Hello my fellow commanders, finally i found the modding thread! :D

I have a quick question: I know bout some texture mods and the Happy Ending Mod but why are there no mods out which add new systems (like Alpha Centauri or Sirius) and/or add old ones from ME1 and ME2? This is still one of the easiest content mods you can make and far simpler then new missions/real new endings (like the Dark Energy one). I wondered, is it just not intresting enough to add new Star Systems which you can visit with the Normandy on the Galaxy Map?

I think it would be so interesting to make Alpha Centauri for example or the Gliese 667 System (where in Real Life it probably contains 3 Super Earths) where most probably Demeter, the first human extrasolar Colony, is located (according to that point, the fact that the star is just about 20 lightyears away makes it even more realistic!)! Even Etamis and the Schwarzschild Systems or other known ones...later, it would be still an option to create Missions there^^ :)

The new Systems would be like all the other ones with Planets/Description etc. and nice for Background Info :D

Because content mods are far from simple and the main appeal in content modding lied in fixing current content before adding new content initially.

Content mods represent a huge timesink. I imagine creating new content is also quite the undertaking when it's something you're stepping fresh into.

While the tools make a lot possible, there are definately restrictions as well and you're coding against the grain. ME3 modding is a hack, essentially.

Just consider Things like MEHEM, Thane Mod, Citadel Epilogue and all the others etc.! Besides, the only restrictions are your knowledge and the ones within the actual game engine.

I know what you mean but concerning that, it is not such a great problem if you are experienced with modding/programming/coding, respectively working in the branche, it just needs more time^^ In Fact, i already made a new system for mass effect 2 back in 2012 (Alpha Centauri, it was possible to enter it when just flying outside of sol in the local cluster, it contained the 2 Suns and Alpha Centauri Bb which is a real life exoplanet there) and i looked into mass effect 3, not much harder to do that there and even more possible to add old systems which were already in ME1/2 if there is enough time :)

I shared it with a friend of mine who works as a programmer/game designer and is far more sophisticated in coding and all that stuff then me, although he didnt make much for ME so far due to time issues^^

Just wanted to know if i am the only one who would like to see new Systems with Background Info (like the one where Demeter is in)?

I'd personally love to see more systems for sure and if you have the time and motivation to stick into their creation that would be marvelous. I'd encourage it.

Honestly it's hard to motivate others for projects when it's not something they chose to do themselves, especially along the active modding crowd. Myself for example, I've been texture/mesh modding for a couple of years now in the ME series and I'm about ready to hang up my hat as I've already stuck so much of my time into it I'm ready to move on to new things, other games. Spend time on other hobbies. Committing to a project that's not even started up yet would be out of the question for me.

We see questions here often on the how or why certain things haven't been done yet or people asking for help on projects they thought up and while there's nothing wrong with that per say you can maybe imagine that at some point we don't really take ideas etc seriously anymore unless someone is willing to dive in themselves to get things started (and actually do).

Having 'knowledge and experience' as you say obviously helps with startup issues but any mod you might considered doing just represents a mayor timesink up to a point where the regular modding crowd is less likely to stick time in things not already in development, as we frequently spend time explaining things just to see a projects aborted straight after. We've collectively created a plethora of tutorials and guides for those interested in learning how to use the tools and what's possible so it is easier to get started as you can benefit from the experience of others that way.

So, consider how much you want it for you and what you'd want to do exactly, make a project thread on the ME3Explorer forums and/or here and just get started. That's basically how we've all done it in the past and the modding community is quite helpful and will no doubt be there when you need us along the way.

I actually made a "Fob System" as a test case once. :) It really isn't that hard to do but it does require time, nonetheless. Also, multiple mods like this would cause compatibility issues with one another, because everyone would need to mod the same file.

And I do agree with Ottemis first post, it didn't seem like a priority. It's a nice gimmick to have an extra system or two but withoutnew missions, it's only fun for about 2 minutes (and who would want more fetch quests).

Now, if we could create new missions in a reasonable time frame, that would be a different matter. My dream was always to have heaps of mods which all add new systems with new adventures. Although, my personal first priority would be to change the existing fetch quests into actual missions.

All in all, it's doable and if you like new systems, why not just create some (especially if you already did it for ME2, ME3 uses almost exactly the same mechanics for the GM). BTW, how did you add a system to ME2? Without ME3Explorer in order to figure out what's what in the pccs, I can't imagine how that would even work. Did you make a file decoder for pccs yourself back in the day?

Oh, btw, check out this thread, it might interest you as well.

Back in the Days of 2012 i had'nt got so much into it and i was not able to make a file decoder myself.
Without the help of my buddy, it would have been impossible^^ He made it in his private time for experimenting (he really likes puzzling, hell even malbolge makes him smile instantly) and stuff like that.
Some day i mentioned my modding attempts at ME2 and when i told him about the pccs, he looked into ME2, shared it with me,explained it and helped me out getting started with his decoder and the process :)

Thanks for your Reply, well my System in ME2 was also a Test filled with only one planet and the 2 Suns^^
I already thought about contributing to MEHEM, maybe you read my post in the forum topic here?
I think i have (at least partly) some nice Ideas and Thoughts :D

I agree with you that some kind of "Mission Editor" would be awesome and very well needed for further work!
Despite this, i would nevertheless create new systems like the Demeter one cause i think it would perfectly expand/improve the game/lore :)

I read a bit in your forums, especially the one about adding mulitplayer maps into sp to have a good starting point when it comes to custom missions and had some ideas though but nothing specific so far^^

Unfortunately my time is limited atm, if anything goes smooth i will have more freetime in a few weeks with december coming :D

Question, Have you guys found away to use the Muliplayer  scene for single player, I tried to contact Bioware and see if they would just carry these missions as DLC, But I figured you guys have made the game so much better. The Map Mod already have the missions, just need the scenery.

The missions in MapMod are not the same thing as the "missions" you are referring to - they are mostly accomplished in the Galaxy Map, not in new level-based missions for Shepard to complete with his/her squad.

In the past, a few modders have been successful with adding/editing new levels in ME3 (like exploring the unused MP maps through the Console, cloning or removing a few meshes into a level map), but it was mostly done for experimental purposes and there hasn't been much research done into fully adding new level maps into ME3, nor has there been any research done into creating new level-based missions with goals, combat, etc.

I like the one MRFod did, he added some missions into his MapMod, I was asking to use these existing mission with background layouts from MUliplayer. I understand what you are saying , just understand what I was asking.

Ok,Ok,Ok, you are right , absolutely right, I guess the answer is no. I did not realize this would be like this. I will not bother anyone anymore. Happy Gaming. Bye.
