There is also the whole Warden issue. Anders is a Warden Mage. Politics in Thedas being what they are, anti Warden factions will use Anders decision against the Wardens.  Killing Anders even if I liked him is an act of Pity, which he himself asked for.  Assuming you did not kill him in DA2, then he needs to be judged for his actions, does Hawk send him to the Chantry for judgement or to the Warden Commander?   Killing Anders preemptively stops those 2 factions from freaking out on you.  Allowing you to have both as possible allies.

Anders was one of my Hawke's best friends. Regardless, he saved my brothers life; I owed him a debt. A life for a life.

This sounds a bit hypocritical considering the fact that Hawke's body count is at least in the high hundreds.

I only kill people who are currently trying to kill me.

Good to hear.  However, the poster I quoted said that they didn't consider death to be a punishment.  Even though Hawke killed a lot of people in the game, oftentimes going well out of their way to hunt down and kill criminals for one reason or another... Bounty hunting is a bit different from self-defense, or do you disagree?

Maybe I should have asked Blood Kaiden if they killed Kelder...  Did you?  I'm assuming you let him live since he wasn't hostile...

I made an exception for Kelder, as he begged for death.

I'd also far prefer to arrest criminals than kill them, but everyone always fights to the death.

Again, he wanted to die. That was the only reason I made it.

Rationalize it however you want, I think I've made my point here.

I don't think you have. Hell, I let Danzig live.

Apparently killing hundreds of innocent Kirkwallers and the majority of the Kirkwall Circle to send a message and attempt to spark a war = "may have gone a little overboard" now.

Anders is, by definition, a warmongering terrorist.

Perhaps killing thousands of mages out of fear, because of a religion is better for you?

Not surprising since Danzig was a mage.

You do know I don't actually make decisions based on that metric, right?

You seem to, but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and say that I could be mistaken.

That's a really simple analysis of the problem there. He did not just woke up one day thinking "Hm, what a beautiful day. I'm gonna blow up the Chantry with the Grand Cleric inside".

You forgot about the other innocent and clerics. Btw i would love more Anders if Sebastian was inside and got killed. I still cant forget his face and cry it was just hilarious. Oh if Anders has a chance to comeback at the Dai i will definitely see he, he always lived.

Yeah, I'm also super interested in how this turns out. Anders was after all my favorite companion in DA2. Sure hope he at least gets a few mentions, and if they give him a minute of a screen time, I can play throught the rest of Inquisition happily.

i couldn't find a better video. Anders for they way!!!! Thanks for destroying the chantry (sorry Elthina i really liked you), it was collateral damage for the creation of DaI, a sacrifice that will be honored and praised.  Not to be bad, but Elthina had it coming, she didn't try hard to avoid this conflict

My problem with Anders is he made a choice that put mages in an even worse light. You don't remove fear of mages by killing a huge amount of people as a mage. That said, his rivalmance and friendmance revelations made things interesting for me:

  • If Anders is Hawke's rival, he says that Vengeance took him over and expresses deep regret for his actions. He does not trust himself to control Vengeance any longer and begs Hawke to kill him "before there is nothing left of me". Hawke can tell Anders that they forgive him if the amount of rivalry is high enough.
  •
  • If Anders is Hawke's friend, he insists that the decision was his own as he and Justice are one now. He tells Hawke that he wanted to make Thedas see the injustice of the Circle and thus to change the world. Anders still wishes to be killed, seeing it as bringing justice to those who were sacrificed for his cause. If the amount of friendship is high enough, Hawke can tell Anders that they might have understood if he'd only told them.

Was it truly Anders or Justice/Vengeance that did this? Because it simply wasn't a very clever move to blow up a Chantry. I never truly felt it was Anders I was talking to in DA2, because he was so drastically different from DA:A.

I truly hope that if Anders does come back and play a pivotal role, we can help get Justice/Vengeance out of Anders or at least try to figure out if Anders is still really himself. I'd like to tell the world that no, it's not the mages who are dangerous, but our lack of knowledge and fear of anything supernatural. If we could research the fade and their inhabitants more instead of locking it away, if we had known more about these spirits, maybe Anders would have never let Justice inhabit him.

Justice's voice actor recorded for DA:I. And there is a high chance it was not a minor NPC because he strictly and solely voiced Justice in both Awakening and DA2. We don't know about Anders' voice actor yet. He said he is recording for DA:I but guess what? It was April fools day...

My Hawkes always let him live, I just can't kill a friend/lover who hasn't actively attacked, me no matter how betrayed I feel. While I don't believe in a magocracy, I don't believe in only non-mages rule either. Both systems are wrong and victimise the other group.

In my opinion, Anders was right about everything and I just felt betrayed because he didn't let me help him. I really hope I can meet him in Inquisition and see him get closure with or without Hawke.
