It won't happen. If BW tells the story of an adventurer raising a child, they're going to make that part of the core storyline.

^^^ This ^^^^

It could be a very interesting thing to include in a future game. DA2 touched on the family relationships in regard to your siblings, mother and the bit with finding Malcolm's will in Legacy, might be very cool to see more of that kind of thing at some point. Tbh i thinks it too big a concept to be done as DLC (at least to do it in a meaningful way), but next game in the series? Maybe

[snip]

Wouldn't that just be a companion?

It would be fun though to start a topic with your LI, and depending whi it it they would either be inddiferent to completely shocked and scared in a comical way

Some would be open to it I imagine. Solas probably wants some elf babies at least :D

No. I don't need to see it, I just like the open possibility. In ME3 it was like "one day let's start a family" and then the game was like "lol j/k that can never happen."

Well, if you got the Breath Scene it could.

no it would not be another  companion well if that was it looks like what is different about it is you can teach values to the adopted person and even though that adopted person may disagree with you. if you select why you believe it and the adopted person see your point of view the adopted person will not count it towards you or you can change their point of view possibly if you do the proper speech options in order of the discussion plus you can choose where to adopt the person anyway to avoid something like this for example adopt someone from a circle of magi of course that adopted person would support the mages cause. if you adopt a person from the chantry of course that adopted person would side with the templars. you can adopt the person from anywhere and any city and carry those values with him but you can change those values though like I said if you choose the right speech options in order of the discussion.

the difference between this and a companion would be a companion you can't change their mind but a adopted person you can. a companion you can't teach them values and act like their father or mother like you can with a adopted person. of course  the adopted person comes to you or you to them with maybe different values but you can change the values of the adopted person plus if the adopted person is from circle of magi and you can take him with you if there is an issue there the adopted person can give you a special advice to you to make it easier for you to make your decision through what experience the adopted person had. I would put the adopted person age as a teenager who is inexperienced at alot of the issues and that is why you can change his point of view on things because the adopted person know this plus when you gain his trust the more trust you gain the more easier it is to change his point of view because the adopted person trust you and loves you and know what you are doing are right but sometimes question your authority like alot teenagers do. I haven't played the game yet but if you can gain the trust of the other companions what would be  difference is the companions have their values and what they believe and it is already set and nothing you can do to change that but the adopted person values is not set and so therefore you can change it.

I am always for making games more roleplaying friendly. And for adding more things. And while this would be a cool addition (as it was in skyrim) I dont think the state of the world as it is in DA:I or the fact that youre character is, or at least should be, consumed by the raging war around them leaves much time for caring for a child.

I can see the appeal in such a feature, I suppose. However, I would prefer they spend development time on DLC more relevant to the core concepts of the game.

Only if the child increases in value as he/she "ages" over the progression of the game. Near the end, so many sovereigns. Bonus points if the PC's partner complains in dialogue, especially if you use that money to buy the companion a gift.

Well, if you got the Breath Scene it could.

That was originally impossible without multiplayer, and even so it could be interpreted as a dying breath. Not to mention originally the Normandy was stranded on some random unknown planet with the mass relays destroyed so there was no hope of them ever seeing each other again. Six months later when they made the ending DLC it was too late, the damage had been done so to speak. Anyway my original point was that I don't want that to happen again.

Although i don't dispute your idea, I would just rather have DLC that adds more story content to the plot

If it was implemented well, I'd have no problems with it.  I would like to have the option of adopting children of different races and not just human children.  Would like to see what a dwarven or Qunari child looks like.

Maybe it could be a discussion with your LI beforehand?  Or maybe your LI could react to it differently depending on whether or not you discussed it with them?  That would make it even more realistic, imo.

If they include that maybe an LI not liking kids at all...(sorry, people wo don't have and don't want children might be a minority out there, but we still exist, so a nod to us (I am such a person) would be nice)

As for the option itself - allow us to train the kid (or not - if you don't want to)...like an apprentice (either you do it yourself...or let one of your companions/advisors do it)...at least in a future game (it's too late now IMHO)

Said apprentice would be your second-PC-character (so you can basically play two classes at once (more or less) if you want to - or just one, in order to have a spare *add whatever class you like*)...the sex of the child could be decided by being given the option to rescue one of two children, either the boy or the girl (race and looks could be something you get to chose...), you could send them on missions, too (note: child is a little wrong - I am talking about a character around 15-17 years of age (at the start of the game)...so teenager is more fitting) - those missions would happen at the same time (at least the game would state they do, of course you can't actually lead two parties at once...though switching between two parties might be nice for certain missions, if say the PC is showing up at a ball to mingle with the nobles, forge connections etc. (and act as a distraction for the second team) while the second team is there to steal something out of the vault or free prisoners or poison the food or something...this might be a nice story telling tool (as long as it's not over-used - so not every mission should work like that)) as the one your "real" PC is undertaking....well, just an idea and as I already said:

Next time - maybe? (too late for DA:I)

greetings LAX

Adopting worked in those games but won't work in Dragon Age because....
Skyrim is open world game with no strict storyline.
Fable is less strict but has no real ending like Skyrim.
Dragon Age has a strict storyline meaning it has beginning & ending.
If they introduced a kid you adopted it would need story relevance.

I don't know if I'd want to adopt a kid... Establishing an orphanage on the other hand... And assigning someone to care for them, maybe visiting if my Inquisitor felt like it.

Just think about all those poor kids who's parents are/will/has died in front of their eyes with the chaos everywhere. And you want to save just one of them? How cruel.

I like the idea of adopting a kid, but it wouldn't work probably like a typical adoption. More like "You can come stay in the Keep. You have nowhere to go, and it's dangerous out here. Just try to not bother people, and keep busy."

Must you put yourself down? (that's not helping - is it?)

I don't think I am all that intelligent (I can voice things - I have a talent for arguing, talking, explaining stuff and giving speeches in front of crowds (had a trial by "fire" when I was younger - I was doing an internship at a financial services company and my mentor took me along to a meeting of the branch managers and the heads of the company (department heads and the directors of the company, too)...and we had to work in groups on a presentation for half the day and give a speech using what we had put together later on (in front of the whole seniour staff of the company!)...my group sent me to do the presentation (funny thing: one of the company-heads was part of my group and he thought I should do it - that he trusted me to...wow, mind-blowing)...man was I nervous...but it worked - that was a self-confidence boost...it was astonishing! - I was feeling like I floated around for some time later...overwhelming)...but other than that - well, I don't know :)

Sorry for being off topic - but I hate all this extreme humbleness people display (a little pride doesn't hurt - as long as you don't put on airs and start thinking you are better than anybody else!)...it's so stupid that people always say "be humble" - I say: How can you reach a goal and show how good you are, if you are humble all the time and unwilling to accept praise?

greetings LAX

That was mostly the idea from the beginning, but I really screwed up my wording in my original post  :(

And happy that you like the idea

It is just that if I was better at talking, I could have made my original post far more informative then how it is right now. I have never been good at talking, I cannot even talk to my own family easily... really annoying when you think about it  :P

I am not really able to say what I want to say in a really informative way (as you se in my original post) it almost seems like a bat wrote it ...... IM BATMAN!!!

And nice to know they trusted ya, as they say trust is alot of the time more worth than gold
