So will purchasing a digital copy, or the digital deluxe version of the game in any way affect multiplayer?
my guess is no but I want to be sure before buying

I could be wrong but I thought I heard recently that with one of the delux versions you get an extra mp chest or something as added digital content.

You get the "Deluxe Edition Multiplayer Chest"
For 10$, better be one hell of a chest...

That's not all you get for your extra $10...... so yeah.
And no one's forcing you to buy it.

Exactly. The soundtrack we get along with the Deluxe Edition is worth 10 dollars on it's own. You'll easily get the full value out of your deluxe edition purchase.

Never said anyone was forcing me to buy it ![]()
It all depends on what you put value on. If you think that 1 soundtrack, 1 armor, 2 mounts, 1 throne skin, 1 horse armor (lol oblivion) and 1 chest is worth it, then by all mean be my guest.
I just think that compared to ME3 it's pretty f**kin weak. In ME3, the soundtrack was free for everyone. Not to mention the Deluxe Edition got you a comic book, an art book, a lithography and more importantly, a sizable single player DLC.
Do what you want, your 10$ will eventually serve me in form of free MP DLCs anyway. I'm just saying the offer is pretty weak for what you paid, you don't have to agree.

what does that mean though? whats inside? exclusive items? rare items? random loot?

If ME3 is any indication, probably 3 random "ultra rare". It's a nice bonus, but I doubt it's worth 10$ for reasons mentionned earlier.

I would assume random loot. Maybe some higher-quality items, but that's pure speculation.
Sounds like getting a free N7 promo weapon pack or something, to give you an equivalent.

A Deluxe edition is a fan service.
It cannot be too good or folk will complain you are playing for day one dlc or paying to win.
It cannot be too weak or it will be poor value.
It's a really hard trick to pull off and I think BioWare have done it about right.
