Does anyone have any information on whether there will be cities like Denerim or Orzammar to explore and quest in DAI?

A recent tweet saying that they are focusing on the wilderness worries me. I do not want the game to be basicaly going from the keep to a underpopulated area, killing a bunch of npc's and coming back.( I am exaggerating of course but you know what I mean).

I would hope there's at least one big hub area.. If not a couple of small "city" hubs would be cool too imo. I appreciate they're pushing the whole exploring and wilderness that DA2 severely lacked but I do hope there are cities.

Skyhold is your hub area.

I think we'll see villages like Redcliff, but not any actual metropolis like Denerim or Val Royeau.  Skyhold is going to be a huge hub and very much like a mini-city with tavern and merchants, etc.

Big cities are kinda hard to do well in video games because they don't have the resources to populate hundreds of different buildings to do them justice.  Kirkwall and the cities in Skyrim both did a good job, but both required a willful suspension of disbelief.  Kirkwall required you to take it for granted that only a small portion of each city area was available to you and your party, and the cities in Skyrim were really too small to be true population centers (though they did a good job of giving the illusion that they were larger than they really were).

Judging by screenshots we've seen, I'm thinking we might step foot in a major city like Val Royeaux once or twice, but it'll probably be a more closed off and linear section when compared to the wilderness.

It just doesn't seem likely that the Inquisition will do everything out in the field.

I think we might see sections of Val Royeau, but it would be hard to it justice. I do want to see the grand cathedral though.but just looking at this concept art image, might prove why we wouldn't see much of Val Royeau. But as there is a ball being mentioned as a plot point, I wouldn't surprise if it happens in the orlaisian capital.

I did notice what looked like a town on the lake in the Crestwood demo (not Crestwood itself, but on the other side of the castle)...

That would be cool, an expansion would be awesome.

That's what I've been thinking, a DLC in Val Royeaux.  Honestly, I'd rather they do the Orlesian capital right, and not have to rush on it.  With so much else in this game already, I understand that they had other priorities.

Still hoping for Kal-Sharok, but I doubt it.

That said, I'm curious how much of Halamshiral we'll end up seeing...

I am pretty sure we will be going to Halamshiral but I dunno how much of it we will actually get to see, it might just be inside the winter palace and some courtyard areas.

I will be disappointed if we don't get to see Val Royeaux it seems like it would be a given for a game set in Orlais but from what we have seen I am thinking it's probably not in the game.

This is something I'm worried about. Given the fact that they've steered clear of showing any cities and it's one month before release, it looks a whole lot like "no."

The wiki say we meet 'Sera' in the street of Orlais....so...there must be a city for the 'street' .

Yeah I can't imagine encountering Sera or Vivienne in some shack in the woods. They're city girls!

It's a better choice. Cities are incredibly hard to do and they just end up being big villages anyway.

I think we'll see slices of cities, but not entire cities.

I'd bet all my Septims... wait Orens... nope definitely gold... that we'll get to explore Val Royeaux in some capacity.

Are we going to see a large, sprawling metropolis for us to explore to our hearts' content. Not likely. Perhaps the largest city in The Witcher 3 will satisfy that fantasy, but DAI hasn't given any indication that there will be a lot of urban exploration. Do ancient dwarven cities underground count?

Well we are going to a ball in Orlais so I doubt there is a ball room out in the middle of the woods <.<

Oh I'm sure there will be...certainly when we have the civil war in Orlais...or at least I really hope there are cities in this game. I really don't see any reason as to why there wouldn't be...

Cities are also a defining feature of most triple A RPGs these days. BioWare has a history of making more static worlds but if they failed to include something similar to Denerim from DA:O, I think a lot of players would be disappointed.

It certainly looks like we won't see a sprawling city, otherwise we would have had it confirmed by a dev already, but it's not really a 'better' choice. Some people will like/ hate it either way.
