I'll miss Inon Zur, but that doesn't mean I won't like Trevor Morris. What we're heard of him so far (Other than the "Infamous Drums of Skyhold... which aren't a thing thankfully) but Inon Zur has nostalgia. Elves at the Mercy of Men, Nature of the Beast, Leliana's Song, Ferelden at War, I really liked his music.
And I must have listened to "Qunari on the Rise" and "Hawke Family Theme" a million times when they let those two songs out before the release of DA2. He really was great, and his music fit the world perfectly.
But as they said, they're going for a more cinematic/large scale theme, so Inon Zur's music wouldn't fit so well anymore.
I miss Inon Zurr...

I love Inon, but to me the new main theme seems really fitting somehow. Like a true, unique embodiment of the game, which is what it should be. Now, let's be honest - there will never be a true sequel to Origins. Already Inquisition feels like it's own game, and the departure from Origins's style proves that. Change isn't necessarily a bad thing, it's just... different. I feel for everyone who misses Inon Zur's special musical style, but to be honest, change is coming, and Zur's music is but a relic now. A wonderful, nostalgic relic, but a relic all the same.
tl:dr (though I only wrote a paragraph) - Zur was great, but unfortunately has no place in the new way of things.

I like Morris more so far.
So long as they bring Aubrey Ashburne's voice back, I'll be content.

Could you link a few of the DA:I battle and town songs please? I have only heard the main theme and one combat song and didn't think any more were released, but you seem to indicate there is more to compare with the previous soundtracks.
This.
There's some guys here saying Morris is better. There's two tracks to go on and I'm certain that they're simply trailer music so I don't think anyone should be making that claim. In fact no one can make any claim for that reason because no one here has heard the whole OST from Inquisition. I liked most of the tracks from Origins but I can't say the same for Inquisition because I haven't heard the full track yet. If I like just as many songs with Inquisition's OST, only then can I personally say Trevor's done a good job for me.
Inon Zur is one of my favourite game soundtrack composers next to Jeremy Soule, Kirill Pokrovsky and Oscar Araujo so yes, I miss his music too (apart from his music in DA2 but it was rushed along with everything else about the game) but if Trevor's delivered the same quality music we've had from the trailers of Inquisition then I think we'll get great music like Origins provided. Personally I would have liked Bioware to have worked with Jeremy Soule again, his music in Neverwinter Nights was epic and I may not like TES but it always has great music from this man (in fact Morrowind's OST has some tracks somewhat similar to NWN and they're just brilliant).

Agreed. Not sure if she'll be back but the bard we heard a clip of from Skyhold sounds FANTASTIC.

I'm hardly an expert when it comes to music, but I'd be lying if I said DA:O and DA2 had memorable soundtracks. Aside from the opening theme, the rest is pretty forgettable. Everything I've heard for DA:I, on the other hand, has been fantastic.

I miss him a bit. Inon Zur's music was different and had a distinct sound. I felt it really gave Dragon Age character, even if it wasn't entirely memorable.
There's still more to be heard from Trevor. I'm not in love with the main theme. I feel like it could be plugged into any epic fantasy. That said, I am in love with the "Combat 2" theme they played at the beginning of the skyhold twitch stream. Inon Zur's combat themes from DAO all had something of a "horror" feel to them, which was fitting, but I love a good rhythm track while I'm battling. Interested to hear what else he's got.
Frankly I wish Jeremy Soule could just do music for everyone ever.

Yeah, Inon Zur's music fit perfectly in terms of some of the songs. Combat was bland but Hhardly anyone can do combat music good. Only a few and I mean very few games do I remember the combat music. One of which was kingdom hearts.
Anyways I dont think Trevor Morris is bad, its even alright, but nowhere near the level of Inon Zur for this type of genre. Zur's music was amazing, given he isn't rushed. And no, Change isn't always better and to claim Zur's music is a relic and doesnt belong in new age is a ridiculous statement.

You cannot use Trailer music to determine if a composure is good. None of his music is used for them. Regardless, as someone said above, the main theme feels very bland, and I feel it could be inserted into any generic fantasy game and you wouldn't notice the difference. That could never happen with Inon's music. You knew you was playing a Dragon Age game when you heard Inon's music.

Eh I like do Trevor, but he is a bit safe. From what I've seen so far his tracks are pretty generic, good but kinda boring and I can't help but feel that I've heard them before. Inon Zurr on the other hand has a unique style that gave DAit's own musical identity, so yeah I prefer Inon Zurr even if he misses the mark occasionally.

...each to their own on that, because I probably wouldn't be able to tell. Other than the vocal tracks by Aubrey Ashburne, a significant chunk of DA:O and DA2's soundtrack was pretty standard RPG fare just as much as Morris' supposedly is from the tiny bit we've heard, IMO.
There wasn't really anything in DA that stood up to Inon Zur's old work.
I have loads of respect for him as a composer. Stuff like the above still gives me chills. Something was just...off about him in DA. Not much stuck for me.

I'm going to actually wait for the game to come out and listen to the soundtrack first. They'll both probably have their strengths and weaknesses as composers. I'm looking forward to the final product. There is probably going to be a track or two that I won't be enamored with (happens in every game I play,) but I think I'll be happy with the overall result.

I thought Inon Zur was pretty mediocre for most of his tracks in DA:O/DA2. Some were good, and a few were memorable, but most I found were just forgettable.

Inon Zur is a fantastic musician and I love the music he did for DAO and DA2. However, what I've heard of DAI's soundtrack so far has absolutely blown me away. Inon Zur is great but in this case I prefer Trevor Morris.

Exactly. And tbh, I liked Elves at the Mercy of Men, Leliana's Song, and the Hawe Family Theme. Literally everything else was static at best or garbage at worst. Everything I've heard from DA:I is so much better than even those, that it's not even funny.

You know, I never said change is better. That's just putting words in my mouth. What I said was that change is coming, regardless of how some of us feel about it. I personally don't mind this change. Apparently, you do. And that's okay, but unfortunately irrelevant at this point.
Also, I never claimed that Inon Zur's music doesn't belong in "the new age". I only meant that, in my opinion, his music no longer belongs in the new Dragon Age.
But no, go ahead and ridicule my previous statements. It doesn't make a difference in the end, because according to a bunch of replies to this thread, most people seem to favor Morris anyway, and therefore I assume he'll be staying for a good long while.

He's the Grandmaster of ambient music. I can only hope DAI's ambience is as good as Guild Wars 2 was.

I don't. His music was bland and forgettable. Especially during combat. The only track that stood out for me was the song from the menu screen/camp in Origins. I can't remember a single track from Dragon Age 2.
Morris' music feels so much better and more consistent with the tone of the series.

I can't bring myself to care for the new soundtracks even if they are more energetic.
