I love the new music. That Inquisition theme makes me feel nostalgic and I haven't even played the game yet! All the music I've heard so far conjures some strong emotions, and just sounds beautiful. I honestly can't say the same for the Inon Zur stuff. A few bits were good, like the Calennhad Docks or party camp themes, but on the whole I was unmoved.

Can't say I agree with OP at all. From the few tracks I've heard so far, the music for DAI is amazing!

What I've heard of the DAI soundtrack pales in comparison to DAO. The DAI theme really isn't great. I felt nothing when I heard it. Maybe there are better tracks. I certainly hope so. I don't want to have to turn off the music because it's just bland. -_-

I kind of agree. I mean, I don't dislike the DA:I music, it's well made and fits the game, but it just feels a little...generic. The main theme for example is a suitably epic piece, but it's pretty much the same as every other "epic fantasy theme". The earlier stuff just seemed to have more character to me. That hint of melancholy in much of Inon's work set it apart from the norm and really made it stand out.

Honestly, the only music in DA:O that stuck out to me as particularly good at capturing the mood of the scene was romance theme.

And while I really do like that music, I couldn't even remember the main theme of Origins until I watched the links posted at the beginning of this thread. So far prefer Inquisition's music.

All I know is that I hope the soundtrack won't solely consists of heavy violin stringing, choir yodeling, drum beating, trumpets clumsily blowing bombastic extravaganza like your average fantasy soundtrack or pretty anything Zimmer has composed.

Zur's material for Dragon Age wasn't entirely memorable but there was one track I really liked a lot. And that was.. Elves at The Mercy of Men (I even love the title -- It's excellent)

Mind you, the track does use violins to a large extent but without going bonkers and overboard -- I feel there's tense and at ease atmosphere in it.

Honestly, given the plot of the game, the fact that this is the end of the world. Inon's melancholy would fit THIS game better than the previous entries in this series, imo. This music is too "upbeat", it does not convey properly the tone of the story.

Inon Zur has a few good tracks, but he has never impressed me. To me, Trevor Morris' music sounds much better.

I loved Inon zur's work in the previous games, even though DA 2 having less memorable musics compared to Origins, it also had some cool tracks
But Trevor's Morris work sounds very captivating for me,the tracks we've known so far works like a preview in how intense the story will be...

Oh dear, those two tracks of DAI are way to bombastic for my tastes.

Needles to say, the previous composer.

Although I don't find the music from Origins or DA II to be bad (main theme for Origins I find to be really good) it didn't really make much of an impression to me. It served its purpose of being there. But thinking back on the games I can't rellay recall much of the music.

Inon Zur isn't a bad composer though, his music for Icewind Dale II was decent and the music Throne of Bhaal I found to be mostly good.

Haven't heard anyhting really from Trevor Morris and more or less nothing from Inquisiton, so I don't really have an opinion yet.

Otherwise I like what Jeremy Soule did in Icewind Dale, Neverwinter Nights and The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind

Michael Hoenigäs music for Baldur's Gate: Shadows of Amn was really good.

Kirill Pokrovsky's music for the Divinity series was good too.

Adam Skorupa and Krzysztof Wierzynkiewicz did great music for The Witcher... while their music for Assasins of Kings was quite forgettable to me.

Also liked Jack Wall's music for Jade Empire and Mass Effect 2.

Inon Zur without a doubt. He has more versatility with instrumentation that is quintessential of a fantasy-medieval ambiance. A lot of memorable tunes from Origins: Camp music, Lothering, Lake Calenhad, Dalish Camp, Grey Warden theme, etc, to name but a few. Inon Zur's score is epic, for lack of a better word, but it is by no means to me, in any way immersive with the Dragon Age world. Morris's heavy use of percussion, ostinato and rhythm (via strings) sounds too modern, it can almost fit into Call of Duty games when you think about it. Moreover, Morris's score seeks to create more of an overall soundscape which inevitably belittles melodies that. This also happened to the Total War series, when you compare Rome 2 scores with previous Total War games or the Elder Scrolls for that matter. Not sure if I like such shift in game scores. I am sure Morris is a great composer, but for me, Inon Zur's score was crucial in making Origins a truly masterpiece and Dragon Age 2 salvageable.

I was not impressed with Inquisition's music.  I found the ambient music and the instrumentals forgettable, and the vocals helped me find my mute button.  "Forced" would be the word I'd use to describe most of the vocal songs in game.  They're horrible.

I never tought i would say this but no, i don't miss Inon Zurr. For some reason Inon Zurr never did usual god tier job with DA.

While ME2 OTS was, off the charts, hands down most epic thing evar, DA:O was more like "meh". Trevor Morris did such perfect job that now he's (almost) at same level with Inon Zurr or Jeremy Soule. Still Jeremy Soule is still the head of the Pantheon, so shut up.

During Return to Ostagar DLC, when you find king Cailan, they used a beautiful piece of music that was the party camp theme with the main theme mixed together. It was just beautiful and touching

DA:I music was nice. But I think in DA:O was unforgettable.

I think all soundtracks were appropriate to their games.  I think Inquisition benefited from Trevor Morris overall as it needed a bit more militaristic feel, not as much high fantasy.  But this is not to denigrate Inon Zur's work in the first two.  I think for romance Inon Zur was a bit better than Trevor Morris.  They both have their strengths.

The soundtrack would be fine if it actually played.

The entire game is eerily silent, save one or two scenes which feature the main theme.

I can appreciate both.  The Dragon Age series is one of the few games where I'll keep the background music on.

ask me a year ago and i would have shouted in favor of Inon, But not anymore. Trevor's music feels more grand scale, fitting to the overall feel of the game. Both Inon and Trevor have strong pieces in the series, from the top of my head.

Dragon Age: Origins Theme and Lelianna's Song

Dragon Age 2  Hawke Family

Inquisition: Dawn Will Come, Titles theme, Return to Skyhold.

I hope Bioware keeps Trevor for the next installment of Dragon Age.

That is Dragon age Music to me. Inon Zur is imo the only one who can make Dragon Age music. Inquisitions ost was hollow and lacked character. I do not approve.

Apart from the tavern music, i dislike pretty much all of DA:I soundtrack, yes including the dawn will come. But bard is simply brilliant.

Inon set the mood for entire game for me. I loved going back to camp because of the music. I could spend very long time in CC because of it. DA:I soundtrack left me empty. Also, the dawn will come reminds me to much of this:

I keep seeing his face..
