect me. I also know they won't spoil anything huge, they're even holding back all the mounts that aren't the heart. These little teasers are just ways to kill time.
