Where are you guys getting the soundtrack to DA:I?
You can find a variety of the songs already available online for your listening pleasure. Youtube is a great place to start. The various demos will also occasionally use different songs from the soundtrack.
The new soundtrack honestly comes across as a bit generic personally. I think it's extremely well-done, but it just doesn't fit what Dragon Age is. There is no similarity with the previous soundtracks, of which were amazing.
I found the previous soundtracks to feature a few amazing tracks with the rest being forgettable. Not to mention that seemingly half of Origins' soundtrack was lifted from the LOTR movies.
Do you feel the same way about John Williams and the Imperial March? It also borrows from Mars, Bringer of War.
There's a difference between taking inspiration from a score and more or less blatantly copying it. Most of the greatest franchises in existence have taken inspiration from previous works (Trevor could have used DAO/2's soundtracks for that purpose). Blatant copying is plagiarism and a crime.

That seems to be more of the case with DAI than DAO. The main theme for DAI reminds me a bit of the Rohan theme from LOTR. Honestly, all of the memorable themes and the ones that will stuck out don't remind me of LOTR at all. Perhaps the forgettable ones that most are mentioning are the ones that seem more LOTR in nature?

Here's a great example of a piece from the soundtrack not defined by the theme of said soundtrack. The Imperial March is as well-known and established on as the Star Wars theme itself without the latter setting the tone for it.

Yeah, mostly the battle and darkspawn themes. The blaring horns are just too Helm's Deep/Isengard.
Edit: For the most part I will side with more piano and violin every time. It's largely why I think ME3's soundtrack is far and away better than ME1/2. It may sound less science fiction-y but its simpler and more powerful to me.

I am going to wait and hear the music in context of the game before I make my judgement. But so far I like both equally.
So far from what we've heard I'm liking Trevor Morris' soundtrack a lot more than Inon Zur's. I always thought the soundtrack was one of the weakest areas of the DA series. It just wasn't that memorable.

It is definitely similar, but it isn't an exact copy. Also I have to agree with the previous poster who said that the similarity with Mars, Bringer of War was probably intentional.

I will agree that there is something about a piano, in particular, that can really bring out that raw emotion in a piece. While I thought ME3's soundtrack diverged a bit too far from ME1/2 in some aspects, it at least maintained elements of the original. I really did love the "Leaving Earth" track. Still gives me goosebumps:
Definitely agree with you about the Dark Spawn and blaring horns. I blame BioWare more so than Inon Zur for just being unoriginal and more or less blatantly copying LOTR. He only used a sound that made sense given the scenario.

Fair enough. I like Morris' work as well. It just doesn't sound like Dragon Age, which is my personal issue with it. I don't mind new sounds, but there should be some connection to what has come before.

Pretty much agree with this. Zimmer's piece was so blatantly a rip-off I couldn't stop myself from hearing Holst... at all.
I hear the Imperial March and I think Vader, not Holst. It does its job superbly.
I do hope the Origins/DA2 theme gets a remix somewhere in Inquisition even if it's not the main theme.
Also, Origins had a better title screen than Inquisition. Inquisition's with the mages and templars marching is just too busy, even though the song is great.
You may laugh but I spend a lot of time at the title screen my first time through every game I play. If a title screen really stands out I am probably already sold on the game with rare exceptions.

I think this one isn't far different from the main theme of Star wars, heavily Trombone and Tuba sound and drums in the background. They have the same style.
ME3 soundtrack surely doesn't seem really "sci-fi" as that of ME1 and ME2. But they are emotional and it goes well with the game's theme. But I feel like it doesn't seem very "Mass effect", the music sounds like it could be in any sad/ romantic movies xD (without the reaper's horn)
According to what I've heard so far, Trevor Morris is killing it. I've gotten more enjoyment out of the two or three songs I've heard than the whole of DA:O and DA2's soundtracks combined.

Without question, the DAO theme is the best. It is awesome.
That sound with the woman is so distinct and memorable (in that when you hear it again it instantly comes back to you) and really set the tone and feel. I had forgotten how good it was.
Hard to say whether I'm a fan of Morris. These tracks are the first I've heard of his work. However, it feels much more like Dragon Age music than the previous Dragon Age music.
I honestly don't remember the soundtrack of DA:O or DAII except the wailing woman. However I like the soundtrack of Inquisition so far.
I much prefer the new soundtrack over the older ones. The older ones had a few memorable pieces, but the rest are very forgettable.
Got some hope that DAI will be the first Dragon Age game with more than 2-3 tracks that I can listen to for longer periods of time
Trevor Morris by a fair margin. Outside of a few themes, DAO and DA2 soundtracks are totally unmemorable. The few tracks we've heard of DAI are all pretty good.
Of course, those could be the only memorable tracks in the whole game, but I doubt it.
While I liked some of the tracks from the previous games, the music all together never really stood out to me. UnLike biowares other games where I felt like the music really helped pull me into those worlds and moments, jade empire and the mass effect soundtracks for example.
So I'm hoping this new soundtrack can do that better.
I don't think it really matters that it's inconsistent with the music from the previous games, the series has had an identity crisis from game to game in many other areas as well. I found that Zur's music didn't work at all with the cinematic approach of DA2 and DA2 suffered for it, a new composer (or music style) was needed and I'm glad that's what we're getting in DAI. It may be a little jarring but I'd prefer that over a soundtrack that doesn't fit.
Apart from the opening theme in DAO, I can't remember any song from DAO or DA2. No offense to Inon Zur but his just music is just not the the type of soundtrack I like to listen to over and over again.
I'll be quite honest, apart from a select few tracks (most of them a reuse of the menu theme and camp ambient music), the track of Origins wasn't anything special. And I don't remember a single piece from DA2. Yet so far, Trevor Morris's music seems pretty good to me.
It's a bit sad, but Dragon Age never had great music like Mass Effect did. Hopefully it changes this time around.

I'm in the same boat as all these people. I love listening to Movie soundtracks or Game soundtracks but Dragon Age has had a very forgettable soundtrack. I'm hoping Morris can put the music for DA up on par with Mass Effect. To me all the pieces we've heard so far have more emotion, or at least they touch me more than Zur's music ever did.
Inon Zur composed some great tracks in both DA games. Leliana's Song. The Warden theme, and the camp ambient soundtrack are very memorable sounds. I also found the DA2 theme and Fenris's theme to be great.
However, Mass Effect 3 arguably has the best soundtrack from any BioWare game. The blend of classical, modern, and futuristic sounds is simply perfect. Tracks like "And End Once And For All", "I Was Lost Without You", "Leaving Earth", and "I'm Sorry" are quite memorable. It also reuses some of the series' best tracks, most notably "Vigil" at the end the Rannoch mission. I actually think of ME3 when I hear it, rather than ME1.
I'm hoping DAI can match it or more. The theme itself is impressive enough already, but I have refused to listen to any more of the soundtrack so I can keep things fresh. I have a feeling I won't be disappointed.

I love the Trevor Morris OST tracks we've heard. I do feel that the Origins sountrack very much suits Origins, but to me, DA:I is so much bigger, both in scope and in story that Trevor's music fits it perfectly. I'm super excited for it!
