I was wrong, he actually did say it's based on the materials which affect stats. So I just hope the materials are balanced so that there's no One True Material for any powergamer. (like having paragon fire or paragon ice runes, rather than fire being objectively the best rune)

I could have sworn they mentioned dyes at some point, maybe I was mistaken.

I think I've heard the devs say that they were looking into dyes once or twice, but that's about it...

edit:  Oh, and I agree about the tiered materials... I hope there are a few options for creating endgame equipment, but I doubt it.  That's almost never the case in games with crafting systems... not the ones I've played, at least.

That's what I recall too, much to my disappointment.

I mean, there are multiple dragon types in this game, right? Red dragons don't need to be the best. We have ice dragons, etc. So they could all be similar except their color and elemental resistances.

Though I imagine the pink will come from nugs. That could be a problem.

That wouldn't be a problem for my Lady Cadash.  Food and clothing?  Sold.

I'm kidding.

Hm... interesting idea.  Hopefully you are right, and hopefully there will be a "shadow dragon" of some kind as well...

As for the source of pink armors... I might have to ban the wearing of pink in Skyhold so that my Inquisitor can sleep at night with a clear conscience...   :(

My understanding is that we can use schematics to create suits of armor from whatever materials we find... so for example, the "Inquisitor Helmet" start off looking bronze, but if we use the schematics to forge a new one using the best materials in the game (presumably dragonbone), it will then take on that color (presumably red).

So basically, even our starting equipment could be made godly by using the crafting system so long as we have the basic schematics and high end materials.

That would so blow if all the dragon scale was red.

There's blue dragons

Just to add to this:

From what I've seen of the crafting, the base material supplies the color and base damage, but the utility slots can add a variety of special effects or stat bonuses. There are also "masterwork" versions of some materials that have higher base modifers and/or more powerful bonuses. Hopefully this means that if you are fond of a particular color, you will never feel like you cannot use equipment of that color without gimping yourself.

Wait, so I could potentially find a "masterwork silverite" which would make equipment crafted with it on par with dragonbone?  I suppose that could work, but wouldn't the "masterwork dragonbone" still be better?  Or does "masterwork" status standardize the bonuses so that they are at the highest tier regardless of material?

Dragon bone isn't red anyway tho.

But Dragon scale armor usually does turn out blue-ish

That I don't know. :?

And when I saw a masterwork material being used, it had it's own slot, so I'm unsure if a masterwork material could be used as a base material in any schematic.

Hm... sounds interesting, however it works.  It may indeed be a way around the top tier color limitations, so I'll be sure to remember to check that out.

I imagine that if you want to min-max, masterwork dragonbone would be stronger than masterwork silverite, but unless you are playing on Hard or Nightmare I suspect you will be able to get away with not min-maxing your equipment and dressing for style instead.

Either you're giving me a hard time, or you're ignoring the red shine on the arm there.   ;)

Eh... I'll be playing on Hard but I'll still figure out a way to avoid playing the "optimal" way and do what I want.  I always do.  ;)
