The MP character cannot be Anders. Bioware confirmed that if Anders is killed in DA2, he is dead. So that man is someone different.

To be honest, I'm kind of conflicted with Anders. Going through DAO, DA2, and then watching Dawn of the Seeker, my opinions of the chantry really have gone all over the place. In DAO, not too many of the templars were rude, or ass-like. In DotS there was a bunch of chantry positivity (as well as parts of DAO). However, in DA2, there was a huge population of mages that believed that the chantry and the circle were huge, negative, and abusive institutions. In Kirkwall, most of the templars were transparent in their mistrust and borderline disgust with mages (probably because of the prevelence of blood magic). I don't know, I definitely think that the chantry should be reformed, so it's not systematically punishing mages, but I don't think it should have been blown up. I guess it's hard because Anders does have grains of truth to what he says and believes in.

Yet, when you choose to help, it is under the impression that you were going to separate Justice from him. And then he proceeds to attempt to blackmail you if you tried to question him about it. So...yeah, being nice to him at that point is when he uses your friendship to further your goals. True friends don't do that.
(goes back to lurking)
I agree, Anders is a user. The only way to keep yourself from getting used by him is to not befriend him, not romance him, and ignore all his quests. smh. I just finished a play though where I kept Anders alive (accidentally, as I used the party cheat and didn't think it would bring him back to life lol) and saved the mages. Talking to him in the gallows was disgusting. He was happy and showed zero remorse and like a true narcissistic personality type he thinks that Hawke keeping him alive makes him/her the perfect rebel Mage leader. ![]()

Never kept him alive, but damn that only makes me feel even more sure of my choice. Reading this is borderline disturbing.

The only time I've kept Anders alive was when I had him at full rivalry, and I had him help me Annul the Gallows.

Thank the maker that he won't be resurrected like Leliana. Last thing Thedas needs is a zombie terrorist.

Well, technically it's possible he might be back as Zombie Vengeance. Anders might be dead, but there is still a Spirit-turned-Demon in his body, after all.

I didn't get the impression of remorselessness at all, more someone who'd gotten whacked around by horrible things a lot and now has some kind of hope. He's in recovery.
I also look forward to when I can talk about what the Keep has done with Anders.

Anders: "I've clearly underestimated you. I thought that when put to the test you would kill me. You are truly the leader we've waited centuries for."
Doesn't sound like a person in recovery or feeling remorse or shame. Sounds more like the bombing of the Chantry was a test for Hawke more than anything. Which makes him all the more manipulative. It had the mentality of "You let me live, you pass."

Justice is no zombie and neither is the Justice who inhabited Anders dead, that's what she mean't by "Zombie Anders".

Well, that would come when he says "This is worse than I imagined" after The Last Straw starts.
Anders isn't guileless, but I don't think he's very good at lying, or at subtle manipulation; he's much too open-hearted and zealous for it. He can use brute-force emotional blackmail, but I seriously don't think that he has the inclination or ability to lead Hawke on to that extent.

Yeah Anders felt some remorse for what happened, but he felt it needed to be done.
