It's just such a shame that DA:I doesn't have exploration music at all really. For example in DA:O when you were in Orzammar you had this theme for the dwarves. Really set the mood.
Are you a fan of DAI's Soundtrack (Trevor Morris)? Or did you prefer DAO/2 (Inon Zur) Soundtrack more?

I can say unequivocally this game has the best music I've ever heard in a game, heck it competes really well with some of my favorite movie soundtracks. There's not one, not ONE piece of music I don't like in this game. I've never been able to say that before. I already loved Trevor Morris's music for Pillars of the Earth, and here he is again delivering pure awesomesauce.

The music is beautiful, but I'd love to have more of it. And some music in Skyhold (except for the war drums bug) would have been nice, like the Tavern music in DA2. And some scenes felt definitely lacking when it came to music... I'm having a romance scene fresh in mind, when I saw it I was like "This is nice and all, but it feels like there's something missing that could have elevated it to a whole new level... wait, there's no music!"
It wouldn't have had to be a whole song (I was never that fond of the elven song playing during the love scene in DA:O) but I'm thinking more of the song Reflections in ME2. Just a few sweet tones really sets the mood, and it's beautiful.

Inon Zur without a doubt. He has more versatility with instrumentation that is quintessential of a fantasy-medieval ambiance. A lot of memorable tunes from Origins: Camp music, Lothering, Lake Calenhad, Dalish Camp, Grey Warden theme, etc, to name but a few. Inon Zur's score is epic, for lack of a better word, but it is by no means to me, in any way immersive with the Dragon Age world. Morris's heavy use of percussion, ostinato and rhythm (via strings) sounds too modern, it can almost fit into Call of Duty games when you think about it. Moreover, Morris's score seeks to create more of an overall soundscape which inevitably belittles melodies that. This also happened to the Total War series, when you compare Rome 2 scores with previous Total War games or the Elder Scrolls for that matter. Not sure if I like such shift in game scores. I am sure Morris is a great composer, but for me, Inon Zur's score was crucial in making Origins a truly masterpiece and Dragon Age 2 salvageable.

Both are great but i like DAO more...
I want Jeremy Soule to compose DA 4 music..His music in ES Morrowind was simply amazing...ES Morrowind theme is nothing but a masterpiece...Beats DA theme by miles imo
Any Jeremy Soule fans here?

Is this the third thread in which:
- it is proposed that the soundtrack for DAI is not as good as the others and then a bunch of people comment to say actually it is.
Yes, I think so...
Has Trevor Morris spilled someone's beer?
EDIT: Jeremy Soule's work is outstanding.

Since music more than most things is a matter of personal taste, there's not a whole lot of sense in arguing better or worse. That said, from a personal view, I immediately noticed that the music sounded different to the first two DA games. And to me, the DAI soundtrack sounds a lot more generic hollywood blockbuster than the Inon Zur ones. They just had more character, more interesting instruments and vocals.
Please tell me you did not choke up when you heard the bard-interpretation of "I am the one" for the first time? It's because some of the tracks were so iconic that they stuck in your mind even after all those years. I can't honestly think of a single one from the new soundtrack that I'll remember. Even the main theme could just as well be Transformers 4. I think it's because Trevor Morris soundtrack relies a lot on fast and loud drums, which is something I don't like a lot. I prefer the more melodic approach from the Inon Zur soundtrack.
I still listen to the DAO soundtrack regularly, but I can't see that happen with the DAI one.

The thing is, you rarely hear it frequently enough for it to become a thing. The piece I like the most -I guess because it's the one that stuck- is the music in the Emerald Graves & the Orlesian Chateau MP level.
My favourite piece in the series is Leandra's Theme, but DA:O title theme and the Camp ambient music are close behind it.
P.S.: I like to mention that the musical scene was utterly terrible and ruined that song for me. I know I was playing on Nightmare, but I think Mother Giselle would have still easily solo'ed it, without the mega-tacky Bollywood choir.

DAI songs are mostly tunes, which is fine imo, as that serve the purpose they were made for. My favorite is the Empress of Fire, the french version, there is something about french in this song that makes it more pleasing to the ears.

I listen to music at work, primarily, as background music while performing routine experiments that don't require a lot of concentration. DAO and DA2 both had about 2 songs apiece that I still enjoy listening to on their own without the game playing... and the rest, no. They suited the game, yes, but then that woman starts yodeling, and I have to shut it off. The DAI soundtrack, however, is great background music for my day *and* it has a few tracks that I like to listen to all by themselves.
So while I like both the DAO and DA2 soundtracks while playing DAO or DA2, when it comes to listening to it on its own, DAI wins.

DAI's ST is superior by far.
That said, I think DAO/DA2 should never be forgotten as a foundation.

I love the soundtrack. It's the only thing the game did well. And whether or not the music sounds like "Dragon Age", the music sounds like "Dragon Age: Inquisition", and I'm pretty sure that's what they were going for.

The song used in DA:O, whatever it's called, was a copy from Lord Of the Rings. For that reason, i automatically hate it

I haven't changed my mind. DAO and to a lesser extent DAII still have better soundtracks. DAI is decent, but not Dragon Age and honestly most of the music outside of the main Inquisitor theme is forgettable or purely ambient noise. BioWare should have taken cues with how music was handled in Mass Effect when new composers were brought on board. It was different, yet these new composers still paid respect and homage to what was the original sound and built upon it. That's what DAI should have done. Very good game. Forgettable soundtrack. I doubt we'll see the next Dragon Age game anytime soon until the next Mass Effect and Casey Hudson's new IP are released, but this is something for BioWare to heavily think about the next time around.

What we get in DAI is good as good if not better than DAO or DA2, but this is mitigated by the vast areas of actual gameplay with nothing except the sound of your character running, deathly.

This doesn't seem to be a very consistent issue. So far I've been able to roam about and hear ambient music most of the time. The ambient music isn't anything to write home about, though. But then, DA:I does put a lot more emphasis on the other background noise, namely the wildlife, which isn't really apparent in the other games.
I'm a bit torn on the issue of ambient music. In DA:O, I really loved the way the camp music sounded...for a while. After listening to it on a continuous loop through every bit of dialogue at the camp in more than one playthrough, I got a little sick of it. The same is true of the Normandy ambient music in ME1. It was fun to hear it one last time in ME2's prologue, but I was kind of glad to see it go. I make a special exception for the war table and galaxy map, however.

I was very exited then was announced that Trevor Morris will be a composer for Inquisition, I really liked music he wrote for "Tudors".And he did good job, no doubt about that.At the same time, and some may call it nostalgia tinted glasses, but for me Dragon Age true character was captured by Inon Zur.Dark fantasy. It was sensual, melancholic, wild at times and very distinctive sound.I do understand why many prefer score by Trevor Morris .It's more 'mainstream', maybe, in good way. It's a theme for Hollywood historical movie. And it's perfect for DAI, because dark fantasy, as I see it, was left behind.Oh, and before someone tried to paint me as a "hater", I must add that last paragraph goes with neutral connotation. For me it's nor good and not bad, just a fact.Btw, one of my favorite tracks in DAI OST.
This really was one of the best tracks in the game, and there were an awful lot of great tracks, though my favorite would be the one that plays during Alexius's and the Northern Hunter's battles.

I love this track! One of my favorite from DAI.
Also, The Western Approach.
I still remember, when BW launched DAI official site with Thedas map, I kept the page opened at the background just so I can listen this track.
As I wrote before, this is Dragon Age sound for me: sensual yet strong, contradictory, but completed, mysterious, but straightforward.
I probably don't make sense, but that's how I feel.

I wish I was this compelled by the soundtrack as the rest of you folks... It just comes across as generic and uninteresting to me. I played the game well over 120 hours on my first playthrough and besides the Inquisitor theme, I don't even remember any of the soundtracks. It just didn't have the same appeal nor the pull that DAO had. Those sounds really struck at me and were so unique and alien. DAI just sounds like generic fantasy ripping off LotR and any other major franchise out there. It does somewhat match up to how I felt about DAI though: trying to be too big and too epic that it took itself too seriously.
