Can we still start a new game if the Keep server is down?

If yes, what back story choices will we have?

If no, well I can't think of an appropriate question to ask if this is the case!

I believe you can only start a new game with a default world state if the Keep server is down.

Most likely it will be like in DA2.

No Compromise

The Martyr

I think there was another, but can't remember.

However this is why Beta's exist, to allow for testing on how much servcers can handle. this is why ther are updates a lot of days and they keep adding more ppl in. Hopefully there will be minute amount of times that this would affect ppl. Most likely if the Keep service is down, it will be scheduled for mainanence and they let us know through BSN or twitter :)

Are you saying the single-player game exists in "The Cloud" somewhere and we have login to a specific online server to play it?

I believe it will work like this:

You set a default world state in the Keep. When you load up Inquisition, you sync and it downloads this world state.

After this point, you do not need the Keep, unless you wish to change this world state, in which case you must make the new one the default and re-sync. (You can, I believe, store multiple world-states in the Keep - 3-5, I believe - but you only have one 'set' as the default at any time). I believe that if you wish to continue using the world-state you have already sync'ed with Inquisition you don't have to re-sync every time you start a new game, but I am unsure.

Your PC's backstory for the game is designed by you, by making decisions about what happened in the previous two games on an on-line server hosting the Keep. You then export your backstory into DAI.

My question relates to what happens if this process is unavailable.

The Keep seems to be all cloud based. I think the game state you had already selected for Inquisition would be the only one available to you, should you want to start a new game while the Keep is down for maintenance.

You can see it for yourself starting on the 29th with the Open Beta. Right now people participating in the closed beta are barred from providing detailed information due to the NDA.

But there's this great overview to see:

If the server is down you won't be able to access the world states you created but you can still access the default world states provided by the developers and play the game normally from there. I don't believe I am breaking NDA on this as it has been revealed in their keep preview video and talked about by developers but when you create a world you export it to the cloud and is then brought down by your game when you start a game if you so choose. You could export and then import the world state, save it and then start a whole other new game that way if you are concerned with the server going down you won't lose your world state as it has already been imported to your PC or Console, though only for that saved game.

Hope I don't into trouble for saying that

The Keep is NOT a requirement to play DAI. At the very least, there will be a built-in "default" world state from which to start the game. Possibly 2 or 3 world states to choose from, not sure.

Looked it up, the Keep is not a requirement, if you do not or cannot access it the following would apply.

"Players who do not have or choose not to import a world-state into Inquisition will be provided a default "canon" as in Dragon Age II: an "Ultimate Sacrifice" Dalish Warden, Alistair made King, and Hawke a mage who sided with the mages in DA2"

This was taken from the Dragon Age Wiki

Huh?! Of course you can still play the game. The Keep is only there for creating and importing a world state. I suppose, ideally, the last world state you created in the Keep and imported will be in your saves folder. Hopefully. :P

You only need to be connected to the Keep when you start the game. Once it's synced and you start playing, all your plot flags are set and you're good to go.

If the keep is down, you only need to worry if you are trying to start a new game. Any previous saves will not be affected and the game will re-contact the keep to send data back once it is back up.

If you are unlucky enough to be starting your first play-through while the keep is down, just keep an eye on the Dragon Age Keep twitter

I'd call the Origin app DRM.

The Keep is more like an online tool that you may choose to use it or not.

If you pirate the game, then it serves you right that you cannot get the world state from the keep.

So no, it isn't DRM

So a workaround for this, if you want to create multiple world states and have them accessible if Keep is offline when you want to do a new game, is to create several saves in Inquisition with alternate Inquisitors so you can access the world states you want to whenever you wish to start your new game--with one of those 'new' inquisitors you pre-made.

If that is possible?

Geez, considering the keep server is going to be swamped 11/17, I wonder if I'll even be able to use my own world states for my first playthrough.

Andrastes ******! I hadn't even thought of that!

Still, the Keep web app is what you use to create the world state. Once you've created it, its synced to your EA/Bioware account which DA:I connects to when you first log in, much as DAO and 2 did. Don't recall that ever being down although I did sometimes have am issue with ME3 multiplayer when Origin played up.

You don't need to be on 25/7 to use it. It's there just to make a save export for dai. Once it's done you will no longer need it.

It will update to reflect your DA: I choices.

Basically set the world state you want to be exported. Start on that one, quit as soon as possible and repeat for each save.

So once those states are set up, I need only log into my EA account, not the Keep to access them for 'importing' into my game?  Awesome.  I thought I had to open Keep itself or something.  I'm in Beta and already have the saves i want for use so won't require anything more till 11/17

I don't know who you're gonna call, but I'm gonna call EA to get my money back.
