The best part of Halo for me is Red vs Blue.
but these are the BioWare forums so even with all the butthurt over the ending I imagine Mass Effect is going to win by a lot.

Must we turn all video games into a bloodsport?
Can't video games just get along?
I think this all started when Mass Effect asked Halo out on a date and was rejected.

Incomparable.
Too many factors that they cannot be compared with a reasonable amount of logic.
It would be like comparing a carrot to a glass of milk.

Which is better!
That's kind of a broad question, there are many elements that I like about both franchises, and several that I don't like, not to mention that one is a Third Person RPG and the other is a Firs Person Shooter.
Now if I was to boil the question down to story appreciation of the two game series, then I would go with Mass Effect. Aside from the widely different ways to role-play in Mass Effect vs. a faceless soldier, and the variety of choices that one can choose from vs. run over here and shoot a bunch of aliens in the face.
Another reason why I prefer ME to Halo, is that Halo; apart from Halo 2 (the best game of the series); is all about humanity and how super special/awesome we are; its boring. This Humans are Special trope is present in ME as well, but it is nowhere near the level that Halo goes; as of Halo 4, humanity is the ultimate Mary Sue of the setting. I prefer my science fiction to at least try and explore the other forms of life in the universe, not go on and on about how great and totally awesome us humans are.
Still, nothing has been able to match Halo's seamless blend of foot and vehicular combat, everything feels fluid and balanced whether you are running through a close quarters gun battle or racing around the map with a buddy in a Warthog, pulling off Dukes of Hazard jumps. ![]()
EDIT: Which seems odd when Destiny's PvP is absolutely horrible.

It's all down to personal preference but I don't understand why people come out with this "you can't compare the games!!!11" you can because they're both games in a science fiction setting with similar factors (i.e story, gameplay and characters) and these things, at the very least, can be compared. I think Halo has better gameplay over Mass Effect but I think the stories of both draw with ME being more involving and immersive and Halo having more quality due to it being shorter.
Of course you can say "they're different games" but you can still compare gameplay, story and characters since none of these are exclusive to any genre and first person shooting gameplay is certainly something that has been used in RPG's (i.e Deus Ex) and could have worked just as well in ME perhaps.
I don't understand people saying some games can't be compared to one another. It's even worst when you get two RPG's being compared (i.e Dragon Age Vs TES) and some smart ass comes out and says "they're diffrent games!!111" but the gap between those two games are smaller than Halo and ME because both are RPG's with leveling, classes, quests etc which can be compared.
Edit:
@Vortex13
I'm the opposite, I thought Mass Effect has more of the "humanity are special" trope especially with how fast they're spreading through the galaxy to the point where one man/woman can make them the sole leaders of all other species in the council and then goes onto save the entire galaxy. In comparison, I find Halo is about a genetically enhanced human rather than humanity as a whole who has vital help from both an alien (The Arbiter) and an AI (Cortana). Humanity in the Halo universe is also less advanced and less numbered than the Covenant species and lost all of the worlds they had colonized when the Covenant invaded and only started making a comeback when Master Chief (aka Jesus Christ) woke up and started kicking ass (another theme both series share: Space Jesus). In ME, humanity did fine before Shepard and new games won't even be about him/her but about some other miracle human from the ever expanding and ultimate galactic species.

Mass Effect was on the same level of awesomeness as Halo until ME3, now it's Halo by a significant margin, but then again they are both still a trillion times better than Destiny

Yeah Mass Effect does have elements of the Humans are Special trope, and I did find how quickly humanity advanced in power through galactic government despite them being newcomers to be annoying, but Halo's (specifically Halo 4's) treatment of humanity was way more Mary Sue-ish (IMO).
Halo 4 Spoilers:
I loved the Arbiter in Halo 2, and the second game's depiction of the Covenant's side of things, but come Halo 3, and the Arbiter is reduced to a bit part, and in Halo 4, all aliens are bad guys again. At least in ME you can see and interact with aliens in a way that doesn't only involve shooting them.

These games are nothing alike. Personally I prefer single player experiences so I'm taking Mass Effect easily.

What Halo games I've played (which are 1 and 3) didn't really interest me at all - I prefer many other sci-fi FPSs to it.
So even though I don't like ME near as much as I used to, it still easily wins this contest for me.
Milk > Carrot's
Also this. Seriously, who other than rabbits likes carrots more than milk?

But. Games, ME is the only contender. Books, Halo is the only contender.

I love them both. Top 2 gaming franchises of all time for me. But I'd say Mass Effect for story, Halo for gameplay. And in terms of cinematics, well, just let me leave this here:

Hmmm. I love both series to death so this is hard. I've been playing Halo since CE back in 01, on the other hand I do love ME's story as much if not more. I think for me I would have to decide between two things. If I could enter both game worlds as their own reality which would I rather be: S.P.E.C.T.R.E or S.P.A.R.T.A.N? I think for me I would have to choose spartan. So I guess I'd ultimately have to go with...........

Well this is kinda outside the scope of this thread, but I have been playing the Long War mod for XCOM: Enemy Within (It's awesome BTW) and I would have to wonder which would win in a straight up fight:
An Atlas Mech:
or
A MEC Trooper:
I guess as a nod to Halo I can include their Mantis Mech too.

Mass Effect is, as Halo utterly disappointed me by allowing me to be the Arbiter and not letting me fight the UNSC.

Mass Effect got me into the space opera genre in the first place. I've just finished the first Mass Effect now I hunger for more good stories in the space opera genre. I played Halo long before I played Mass Effect.
