No but you'd think they'd mentioned it if we could.

That's what I was thinking as well.  It seems likely that they would have mentioned being able to wear armor instead of clothing at Skyhold.  While it isn't as jarring as, say, the lack of hair options for the lady Qunari, it is still a disappointment.

I would have preferred options when it came to casual outfits, because more options are always better. I hope they don't package some later as paid DLC, though. I'm definitely really tired of that kind of thing.

The 30 to 1 ratio comparing mounts to casual outfits is an unfair one. Accommodating multiple clothing styles for characters whose body types range from Iron Bull to dwarf women is considerably more resource-intensive than people are acknowledging.

Mounts could be categorized according to a fairly small and manageable number of animation templates, making the difference between most of the mounts less labour intensive to adjust for each characters body type.

It's more likely that during the development process, the team working on casual clothing concluded independently that they didn't have enough time to animate multiple casual outfits in addition to the existing customizable armour. The mount team may have started out trying to make a smaller number, and discovered that by reusing resources with different overlays, they were able to make more than they originally planned, and we ended up getting more mount options as a result.

Of course, I'm speculating, but it makes considerably more logical sense than believing that BioWare set out at the planning stage to say, "30 mounts! And who cares about casual clothing."

That doesn't explain the lack of a recolor option.

Fair enough, how about simply changing colors? That's where a lot of my let-down comes from.  It's one thing to not have options for style.  That sucks, but I can deal with it.  It's the lack of color changing that irks me a little.  Maybe that is something we can do in game (gotta have one surprise) but giving the rest of the customization videos thus far, it seems unlikely.

I could live with the one style if I could change the color up some.  As it is, it doesn't look very good.

By the way, I do think BioWare thought that the mounts were far more important than the causal clothing?  Without a doubt.  Does that mean I think that they were completely apathetic about it?  I don't think so, since the design of the clothes alone proves that they took they time with the style.  That is a vast improvement.  Yet, the colors are terrible.   I feel it's rather ridiculous to have 30 mounts and no apparent way to change the color of your clothes.  Does not compute.

That is true, however that might be in the game. But it's a wait and see thing, unless they said we can't

I honestly don't care. They'll either give us more outfit choices or they won't. If they don't I'll just get used to the one they gave us. It's not that big of an issue.

I think it's unlikely.  Again, they could be saving it as a surprise, but given how much they've shown of customizing weapons, gear and now furniture, I doubt it.  I thought that the last couple of twitch videos would have shown that off.  I'm just going to hope that my concerns have having no color pallet for the clothing are unfounded and I could have a happy little surprise come launch.  ;)

You're assuming that the two decisions are connected, or somehow causal, and that's very unlikely. DA:I has been in development a long time, and I doubt that the decision to include many mounts was ever an either/or prospect with what colour your clothing is, or that any of the team was ever even in a position to make a choice between the two.

I fired off a tweet to Mike Laidlaw and Bioware asking if we can change the colors of the casual wear, hopefully he might respond and let us know once and for all?

It could also be released as a part of a patch later, depending on how many people really express concern over the lack of casual clothing. I doubt they would release DLC specifically for it, but I could see it being part of some DLC. Like within 1 DLC, you get a new story mission, some new weapons, and new casual wear.

But that's only if they make it possible to change clothing within Skyhold at all, and if they didn't make it possible then can they patch that in, and that's only if it is even in high enough demand to bother patching it in. That is just a lot of speculation right now, with only 1 month to release there probably isn't a lot that can be done right now that won't just come out as rushed.

I'm sure the devs considered this, and if it isn't there it's not because they thought  "Hey, everything's going so great, how can we ****** off our fans?"

Perhaps it wasn't that easy to implement? Or maybe they decided to invest resources somewhere else. In any case, I fail to see how this can be so terrible.

I highly doubt they'd make a "casual clothes" DLC.If they did, I picture they would get a huge media backlash.

They could make it for free, they won't get a backlash then

I am all for choices and all that, but I have an additional point.

The color of the costume. If it looks anything like it looks like on my archive feed, it is not the most flattering color option for roughly 70% of skin tone options. That is why most people wear beige on their lower halves as pants or skirts or as a cardigan/coat/ blouse with another color near the face to add some warmth to it (scarf, blouse, necklace etc). If you are warm toned, you might get away with just the tan but if you are cool toned- white, pinky white, olive brown, deep brown, bronzy brown etc, you will look wan and sick.

I am so puzzled by the choice of the default color being this color when there are other colors that are more universally flattering and thus more suitable for a default option. But I am willing to consider the possibility that it may just be my settings and will wait to see how it looks on my playthrough. I am also willing to consider the possibility that maybe the Inquisitor does not care about flattering colors because of the situation at hand.

Did I say that they the mounts had anything to do with the outift?  No, I did not.  I was expressing disappointment at the decision though.

I did say that I felt their priorities were off.  That it seems silly to have that many mounts in the first place and yet have apparently no options to change the color of our clothes.  I don't think that the DA team actively went, "Screw clothing, more mounts!"  That would be a very childish point of view, one that I don't subscribe to.  They've obviously been working hard on much of that, and I'm not trying to knock on what they've done.

Do I feel that at some point in the middle of making and designing 30 mounts that they could have gone, "Hey, let's add a color wheel to the causal clothing option?"  Yes, no doubt.

I'm confused. You're still saying that you feel someone making and designing the 30 mounts should have made the decision to do something about the clothing. My point is that it's very unlikely anyone working on the mounts was ever in a position to make that decision. I'm not saying that it's impossible - but I would be very, very surprised.

And I still have no idea if they even decided to allow you to change the colour, or not, but I'll take your word for it.

To be clear, I still think they should have made more clothing options, I just don't believe they ever sacrificed them specifically to make more mounts, or that the inclusion of more mounts ever had any impact on whether to include more clothing.

Tbh if anything had made any impact on it, it would've been the inclusion of multiple races

There's no question in my mind that the inclusion of multiple races was the single greatest limiting factor in the customizibility of clothing and armour. It has a direct resource impact on the team making clothing and armour. Every step of the way, the animators and designers of the races and clothing would have had to adjust what they were doing to make everything work properly.
