Well, I finally received and email from EA. Although, it doesn't sound all that promising. Here is the quote:

The charges showed up on my account shortly after I came home from Vermont. I saw them in my email first and then I saw the pending charges on my online bank statement. Moreover, the so called FIFA games themselves were not in any email or in Origin ready for download. I DON'T PLAY EA SPORTS GAMES OF ANY KIND. Please get that through your thick heads. I am really getting tired of defending myself. If you all don't want to believe the truth that's your issue, not mine.

Here's the issue. He's saying "this is how it looks to EA..." and he's correct about that. EA doesn't know you, it doesn't know your gaming preferences.

For what it's worth I believe you and I hope you get this straightened out, but raging in cap locks because someone is explaining how it would look like to someone at EA who doesn't know you is counter productive to what you're trying to achieve.

Anyways good luck. I Hope you do get your money back and this whole thing resolved quickly.

Also check out GoG if you haven't already for your digital games. I've had nothing but good experiences with them.

I have checked out GOG once before. They won't allow you to mod any games that can me modifiable. Copyright nonsense. That's why I love Bethesda.

How would they prevent you from modding though? They put no DRM in their games so I don't see how they would monitor you to begin with? Sorry I know this is off topic from the original discussion but I'm just curious. I had a copy of Baldurs Gate from them and I *think* I was able to get a bunch of mods put on that one.

Maybe it wasn't GOG, but one that i can't remember. Anyway I would prefer not to use any of them. Unfortunately, it is getting so you can't play any game now unless it is through Steam or Origin or the like. I still prefer the hard dick version completely.

GOG doesn't actually use DRM, so they wouldn't disallow modding(they can't even if they wanted to). If you really want physical copies then you'll probably need to play on consoles for now, but eventually we're all going digital. There's no escaping it.

Also, brilliant typo in the last line.

I am trying to multi-task while modding up a reinstalled Skyrim.

Aren't those games covered by the refund of 1 week/24 hours of play?

Since the steam hack I dont store my car details on services if I can avoid it. Got the extra origin security (one time code to email).

At least though with EA you can contact someone. From what I heard valve would not issue refunds. If you didnt do the charge back, explain to them who did it (if you did, well...)

Well that's kind of the definition of hackers isn't it?

Yeah. My question should have been why the OP in particular, and why an EA account rather than something more damaging.

Well, I hope you get your account and the games you paid for back. Hacking of personal information seems to be a real problem in the US.

I just activated the 2-steps-authentication in Origin. Now my account is linked to a GMail-account that is protect by a 2-steps-authentication itself. I suggest you do the same when you get your account back.

Well, no one knows why the hackers chose to use OP's Origin account. It is most likely random, they saw an opportunity and they just jumped on it.

Either they got the password or they just simply cracked it somehow. Origin really needs to use an email authorization for unregistered computers like Steam Guard.

Judging from how hackers used OP's account to buy FIFA, maybe they just really wanted to play FIFA with their hacker pals with someone else's money. The hackers probably also knew that EA being EA, would have their hands tied dealing with the owner of the account rather than pursuing and pressing criminal charges on the hackers for a few hundred dollars of damage, who are usually thousands of miles away from the US where EA is based.

In your Origin-client:

Origin -> Account and Privacy -> Security ->  Login Verification -> Turn On

You can choose between text message and E-mail. Steam has something similar.

And never let Origin/Steam/Uplay etc. save your credit card data or PayPal.

Thanks. Hopefully if they restore my account I will implement that ASAP. Right now Origin is uninstalled. What is the point of having it if I can't play all of my DLCs with Mass Effect 3. So very, very disappointing. Anyway, thanks for the input. It is much appreciated.

Now I remember Origin does have it, but I didn't have it turned on because I could never get it to send the confirmation email.

If the hacking was their fault, you have reason to be angry.

If the hacking was your fault, they were smart to ban you.

Didn't work for me either. Had to press "Resend".

I beg to differ. That said, I am not going to debate the issue any longer.

In either case, it's probably not a bad idea for the OP to double check his PC to make sure he has nothing bad on it.

Good point. I never play MP myself, so I keep forgetting that there's a reason a criminal might want to steal a legit copy of a game.

update:

"Hello Joseph,

My name is Crystal, and I recently received you BBB complaint regarding your banned Origin account. First, I would like to apologize for all the trouble and frustration this issue must have caused you. I understand your account was compromised, and your credit/debit card used to make purchases without your authorization.

After reviewing the account, I see you spoke to an agent on 9/25 and refunds were processed for the fraudulent charges. I also found a charge back from your bank on 10/6, which caused the account to be actioned. I see you've attempted to dispute the account ban with our account disputes team but haven't received any replies to your e-mails. Due to this, I've reached out to my contact on the account disputes team to explain the situation, and see what we can do to have the ban removed.

As soon as I have heard back, I'll provide you with an update. Thank you for your time!

Sincerely,

Crystal C.
