PS3-can you hear the in-party banter?

One problem I had with the PS3 with Origins and DA2 was that it was extremely difficult to hear in-party banter unless you were directly facing your party members. Otherwise, their voices would kind of fade out, and it would be extremely difficult to hear. I was forced to turn on subtitles just to catch a lot of the banter.

This didn't happen on my friend's Xbox 360 or PC, just seemed to be a PS3 issue. Anyone know what I'm talking about and if it's fixed? It was so annoying.

Maybe... the Frostbite engine is new to the series, so... I'm guessing that problems from the old engine won't show up again?  I think that's how it works...

And yes, it was very annoying.

I noticed that on PS3, that I would have to stop and turn around to face the party to hear them clearly. I never played that much on XB360 so I can't say that it's different there, if it is.

I don't remember, was there an option to allow you to increase the volume of party banter?

Did you have the older PS3 or a new one? I have an older one (got it when it first came out.)

I have no idea if that has anything to do with it or not; just find it odd that some PS3 owners apparently experienced it and others didn't.

If it helps, I have a slim, the second model that was released.

That's the one I have and I've had this problem... I did start noticing it after I started playing online though.  I don't remember it being there offline but didn't pay close attention... this never happened at all on 360.  And... I don't remember it in DA:O, only DA2.

Oh, shoot, I actually don't know. It's not one of the first few released models, but I've had it for like... five years? So... kind of old?

May help to have subtitles on? I always do even when I can hear them. Always run at 8% of my TV sound volume anyways. Sound effects sounds like im at 50% from other tv's. I know it drowns out a vacuum cleaner at 70 to 80%. Maybe I should find out what speakers are in that tv.

I've had that problem, mostly in DA2 and I have a ps3 slim. What I do and with other games, is always have the subtitles turned on.

I think it may be a case of either your TV or PS3 aren't set up correctly, and you're losing audio channels.

That's certainly possible, but if it was a TV/PS3 issue, why would it only happen when facing away from companions and resolve when facing them? If there was some stereo/surround sound flaw, you'd think it would happen on all dialogue.
