Agreed. There are three tracks that I remember: the title theme, Leliana's song, and the camp theme. The common thread here that made them stand out isn't just Inon Zur: it was Aubrey Ashburn as well. By himself, I don't feel Zur made very memorable tracks at all, with the exception of Hawke's theme in DA2.
Yup I just feel the soundtracks in both games did not really leave an impression on me like DAI. The title screen with the mages and templars walking to Haven along with the song and since we know what is going to happen to the building they are walking to brings a new perspective to the song, well for me personally. Plus the song guardians of the past for DAI is bloody awesome.
I agree that all three scores seems to have a different character, but as with the game quality goes the music quality: the second one was the weakest link with the less memorable tunes.
Nevertheless I really like the hammering sound of the Deep Roads in DA:O:
That Inquisitior theme leaves me a bit worried to be honest. I was counting on the soundtrack to be fantastic, but now it seems that the empty epicness and overuse of noisy percussion was never a composer problem, but more like bioware's directives. That's certainly not the kind of soundtrack Dragon Age needs in my opinion.
Still having high expectations for it anyway, since I've liked Trevor Morris' work so far.

It would be even worse if BioWare thought this new direction was best for the franchise. We'll see how the entire soundtrack shapes up. At best, some of the soundtracks will be more Dragon Age in sound. At worst, nothing is similar and perhaps BioWare will go back to their roots with future games.

I love Aubrey Ashburn's voice in this soundtrack but I found it overused "noisy percussion" as you said. The begining was super, but the middle part annoys me.
The more I think about it, the more I'm just not a fan of the Inquisitor's theme. There's nothing wrong with the track per se, I just don't think it works as a leitmotif. It's too inconsistent - it works far more as a theme for the game, frankly.
It seems to be BioWare's modus operandi now to change composers; first ME now DA.
The difference, in my opinion, between the two composers: Zur's music you feel, Morris' you hear.
I would rather feel.
Yes, Zur made me feel mad when he ruined the title track with a uninteresting bombastic end, a piece which starts out so beautifully. Then with his memorable Dwarven theme, memorable because I hate it. I actually turn off the music when I'm goofing around in Orzammar. The man (Zur) can do melancholy like nobody's business, but anything action-y - nope. It's hard to reconcile the beauty he writes for the elves with the rest of his compositions. There are more examples, but I think I've made my point.
I was ready for another composer, and this one made me feel excited for the new game.
I prefer Trevor Morris. I was sick on Inon Zur, i clamored on to Bioware to move on from him for years... his stuff got painfully generic, i can't remember a single song in DA2. Not even the main theme. DA:O all I remember is maybe 3 themes.
IMO his big problem was it was all too interchangable. Any theme from Icewind Dale II would have been right at home at Dragon Age and vice versa.
The future of the DA franchise and the fans goodwill was at stake, better to take the risk and go with someone like Trevor Morris who delivers consistent quality.
Looks like their gamble will pay off. The music is good. I understand the die hards but while they say 'it aint right for dragon age' this thread is evidence that a great many will disagree.
I didn't mind Inon, he did a great job. Some of the tracks were too 'over-the-top' and should have been more 'quiet' like the DA:O theme, IMO. Hated when the trumpets / horns came on I was like 'bahhhh back to camp theme' lol.
Trevor Morris.... is a God. Listening to some of the music bits in the gameplay vids on Twitch and on youtube, just sends me chills. Or, even sends me into a trance / meditation.

I'd actually argue this thread has been rather split on the issue. If anything it's incredibly divisive and controversial. Certainly some like the new direction, but plenty of others have voiced their concerns that they aren't so keen to it. I'd also like to reiterate that no one is making the argument that Morris' work isn't good, but rather it does not pay homage or sound anything resembling previous Dragon Age tracks. That is the issue as some of us actually did like Zur's unique and emotional take on Dragon Age. We can argue how many of the tracks were memorable or not, but I'll take quality over quantity any day personally.
The OSTs for DAO and DA2 where pretty bad, only a few memorial tracks. DAI on the other hand has amazing tracks from what we have heard so far that destroy all the past music.
Inon Zur's Redcliff music all the way for me even if it sounds a little bit crappish without nowadays fancy smensy sounds/virtual quality instruments but hey it is from 2009, right? It tells the story, the other one? That is it? Is this whole track? I hope damn not! It is nice but it tells nothing...and then the unnecessary #%&%&/ DRUMS part in the end!!!! WHY THE F:...like ARE YOU F SERIOUS?!!!!!
Whatever floats your boat people, whatever floats your boat...and mine too lol...

See for me it's like this, I'm less likely to put DAO's Redcliffe theme on my player even though I love it in game. The Inquisition one is already in it (I pre-ordered the DE so I will have it legitimately later )
Edit: it's not from DAI soundtrack apparently
On the DAI soundtrack, it's a little early to judge, I'm a bit wary of generic orchestral themes though, (this one feels a bit generic to me) and Into the Light is definitely not to my tastes (and doesn't fit in DA imo). The Main Theme and the music played in the Character creation demo are pretty orchestral too but I like them. The Map music on the website is awesome too.
