You could also use stasis, and unleash your 50.cal lead fury on the monster :D

Screw Stasis, Lift+Throw Combo ftw!

Lift+trow works on Thresher Maws? Gotta try that, have an Adept to bring to 60 anyway.

I can relate. I am working thru the game, completely foreign to the combat system, barely learning to spacebar/pause and aim(always aiming at the floor when I pause), wondering how I get my companions to use their abilities, working my mouse/keyboard skills to finally solve the easy decryption wheels and then I find myself in this Mako and the big worm. Almost a game breaker for me. I committed to play the game thru.......................once.

I even dislike the save system. I want to replay certain areas in different ways to get a feel for skill/companion combinations. Was it at #134 or save 124? or some save inbetween.

I have realized at this point my companions play the game way better than I do. If I could only get one of them to drive the dam Mako.

GMulryan: Your companions will use their abilities of their own accord. Not necessarily in a SMART way, but they'll use them, so don't worry too much about them.

The easiest way to kill Thresher Maws that I've found it simply to drive into the nest zone until the Maw pops up. Keep your distance from the Maw so it can't hit you with its melee/shockwave attack, but STAY STILL. The Maw will use acid spit attacks to try and hit you at range, but just use the Mako's thrusters to jump over the acid before it hits you. Don't worry if you get hit a few times at first; you'll get the hang of it eventually. Just continue to blast the Maw with cannon fire as you stay in the same spot. If you don't move away, the Maw won't try to burrow up underneath you.

I used to hate the Threshers. It seemed to me they were the hardest enemies in the game. But study them a little...and it pays off.

I think they're a damn sight harder to kill in the Mako. Go on foot and reap the extra XP.

OK...but you have to watch out. Essentially on foot you need to establish the optimum distance; not so far that the dish rag goes back under ground but not so close that you just...die.

NB: the TM does not need to be registered in your targeting reticule for you to inflict damage on the beast; as long as your ammo is going in to it, it does take damage. So, establish the distance, keep firing and then just circle the beast, avoiding the acid (you always know just before the beast spits; the TM kind of pulls itself back a little...) It may take a while but the Maws are predictable and eminently beatable.

Good luck.

Very sage advice Zaxares, I have been practising this jump the blast and was intrigued to find it actually works. What ablast, Nerves of steel and at least then yo can keep a bead on it (or a Get destroyer) but timing is everything. It has given me hope as well.Image IPB

the spit is slow and easily dodgeable. i just sat the mako there and rocked it back and forth while using the turret cannon/mach gun. it was foolproof, unless the thing decided to get close and eat the mako...

I just drive in circles around it while shooting or stay still and try to jump the acid spit.

I recommend stopping if it goes underground. You don't want to drive into it, that insta-kills the Mako...

I have had a real breakthru with this game and not before time cos it was really breaking me up, and bringing out the worst in my temper and causing me to rant and rave and strike out at the game , the Mako in a very immature way.

I finall got the hang of the spacebar (all ction stops you sect and choose your target and let it go(unpause).

In way of trying to mitigate some of my actions I stlll get very jumpy but I decided to start again as a Sentinel and ..........the words to express myself , my feeling of achievment is hard to find.

Idid think that this would be a really hard char to play but once I learnt how the commands are given, wow,

Still not totally smooth sailing but I have not died for 28 hrs, It was simply a matter of getting used to the controls, Not doning much for the other two but the skill is developing apace now, 3 weeks of sheer torture that almost had me give up cept I am very stubborn and it would seem very immature for my years ,

Now, when I finish, I want to play with a char that has singularity.

Interestingly enough in other games I usually go with a Druid not a fighter type.

I myself use the shoot and jump method. Once I learned to just jump over the acid spit while sitting still and shooting Thresher Maws became VERY easy and I never died once. :)
