I think Inon Zur did a few wonderfully great songs (Leliana's song, High Fantasy.), but the regular soundtrack for battles and walking through towns was very forgettable. Trevor Morris doesn't seem to be having that problem.
Could you link a few of the DA:I battle and town songs please? I have only heard the main theme and one combat song and didn't think any more were released, but you seem to indicate there is more to compare with the previous soundtracks.
And while I like the main theme a lot, I personally find the DA:O theme more epic. I would also have liked to hear more of the DA theme in the new main theme, but I guess it's understandable that a new composer wants to have a fresh start and not be bound to someone else's work too much.
OP, where did you get the complete soundtrack for Dragon Age Inquisition? I must have it so I can make a determination of which soundtrack is better. Then I can make a non-rash decision as to who is the better composer.
What in the soundtrack for DA:I made you feel Inon Zurr work was superior composer for Dragon Age?
Because when I hear the main theme, I hear the same tune repeated over and over again in different pitches. As for his combat music, I couldn't care less about combat music.
um...yes he did.
I looked it up and i was wrong but his work was rushed and i did not think it was him
Is it okay if I liked aspects of both?
*Ducks*
It was a similar thing when they brought Clint Mansell on for ME3; he brought a lot of his signature to the soundtrack and I personally loved it (love him), but it was a different mood from the previous games so I could understand the disappointment others may have felt. Here again, I personally like what I've heard from the Inquisition soundtrack so far, so I'm not really 'missing' Inon Zur, though I did love his work as well. It's just different is all.
I liked Zur's soundtrack. I was sad at first when I heard they replaced him. The songs with vocals were all amazing, IMO, and at least in DA:o, there were a couple other tracks I liked a lot.
But the new guy's main theme is better than any of the non-vocal tracks Zur did, and in the twitch they did on Monday for skyhold, there was a part with some pretty awesome singing. So I'm optimistic that it was the right choice. But obviously, can't really judge until I hear both complete soundtracks.
Hmm.. To be honest, I like the new stuff, alot.
DAO music was more memorable than DA2 IMO. Zur had indeed some unique tracks I'll never forget.
But do I miss him? Not really. To each their own.
Outside of DA:O's main theme which was amazing, I can't think of any other memorable music from the DA games. They did the job fine, but they weren't anything special IMO.
I don't mind them giving a new artist the opportunity to do DA:I. I've liked what I've heard so far anyway.
Honestly speaking, there were only two or three tracks in the previous games that were really catchy, the rest seemed a bit forgettable to me.
I think it all really depends on the game, though. I find Inon Zurr's work really fitting for the previous games, especially for DA:O.
The atmosphare in Origins was kind of mysterious and foreign - Inon Zurr captured that super good in his music, because you couldn't hear sooo many instruments at once and there were these iconic dragon age-vocals.
I am content with his work in the previous games.
Like I said, however, there were only a few songs that really standed out and helped to change the atmosphare in the games. I don't know, the orchestra and everything just sounded so... Poor sometimes.
When I first played the game and the Battle at Ostagar-sequence came, i felt so disappointed. The melody of the track was absolutly awesome, but the performing orchestra was just... I don't know, it just sounded as if something was missing.
It's really a shame, because the melodies in the games are really well done, it's just the way it is performed, that is rubbing me the wrong way :/
Trevor Morris surpised me here in a positive way. Everything sounded really epic so far, and the theme of DAI was so catchy, I hummed it all day after hearing it at E3.
I tried to play that track on the piano too, and my whole family got an earworm afterwards, even though they've never heard of the game before.
I am really glad that you can finally hear lots of strings in a dragon age game.
Say what you want to say about the story, characters, and locations about Mass Effect, but the soundtrack was nearly half of what made the game so great. I cannot say the same thing about DAO and DA2 which had pretty tame soundtracks. It is looking like DAI is actually going to have a soundtrack to match the identity of the DA universe and atmosphere.
I really liked Inon Zur's stuff in DAO... But I love the main theme for DAI. .
Inon Zur. I wish him back. His music always touches me and it makes me to always go back to listen it after so many years. Trevor is ok. I like his other stuffs much more but for now, Inquisition music is quite questionable for me. I got bored of the main theme quite fast and it does not stuck like something to go back and listen to when I don't play game. I think it would be neat that Trevor and Zur worked together on inquisition. I prefer more compositors to work on one game. And yeah btw since they hired new compositor I expected they gonna make video about the music of Inquisition to give us maybe better insight? I think Inon Zur done that with Aubrey Ashburn about Dragon Age Origins music and it was great.

Oh and don't let me start talking about Skyhold's dramatic drums...
The dramatic drums are not the music for Skyhold, so please chillax on that bit.
There are pieces I like from the previous two games, but so far I also like what I hear from Trevor. There were themes I really didn't like from Inon, but he did melancholy very well.

Dragon Age, even the stuff I don't like, has always had a distinctive sound. There are themes I don't like from both franchises, and themes that I really like a lot.
To each their own, but I really disagree with this sentiment.
I'm kind of torn about this. On the one hand I felt like Inon brought something really amazing to the soundtrack. I felt like there was a hint of emotion/sadness in his soundtrack for DAO that I hadn't really heard in a videogame before. Plenty of games have had epic soundtracks that get you pumped but to me his brought a completely different tone to the game. And I definitely think that's missing from the music we've heard thusfar. But on the other hand I think Trevor is bringing something to the game that is truly commendable and fits with what Bioware is trying to do. Hearing the main theme played live via Cello definitely sold me. Can I say that I have a real appreciation for the work Inon did but at the same time I don't think I'll miss him?
For Inquisition they could have used Inon's old work and remixed it. I would have preferred the old tracks re-done from the new game.

Did a dev or an official source say this? I'm not aware of this news.

No offense to Inon but over the course of 2 games he's managed to make perhaps 2-3 tracks that I like a bit. Most of them are just so forgetable. Trevor has already managed to get equal with Inon and that's before the release of the game.
