My suspicion is that both Lady and Lord Inquisitors are going to be wearing the same thing to the ball as well as at Skyhold.  When the devs put the kabosh on the ball gown idea, they probably went to work making sure that one outfit for both genders and all races was applied and animated correctly.

So prepare yourself for MotA outfit 2.0, since I almost guarantee the female outfit will be the male one fitted on the female models.

Er, that's what I just said.  At least I thought so.  Didn't sleep well and only on my first cup of coffee.  The style itself is light years ahead of that atrocity, so that works.  My main problem wasn't so much the suit on a female Hawke in MotA, it was the color scheme.

Ah I really hope not that would be very annoying. If that is the case hopefully we'll at least get better colors.

I can't speak for femHawke, but male Hawke looked fabulous in mauve.

I hated the colors.  The outfit style wasn't great, but it isn't so bad with the right colors.  This is an example of my male Hawke in a modded version of the same outfit:

Do we though?  We've seen NPC's dancing in dresses and formal wear in that one trailer months ago.  If I have to show up looking all drab while NPCs are all high fashion.....no I can't even think about it right now.

That screenshot of people dancing, the one in red was most likely the Inquisitor

It's easier to animate an NPC in a dress than the PC

Yep, this.  With an NPC, you don't have to worry that it fits on all races correctly.  What's more is that NPC in the background probably isn't going to move, or not move much, therefore eliminating any need for good animation.  It seems easier for do a design for a static model versus a moving one.

Being an AAA company is irrelevant when you factor in there working with a new engine, and the fact that they're dealing with multiple races with completely different body models

So just to clarify we have seen the ball attire along with the skyhold casual attire? I'm guessing its pretty bad by some of the reactions. Should I abandon wanting to dress up nicely for the ball then?

what this statement right here tells me is that no matter what reason they give you, you will still be upset at the decision not to include a dress.

Now that isn't fair or correct.  I am frustrated too, but I respect that their resources aren't infinite.  These resources include the time and energy of the DA team themselves.  The people behind the game.  They aren't robots.   It isn't just about money; those people should be able to sleep/eat/spend time with their families.  I think that some folks underestimate exactly how much work the team goes through.  You can have all the access to money in the world.  You need to sleep sometime.

Should they hire more people?  Good programmers, animators, debuggers, ect don't grow on trees.  Even in Canada.  :P

If they thought that a dress would delay the game even longer, and would put it ahead of other things, then it makes sense that they considered it a low priority.  The best thing to do as fans to try to remain respectful of the DA team, express our concerns and ideas, and request more options down the road.

Yes, it appears that way.   :(

You obviously. Maybe you prefer to think of them as legitimate reasons why bioware thinks animating dresses is too great a burden to bear.

They are legitimate reasons.  You don't have to like them or agree with them.  Be upset, that's your right.  However, if you do some research, Ares is correct.  Take a few and look up video game development.  It's really cool and I personally learned a lot.

I'm not excusing Mike Laidlaw's call on this one, but the reasons are sound.  Remember, Mike Laidlaw is the senior project head for this game.  All decisions ultimately come down to him.  He's David Gaider's boss.

Yeah. It was what I was looking forward to about the ball with my Female Inquisitors, especially since there are little to no feminine armors, but now there's really nothing about it to look forward to for me.
