I got home from my three month vacation in Vermont only find two emails from Electronic Arts (EA) for three FIFA games totaling $99.00. It was obvious to me from the start that my account with EA had been hacked and someone tried to purchase those three games. I called EA and reported that my account with them had been hacked. So they refunded all but $19.99.  Then to top it off EA banned my account for the charge-backs.  So, I could no longer play the games (and their DLCs) that I had purchased long ago. When I challenged them on it they said that I had to send an email to accountdisputes@ea,com. The agent also told me that there was little chance that they would rescind the ban.

After a couple of weeks of waiting for a reply I came to the conclusion that EA was going to like live up to their reputation as being the most hated corporation in the world.  And, they have certainly lived up it. Today I came to the conclusion that I was all done with video gaming. So, I uninstalled all of the games that I had with EA/Origin and with Steam. I am giving up on gaming because Steam and EA can no longer be trusted as a company—especially with my accounts. One bad apple does, indeed, spoil the whole bunch. Needless to say, I won't be buying Dragon Age Inquisition. Thank you.

Did you charge back?

If yes, you're unlucky. If not and they had refunded you after the hacked account issue was resolved without any charge-backs, then their reason for the account ban is void.

I don't see why you wouldn't at least fight the ban assuming you didn't do a chargeback yourself. I also don't see why you would give up on Steam and all of gaming because one company did something bad. Even if you don't want to use digital distribution services with DRM in them there's websites like GOG.

As a side note, EA was only voted as the worst company in America. They were voted for the spot because a lot of people thought that EA might actually care. The idea that EA could be worse than a company like Bank of America is laughable.

You could possibly file a lawsuit against EA for it, though their Grand Clone Army of lawyers likely wouldn't let you get far. But why would you uninstall Steam? If anything, Steam's been received much, much more favorably than Origin, and Valve is often considered to be lightyears ahead of EA in quality.

I'd ask what the hell Steam has to do with Origin. But then I realized this section was essentially...

What happened to you sucks, but blaming Steam for Origin's poor security is one of the most ludicrous things I have ever heard.

Your one bad apple logic is again, Robin whining.

You cannot begin to understand how angry I am at EA. Leaving Steam too was just an after thought.

Well, EA is still number four on the list.

Oh I can. Those bastards almost succeeded in denying me my free copy of Bejeweled 3.

I purchased Dragon Age Origin and the Mass Effect Trilogy in good faith a long time ago and had purchased all of their DLCs. To be locked out of those games was nothing short of criminal. Moreover, I don't and had never play any type of Sports games. So, why would I purchase 3 FIFA games? Especially when I was considering purchasing Dragon Age Inquisition. I am sure I will go back to Steam in a few days, because I love my Bethesda games. EA is nothing short of a greedy corporate terrorist organization, in my book. If I could punch them in the face I would.

Because EA is omniscient and should know this, amirite?

Yup, since the Simcity fiasco, everybody now knows that EA CAN and WILL ban your account if you request a credit card chargeback.

If your account is hacked and someone used it to buy something, I suppose the first thing to do is to contact EA support instead of calling your bank or your credit card company.

Permanently banning your account for chargebacks certainly is sort of understandable from a business point of view, but a terrible practice nevertheless. If EA want to change their business models for the better, should try not to ban their customers for requesting credit card disputes due to hacked accounts. You know, try to help the customers like the "games-as-service" company that they claim to be, and stop treating their customers like thieves.

I did call them....EA...first. Then I called my bank to have my debit card blocked. My bank also tells me that they still owe me $19.99.

Whenever someone decides to "give up on gaming" due to something that's wronged them, they must make a big production out of it.

Long winded posts, the whining, etc.

It's an obvious attention grab. You wanna stop gaming because EA are an entire company of jerks? Good for you, go do that.

You don't have to come here to announce to the masses you're retiring from gaming.

Granted you're more within your right to do so. But so too am I within my rights to call you out on it.

But what's the endgame? There is no meaningful one, either people will be cynical towards you (As Off-Topic is prone to do). Or you'll get your needed attention, the result of which won't get your $20 back.

Want my advice? (Probably not, but see that stop me.) I think you're worked up. Go watch a movie or take a nap or something, calm yourself.

Getting riled up into a blood rage isn't going to help anything.

As far as I am concern they are all the same when you get right down to it. Despite getting hacked EA would have wanted me to eat those illicit funds anyway. They wanted that money no matter what and were not willing to part with it, except by law. But then they punish you for it by banning your account. Their level of greed knows no bounds. And, I am virtually powerless to stop them. I am livid over this nonsense. I hate  EA with more passion than my sixty-seven year old body can muster. It's even keeping me up at night, I am so mad.

Snowflakes brah.

His Steam wasn't banned. Origin isn't exactly the be-all-end-all of digital gaming.

Like I said, he can quit all he wants, just don't be a Dramatic Danny about it. That's where my problem lies.

The part that's got me angry is that I paid a lot of money for DAO, DA2 and the Mass Effect Trilogy, along with all of their DLCs. They were bought and paid for. What right do they have to keep those games from me? They're an American Crooked corporation. Free market and all that BS.

It was games that I bought and paid for in good faith, that's why. But, I have had enough. No one gives a darn that I was wronged by EA.

Not everyone can react the same way as you do when they find their Origin account banned. Some people have invested more time and money on their Origin account than others.

Just imagine one day EA bans your account because someone hacked it and your bank issued a chargeback. Now you can't play ME3, BF3, BF4, or even the recently preordered DA:I. All your hard earned weapon upgrades, achievements, kill stats, friends list, and DLCs are all gone. That makes a lot of sense, does it?
