Playing a Chantry Zealot.

I was thinking of doing this for my next playthrough with a Human noble,mage or city elf.

 

Has anybody else tried this, how hard is it? how good/bad will it end up?

 

i can't think of many major situations other than siding with Templars, Killing Connor and uhh, much else?

Depends on how you are in real life I suppose. I thought it was a blast with my Human Noble Warrior. Who wrestled bears in his spare time and wooed Leliana in the other times. The world was a far better place in his wake. (Even if silly Hawke disagreed, that bloodmage sympathizer. :C)

 

Remember to help Brother Burke spread the chant of Light. Tell Zerlinda and baby to join him. Kill the false Andraste and her followers. 

Consider killing the Dalish, for they are heathen and harbor mages in their midst. The werewolves can be killed later, when they have served their purpose with the Darkspawn. Don't be tempted by the Anvils blood magic. And get all the blessings!

Hmm... Well, you can help Brother Burkel open a chantry in Orzammar.

If you're a HN, you can have a small discussion of religion with Mother Mallol in Castle Cousland, so there's a chance to go very pro-chantry.

If you're a mage, you can pray with that crazy girl in the tower's chantry.

Grab various blessings (Ostagar, Lothering, etc.).

Donate to the chantry in Lothering.

You have the choice to make via Mother Hannah's "holy" amulets in Redcliffe. You can either convince her to lie and tell the knights that the amulets offer the Maker's real protection, or you can agree with her and tell the knights no. Hard to say which is more pro-chantry.

Definitely go pro-Templar, which means you have to kill Connor, as the chantry wouldn't support blood magic, even though I think Isolde has it coming.

Don't destroy the Urn and share Andraste's Ashes with the world. Make sure to kill "Andraste" the dragon.

 

That's all I can think of at the moment. I've never done a Chantry zealot before. The most I've ever done is just a regular person with some measure of faith. Any more than that, and I think I'd choke (due to my extremely religious upbringing and having similar stuff force-fed to me for entirely too long). :)

I set this up on one of my future world states. I played it as a human noble who looked down on everything non human and magic. The trick is you have to really have no sympathy. In the story in my head it works a lot better in theory than practice. The goal at the end of the game was to make the world better for humans who were non mage.

 

Kill the mages at the broken circle.

Broker Peace with the Dalish and were wolves 

Put Harrowmont in charge and destroy the Anvil because he is weak and isolationist and has no power.

Also don't go through the ritual with Morrigan because it is bad magic - send Logain to die here for a sense of justice and redemption. 

 

DA2 makes it a lot easier to swing this because a few characters will back you (Fenris and Aveline) and most of the story-line is divided into mage friendly or not.

A warrior seems like it'd be the most "righteous". A mage should probably be ashamed of themselves and be tranquilised or something, while a rogue just seems too... underhanded. Plus you get the obvious templar spec.

 

Sign up with alistair and leliana obviously, antagonise morrigan out of the party (but not before you slay the witch of the wilds, of course). Wynne is unfortunately the next most pious character, shame you have to kill her if you plan on slaughtering the mages. Though you probably wouldn't want an abomination in the party anyway. That makes choosing the 4th party member a bit difficult. Maybe the dog? The heathen sten should stay in his cage, and you probably don't want a drunk dwarf or elven assassin in the party either.

 

Storywise there are the pretty obvious things. Side with the chantry/templar wherever possible, which makes the urn and circle quests pretty obvious. Connor would have to die, since you can't let a blood mage live, and you destroyed the circle. Destroy the anvil in Orzammar, and siding with the old conservative guy over the young progressive one seems appropriate for a religious zealot. Dalish seems like a tough choice, you're either siding with a blood mage or a spirit and werewolves. Maybe kill Witherfang with Zathrian, then kill him too?

They can be, but canonically they aren't. Unless you're okay with having a headcanon that you know to contradict the reality of the events of later games, you should weigh that in your decision.

As a warrior, pick a Templar(Magic exists to serve man)

Accept the blessings of every priest in the game.

Kill the Dalish

Refuse Morrigan's aid

Create the Orzammar Chantry

Help Zerlinda move into the Chantry

Kill Connor

Kill Jowan

Why kill the Dalish, though? The Cousland title was elevated from bann to teyrnir for their leadership in driving the werewolves from Ferelden during the Black Age, and it seems odd to me that any son or daughter of Highever would choose lycanthropes over heathens... and wouldn't a good Andrastrian proselytize and attempt to convert the Dalish, rather than slaughtering them? That is, as I understand it, a major tenet of the faith.

A chantry zealot could easily kill the Dalish, because they're deemed heretics and heathens and one could even argue that they're poaching and occasionally obstruct trade.

 

Not saying those are actually right things to say, but in terms of roleplaying they work.

 

But yeah, when you also have the Werewolf aspect to go off of, it's not quite as great. You don't have as many chances to really pin down your Andrastianism in zealotous fashion in DAO. Annul the Circle, be a Templar, help the Chantry priests, accept blessings, create one in Orzammar. Oh, and kill Caladrius, for he's a Magister of the Imperium. Also kill any mages you come across.

 

Most of that's not being a zealot though. Being a zealot to me would entail more hardcore things.
