Reflect back

What kits did you start playing in the beginning?

What kits did you first feel you could contribute with in the higher difficulties?

As time moved on in this games life cycle, what kits have separated themselves as your all-time favorites?

Personally, I really sucked at the start, I didn't start playing this until August 2012, when my brother and his friend had been playing since the beginning ... they dragged me thru Gold (I was truly pitiful)

When I first got the Kroguard, that helped me a lot, because now I could stay alive without being revived constantly, then I got a Shadow, and Electric Slash became my offensive output for a month (spamming it thru the door on FBW/G/G) .. first thing I was able to do to have some damage output.

It wasn't until I got the Vorcha Soldier that I was able to break the 100K score mark, I played this character for months, the first I could really PUG Gold games with.

Then along came the Valkryie, what a great kit, I played it virtually non-stop for about a year. It is still my go to kit for really weak PUGs or duoing.

It wasn't until after that, I started to branch out and play a wide variety of kits.

Over the past few months, one kit has separated itself as my favorite, The Human Adept .. I love biotic explosions. This kit is awesome (especially if you have a light loadout and a power efficiency module). TBH, it is my affinity to starting new accounts which led me to like this character so much, just slap on a Predator, level up and you are Gold ready!

Tl/Dr

Play the Human Adept kiddies, with a little practice and experience, you can dominate a match with continual BE's

Human engineer and drell adept were my favorites when I started playing the game.
Drell adept, TSol, HEng, SE were the characters I used a lot when I was climbing difficulties.

Drell adept and the smashbros are my top 3 as of now, and I don't see that changing.

Drell adept has always been my favorite right from the moment I unlocked him.
I used to dislike smashbros early on, but now they are my go to characters, and i enjoy them a lot.

My original favourites were the HI, Shadow, and Justicar.

Thinking back, I am both amused and embarrassed how I built and played them (despite the fact that it was actually very effective - on Bronze/Silver.)

The HI kind of dropped off and was replaced by Speedy Gonzalez.*

The Shadow and Justicar became Gold-viable through sheer, dogged determination.

My other favourites were almost always a cross-section of powers that I enjoyed, mixed with kits that I found to be effective on Gold without the need for me to pull my hair out in rage. The Vorcha Sentinel, and Fury are up there, but almost never used, because they make Gold so easy, and spawn-nuking so easy that I feel like I'm just basically robbing all the gameplay from my teammates. I figure any kit where I'm consistently outscoring everyone is probably OP.

^ When I first started using kits with Warp and Reave, I would take all the damage evo's, passing up all debuffing or combo detonations evolutions lol.

Nothing beats a Warp spec'd 4A 5A and 6B, right?

When I first moved to Gold, I used the Phoenix Adept. Lash & Smash. I think for half a year or so I played adepts exclusively, then I decided I wanted the BotB banner and had to play everything else. Some were a lot more fun and sadly, now I only play the Phoenix Adept when I want more challenge points. ^^

QFI was the kit that I learned the game with, started on silver with Mantis/Raptor, then moved up to gold and above when I got my Widow 1 (lol)within a couple days. She was the only kit I used until I got my 2nd Quarian (quarksman). Has pretty much always been a no fitness sniper build, though the ratio of power/weapon damage has changed and I now use her frequently as melee build.

I play all 5 quarians now but QFI is still my favourite, followed by Quarksman and QFE

I started playing MP probably about a month after ME3 came out. I was so disgusted with the whole SP affair that I didn't touch the game for two weeks and then decided to try the MP just cause the SP debacle had left me severely depressed and I needed a ME fix.

My first kits were the HA and HI. I was using them probably half the time it took me to upgrade my inventory with all the uncommons. The first time I ventured into gold was with a Viper HE , though, and it happened to be Dagger/Cerberus. We took it (random PUG), but it was a near thing and I was quite shocked at the change of pace from silver to gold. Well, after that I mastered the vanilla human adept, engineer, infiltrator  and soldier and of course the SI and the AA (people nowadays forget how powerful they are). I remember I was using Shockwave and Singularity way before they got buffed. :P  Anyway, a couple of months after Platinum came out I had my manifest maxed out and was kinda bored, so I stopped playing and returned a whole year after.

Turns out I'd missed quite a lot of things (weekend operations, HQ, banners, new kits and weapons, tech explosions working all the time, etc, etc..). I started working on my manifest and the banners, all the while watching vidoes from Stardusk, InvaderOne and IamXShadrach. My game improved quite a lot and I finally got the hang of the drells.

In the beginning I preferred the vanilla humans a bit more than the other classes, but not by much. Nowadays though, they are my absolute favorites, followed closely by the drells. I detest flamers, TGIs, Sexbots and Reegar users (and Krysae before it got nerfed).

My highest scoring kits are the HA, HE, Javelin GI and the Drellgod. About the only thing I still suck at are solos, but I've recently started working on it.

TL;DR

I absolutely adore the Vanilla Humans and the Drells. I took a whole year away from MP and when I came back I was able to elevate my gameplay quickly, especially with my favorite kits.

I got the AIU from one of the present packs when I first started playing ME3MP in summer 2013. I always used her to get to higher difficulties and I even did my first silver solo with this character.

GE and Batarian Vanguard were some of my very first characters. I used them a lot on silver and I really liked them.

I eventually managed to move to gold with the help of TGI, AIU and Vorcha Soldier.

When unlocking more characters I started using a bigger variety of characters. I enjoyed the Valkyrie, GI, Shadow and KroSol a lot and later by the time I became more active on BSN, QME, TSent and Drell Assassin became my favorite characters.

I started out with the Human Engi, and it sucked for a long time until the day of the glorious combo mechanic balance change. It is still one of my favourites now. My first match was a bronze solo to "try out and learn so I would not suck while playing with real people". Guess how that turned out - I quickly returned to sucking regardless of other real people. :)

Next I played QFI a lot on silver and there is this one match that still haunts me. Today I know it was a glitched invincible Hunter, but back then, I was the last guy standing and I seemed to miss every shot, every grenade chucked, all the while the others were watcing. So embarassing.

It is really hard to say, because the available weapons come in there, too, but I think it was the "Detonator", a GI with Falcon, incendiary and lots of proxy mine and explosions that made me comfortable with Gold. That was in the days of white counter hugging.
I remember one match where I proceeded to the stairs and simply killed everything that came down. Eventually the others came out behind the counter and we did a decent match together.

It was with a Volus Sent I realized I can probably play any kit on Gold - thanks to the challenge system I picked him and all the others for Gold - it would have taken ages to complete otherwise.

Human adept has been my favorite since the Singularity buff, and I don't think it will change. I have probably some fascination for characters who can kick asses without firing a shot or, as you said Max, with only a Predator.

The first kit I used in gold was the human soldier, but it wasn't meaningful. Now in hindsight, I probably spent too much time in silver, so when I moved up to gold I had already a correct experience and was comfortable enough to play any character at this difficulty.

For platinum, my first go-to kits where the Geth Trooper and the Destroyer. Then, after a few weeks playing at this difficulty, I decided to try to extract in platinum with all characters.

Well, let's see... One of the very first things I did in gold was stubbornly going on trying to understand how to play the DrellGod the right way... Until I finally did and started loving him.

... Two years later, he is still my favorite, heads and shoulders above anything else.

First kit played was human Soldier - thinking my "SP insanity skills" would shine - I was quickly proven wrong on that :)

First gold kit was the asari adept - damn I was nervous during my first gold games.

First platinum kit was reegar/AIU - mainly due to not having any good UR weapons at that time.

Once I got the TSent, I played him exclusively for a year.  Every new weapon went on him.

Looking back, he hasn't changed much.

i played only and extensively the novaguard at start. Still my favourite even if i dont play it a lot cause its a bit easy in team game.

Then the first video i watched was a SI BW dagger reaper solo, and i start playing a no proxy SI.

I think i played those 2 quite a lot and stayed too much on silver too :).

Kroguard was a good kit to start on gold.

Now i love everything but most soldier and some engies. Adept and vanguard are more fun.

N7 char were a blast, I love every one of them (except the destroyer)

I started with the HSol in the Demo and the TSent and FQE became my favorite kits back than.

After the release I started with the Novaguard until I got the TSent again. He was always the first kit on the next higher difficulty. However I could not get the FQE to work. I still liked the FQE thought. It take me a few months reading in this forum and a bugfix before I understand the FQE. Learning how to Reload Cancel helped also.

After that the FQE became my favorite kit again followed by the TSent, the HSol and Melee Krogans (exept the easymode Kroguard).

The Valkyrie is the only DLC kit that made it into those favorites later.

Unfriended, blocked, and reported.   :police:  :police:  :police:

I would also love to contribute to the thread topic but I have never gotten good with any kit. We cannot speak of that which we do not know.

Original Human Adepts were my starting characters, played them a ton at the beginning. Still like them a lot, especially after singularity was buffed. Those BEs never get old.

Human Sentinel was my go-to character for a long time when first trying out higher difficulties, that Tech Armor was crucial to staying alive (at least psychologically :)). I also played the Turian Sentinel a lot back then, great character. Have not played him for ages, though, no idea why.

First new character I unlocked was the Asari Vanguard. Was amazed, still love playing her.

Will never forget the first match played as a Krogan. They first got me into melee and playing aggressively. Original KroSent is probably still my favorite.

Nowadays I play a bunch of different characters. I especially like everything that lets me zip around the map quickly and/or do combos such as Valkyrie, Cabal or Drell Adept. I also like to play Batarians quite a bit because of all the hilarious moments that can be had with them.

Started with the Human Sentinel.
Had a tryst with the Talon for a while, but couldn't make it stick.
Mained a Fury after that.
Then GI for a worryingly long time.
Finally landed on Drell after I got gud.

My first platinum match was on Glacier when the camping room was still up. Everybody insisted in staying there, but I was itching to get out of there. In the end we bled out doing the objective. The first successful platinum match was on Giant against Collectors - I didn't do the most damage but it felt so much easier compared to the other factions.

One night I joined a group for speed-running on glacier platinum and we set up for maximum missile havoc. There was a bit of confusion and not every spawn was handled well. After a couple of runs we just said "screw it", equipped GIs and I put on a Piranha with the best consumables and in the end that run took us just like 1 or 2 minutes more than with missiles. After the evening the game seemed somewhat pointless and I went on a break for about half a year. I never speed ran again.

Started out with Human Engineer.

Played Human Sentinel forever.  Used that to move from Bronze to Silver.

Moved on to the Justicar and Human Adept as my preferred classes.  Those are the classes I used to transition to Gold.

I went through a "fire and melee" phase when I only used the Batarian and Krogan Soldiers.  Got my 1st Gold solo with the Batarian Soldier.

Now I play pretty much anything and everything.  I don't really have a desire to play Platinum.  I don't find it as much fun as Gold.

The Salarian Infiltrator with the Valiant and the Turian Sentinel with the Mattock were the first setups I used a lot. The weapons have changed often but those are still two of my favourite kits.

QFI - I got lots of Valiants in promotional packs back in the days of weekend operations; QFI/Valiant was my goto kit for quite a while.

I play most kits now but my stand-out favourite is the melee-specced Krentinel with a Graal + Omni-Blade, what's not to like about a giant, homicidal space woodlouse that backhands everything with such glee!

Also quite like the Volus Adept - oddly.

My first ever game was with a human infiltrator. I remember taking 10 seconds to aim a shot...

Now I mostly play my AIUI with all kinds of different weapons and other stuff on the side.

Unlocked a Turian Sentinel in a pack. He guided me through my first gold on day 1.

He was very gentle and helped me through my inexperience in gold. I fell in love with him after our very first match. I still compare all others to him, and no one else even comes close.

Except Turian Soldier. At first with Turian Soldier, I was uncertain, convinced he did not live up to the pure excellence that is the Turian Sentinel. But then I unlocked a Saber and it all fell together. A year and a half later that Turian and I still spend many nights together. He is one classy guy.

tl;dr: my love of turians started on day one and only intensified

alternate tl;dr: turians

My first favorite kit was the QFE back in the demo.  Eventually I moved on to the Vorcha Soldier when was trying to move up to gold.  The vorcha soldier is now pretty much the only thing that I CAN'T play on gold decently...  Now my favorites are the Justicar, CryoSoldier, Demolisher, and SI.
