I miss Michael Hoening myself, the composer for Baldur's Gate one and two but I like Inquisition's music... when you get to hear it its extremely good but honestly all the composers bioware has used are good as is the music or at least not bad.

I like them both. They had different games to design around. For instance. Inquisition had voiced protag... Can't have music that overshadows the character or distracts the player during an important bit of dialog. Where in Origins you get these pauses in conversation where the protag does nothing... You just read & pick responses. And so music can fill those pauses & carry the player emotionally through something that otherwise might be awkward or dull. The music in each game compliments the gameplay where it can best. The hub worlds also a major change, music would fill that a different way because the stretches without combat or interaction are that much more random & potentially lengthy.

So far I like both. There was a stragen drum bit when I first enter Skyhold but apart from that the music is good.

The idea of putting the drum track as Skyhold's theme is pretty atrocious. That alone puts Inon Zur above, besides talent really.

I preferred the Origins soundtrack--evocative without being intrusive --didn't care for DA2's. I like this theme, but it doesn't move me the same way the Origins one did. The tavern songs are, for the most part, excellent, but there simply isn't enough in game music to judge.

I'd prefer Inon Zurr, myself, but the fact that he didn't do this soundtrack would seem to indicate some kind of parting of ways and perhaps, creative differences. I suspect that wishing for Inon Zur to return is a bit like wishing Brent Knowles would return, although not as germane to the end result of the game. (I do, in fact, wish that bygones could be bygones and Brent Knowles could be enticed to return)

I prefer the Inquisition soundtrack and I think Trevor Morris did an amazing job with it. Don't get me wrong I really really  loved Leliana's song and the main theme in Origins (I still hear them to this day, more like every day honestly) but almost every track in Inquisition sounds amazing to me and really fitting to the point it was used.

The combat music is awesome, the dragon fight music, the siege of adamant, the western approach theme, the inquisition marches theme I could go on and on about Inquisition's soundtrack while I only really remember maybe 3 songs of Origins. But of course that's just me.

I have one thing against Trevor Morris, only one thing - no nice Haven/Skyhold music. Camp from DA:O and Hawke's Estate from DAII were very, very nice, especially the first one.

A lot of Inon Zur's vocal tracks were fueled by Aubrey Asburn. Without her, he wouldn't have done it good.

DAO has a few vocals, music pieces which are nice but I'm more for DAI.

I certainly don't miss Inon Zur. Nothing against him, but I find the score in this game to be immensely stronger all around.

This isn't Skyhold theme, but the War Table theme (where it makes sense) If you hear it throughout Skyhold, that's typically a bug caused by fast-travelling to another area without 'manually' leaving the War Room first.

on topic, while I like DAO soundtrack a lot this new one also brings plenty of good tracks to the table.

I don't agree at all, new music is better.

Exactly this.

I feel that Morris' soundtrack, while impressive, sounds like it could have been from any big Hollywood movie and lacks anything to separate it from 100 other sountracks. Inon Zur's, on the other hand, was far more unique and distinctive.

Also, keep in mind that Trevor Morris isn't the composer of the tavern songs. It is Raney Shockne.

Same, neither was perfect but i found both to be excellent.

The one thing this thread shows is music appreciation can be very subjective! :)

I rather liked the drums but then I've always liked the sound of epic drums, then I also like fete and drums and medieval music but to each their own. Can't make everyone happy with music given people's different tastes.

I'm sure you are in this smaller group. ;)

EDIT:

People, before you say that Inon Zur was bad... listen to this first:

Sounds familiar? 0:57 - 1:25
