Because your other fleshy one was cut off in battle! So yeah with character growth being the core staple of what the CRPGs should be about shouldn't our character gain the scars over the journey representing the lessons and experiences that were learnt the hard way? Would you like to see characters lose a hand only to have it replaced by one of animated stone or iron or acquire the scars over the course of the journey earned through battle?

Didn't like that happen in Fable 2?
I seemingly remember beating the game with a pretty scarred up character haha
It would be cool, Having scars like Cullen

Yeah the Fable series seems to be the only video game series that seems to capture the idea of what a true cRPG should be about, while the Fable series does get a lot of things wrong it does have the right idea and there are a lot of great of ideas there (even if they are poorly implemented) and I feel the series deserves more credit than it gets.

No.
I'd only want something like this if I could decide if I had the scars/disfigurements on my own, not because I just gain them automatically over the course of the game. (Akin to using the Mirror of Transformation in DA2 to add scars to my Hawke)

So basically you just want scars to be meaningless facial decorations rather than dynamic signs of character growth and development? That is fine and I know the idea I propose is not going to be liked by those who play RPGs more for their dress up aspects and plastic surgery features than their stories and cant bear seeing anything bad happen to their Mary Sue Handsome McGee character unless they themselves will it but I prefer more dynamic stories where my character can change in unexpected ways.

I wouldnt mind this at all, it would give us an incentive to not go down but id rather it be a choice because i wouldnt want an awesome character of mine to end up looking like a man who survived a mine and also because many/most fans wouldnt want this feature at all

I'd be like the guv'

I'd have an eyepatch that would switch eyes every time I started a new conversation with someone, so that they'd get confused, and I'd act like I had no idea what they were talking about.

It's called main protagonist character development. The main issue I have with the scar idea is that I'll be spending hours getting my character looking the way I want them to. I don't want a giant scar across their eye unless if I put it there.

Ever since Fable I have wanted more rpgs to allow your character to "change" throughout the game depending on what he/she goes through and how your actions can shape them.
Though I also think such changes need to have ways around them (Some scars in Fable looked cool, some made your character look really really messed up), having a magical way to remove scars you don't want and other things is a must imo.

Similar to Mass Effect 2 and the renegade scars... which a paragon should have as well. I still don't get the whole idea if you're a nice person your scars heal faster ![]()
Also that's an idea I can get behind. Although the scarring has to be done in moderation.

*slow claps* Yay insults. That's how you get your points across.
When a character creator is offered to me I create my own personal character what I envision what this character to be. I don't want BioWare saying "You know when you fought that dragon? Yeah... you lost your right leg and now you have to use a metal leg" ![]()
Random scarring is good only for characters that have a fixed appearance if you do it on a created character then what is the point of creating it in the first place if they're going to add random scars to your character?

Coming to think of it, how about every time the character falls in battle to add a scar to his face? This way it will be a choice

The ideas are not mutually exclusive, otherwise why have a character creator at all

You don't see the appeal in having scars and such that you get on your character when fighting certain creatures throughout the world and what happens during that combat?
Imagine out adventuring and you come across a very rare encounter with a werewolf and during your fight it claws into your chest, after this fight you are left with claw marks from this.
To me that is far more of a "satisfying" way to have a scar on my character then simply "picking one at character creation," because instead of it being a simple choice it's something that is now tied into my characters story/adventure while playing and now has meaning and a memory to it.
Of course like I said, scars should be optional, with ways to remove them (Magic you know? Go to an npc or have a mirror like in the Black Emporium where you can pay to remove a specific scar you don't like/want).
To me that is the best way to do it, it allows for people to get scars and also ways for people who don't want them to remove them.

That would be a wonderful implementation. Because it is optional (and awesome).
But they objected to the other poster's lack of point while throwing insults. Your post is great because it provides concrete examples and potential implementations.

My character uses her magic to heal her wounds. She wouldn't get scars from that.

Posté 22 octobre 2014 - 03:23
You must mean dynamic scars, since you can already add scars to your character in the creation menu.. and actually, if they patch in a way to modify character appearance you would be able to technically add scars throughout the game; not in the way you pictured, probably.
Anyway... yeah it would be cool for some people, but really annoying for others. If it was implemented ever, it would be best as an optional toggle.

Or alternatively, if there was an easy, repeatable and moderately inexpensive way to get rid of them, I would be totally on board with that.
