I suppose Varric will have a lot of things to say about "Blondie".

You are way more optimistic or forgiving of the ME3 team than I am if you accept that as the reason. But I digress.
It fulfills the stipulation of being easily replaced by NAnders, doesn't require his VA to return, and conclusively wraps up the plot line of him being taken over by Vengeance.
Choosing to kill or spare Anders is potentially the most important decision in the game. Saving a few more circle mages doesn't change much while sparing the person behind the chantry incident does.
And beside Varric he is the only companion from DA2 with direct relation to events of Inquisition, rest of the companions are irrelevant and will only exist to make fans happy if they appear at all.
Also people need to spare and friend Anders once in a while, Anders shows a lot of promise and is definitely not taken over by Vengeance, not even close. This needs to be acknowledged if he appears.

Well, to be fair, that was what many people thought about sparing or destroying the Collector base in ME2... and look what that led to.

I enjoyed Varric's concern about Anders and Hawke. Gives me the feeling Varric knows that Anders used to be a nice guy before merging with Justice and that the future won't be pretty for both of them, especially to Anders.

No. For me Anders is dead either way.
If Hawke truly hates Anders, then Anders will be killed.
If Hawke truly respects Anders cause then Anders will be turned into a martyr.
Why keep him alive?

My problem is I like Anders when he's himself - but I can't stand the 'Justice' part of him, so although I'd like to see him in the 3rd game, I'd not be too broken up if he wasn't in it.
Really, I'd like to see Zevran again! ![]()

Female Mage Hawke, and Anders. Master mage race of the future is why..
Would be one reason.
And sometimes a friend doesn't let someone take the easy way out, and becoming a Martyr in this case is the easy way out, you start a change man up and finish it;

I can't wait to see my old buddy Anders again in Inquisition. Everyone blames Anders for Kirkwall but that wasn't his fault! If Anders didn't blow up the cathedral then Grand Cleric Elthina would have probably just keeled over from a heart attack a few weeks later and Meredith would have just found another excuse to use the rite of annulment.
Blasting bad guys with fireballs, snatching lyrium from templars, and using blood magic to make Gabe work on Half Life 3. Mage bros forever!
Okay. You're a troll, but I have to admit I honestly laughed reading this.+1
I have no clue if you actually like Anders, or you just made this topic because it's easily one of the best things to talk about if you want to sit back and watch people flame eachother, but *highfives*. For freedom!

Anders handled his actions POOORLY he's a no good extreme terrorist that throw's lightning bolts at fools. he could have handled the situation better, and he is in the wrong for what he did. how many dozens if not hundreds of people did he kill blowing up the cathedral? dudes a mass murderer and needed at most a slap in the face, and a kick in the balls. i get where he was coming from but... honestly.. Poor form anders.. poor form.

I am aware of this but it was the most important decision nonetheless and whether it will get collector base treatment or no remains to be seen.

Indeed, Varric was maybe the only one who tried (more or less) to hold the group together in DA2 and he might be the only one the Inquisition met (aside from Hawke & co) who knows the "whole story".
Maybe if you killed Anders, he will be whorshipped as some kind of martyr by some mages.
If you let him live you will find even more of his manifestos.
In either case you can't really escape him ![]()

DO you remember Anders' unique tree in the game? He thrives and gains bonuses when he inflicts self harm in Vengeance mode.

I laughed. You are such an irresponsible hater.
Your argument has no merit because its very obvious that while it can be ignored as Bioware has done in ME, its the most important event that can have direct effect in Inquisition if followed up.

I don't buy into game mechanics being taken literally. An arrow through the chest is still an arrow through the chest...

Its an artist's imagination. He is dying but he is enjoying it? He died with a smile if you killed him in DA2.

He died smilling because Justice was served, one way or another, not because he was into being hurt like some sort of machocist, plus his death was instant so a change of expression from whatever sort of happiness he was experiencing to a "gut wrenching" pain was not possible. I'm in disagreement with this artists "vision".

It fits his Vengeance theme, the blood of my enemy is honey, the pain of my enemy is my painkiller and death means nothing if Vengeance (or Justice) has been served.

I'm irresponsible? Do tell. I'm looking forward to a list of my irresponsible acts.
Anders stopped being relevant the moment we had the opportunity to kill him. Then Fiona took center stage as the driving force of Mage seperatists, And we found out that he is considered an insane radical by both sides. He's not considered a martyr or a hero, just an idiot.
That, and his voice actor talking about not being in DA:I kills any argument about his importance.
