The 'overhype' thing is happening for new IPs, where you are at the mercy of what the devs and marketing tell you about the game. Getting 'hyped' for more of a game you already know and like is quite different, I believe. We already know what Dragon Age is all about. Even if various of the things we've seen won't be there or the same, we already know that story and characters are Bioware's strong points.
Can this game live up to your hype?

If BioWare are masters in any one thing, it's making and developing fantastic characters...
unless you count DA2 and "out-from-nowhere-heroes" in ME3... this game means redemption if characters are well written

I've loved both of the other Dragon Age games; DA is my favorite franchise. In fact, I loved DA2 just as much as Origins, so I can't imagine not liking DAI. I've never played a BioWare game I didn't love, or at least like (ME3).
I think my level of hype is entirely reasonable and will be borne out come November. ![]()

I don't get hyped up for games in the same way I think a lot of people do. I'm barely ever interested in the big blockbuster titles, anymore. The last game I eagerly anticipated was Mass Effect 3, and before that, Skyrim.
I've probably played most of BioWare's titles (haven't played Jade Empire or Sonic RPG), and DA2 was the only one that disappointed me, and then, not even by that much.
I can enjoy something for being good. If I am to have fun playing a game, it doesn't need to be the best game I've ever played, ever. I think a lot of people expect that nowadays.
From what I've seen, Dragon Age Inquisition looks like it'll be a fun game, and I must admit that I haven't been excited for a game in this way since Mass Effect 3. I think a small number of people are overreacting because it isn't enough like its predecessors, especially in the area of combat, but I'm okay with the new combat. Hell, I'm excited for the new combat.
I play BioWare's RPGs for the same reasons I like to read fun books: they suck me into their worlds, and I can't help but want to stay there as long as I can. I can appreciate those who value gameplay over story. In a lot of cases, I do, too. I love me some old school Tribes, Quake, and Counter-Strike. But I value story and characters most of all.
Dragon Age Inquisition has been in development for quite a while, now, and I imagine that it's got some great characters, a deep story, and a beautiful world to explore. Of course I'm excited. You must be, too, because you're here reading this.
Edit: This is off-topic, but I wanted to show some love for Mass Effect 3. The ending was certainly a product of poor writing, but it didn't ruin the game for me. Perhaps it was because I was saying goodbye to a bunch of characters in whom I'd become emotionally invested, but there was more to it that that, I would argue. I think it's too bad that it's been treated as it has. The writers may have made some poor -- and, in some cases, terrible -- decisions, but I enjoyed it the most of all the games in the trilogy.

Of course it can, and I'm sure it will, ME3 despite its abysmal ending did live up to most of my expectations. That's because I base my expectations and my hype on what I see of the game, and I see no reason to belive the game will look any different that how it looks on the streams.

I think it can. Realistic expectations also play a part in my hype. I know there will be shortcuts taken in some areas. I know there will be parts of the game I don't particularly like or agree with, but if the other 90% of the game is what I think/hope it will be then I will consider it a success in my personal opinion.

My hype level on DAI is at a 3/10 and the only real reasons I'm getting it is that it's the only High Fantasy game coming out on next gen until the Witcher 3 but I actually have less interest in that one since I feel like jumping in at the middle or end of a series is out of place and not quite right, also DAI MP will likely be the best part of DAI so I'm interested in that too.

It will disappoint me in some ways and pleasantly surprise me in others. I learned way back when Halo 2 came out not to let hype/expectations ruin a game for me. It's going to be a good game.
The only thing that could really p!ss me off is an ending written in the Mac Walters or Casey Hudson fashion.

I make a point of trying to appreciate things on their own terms, without being hyper critical about what I expect.
So long as;
The game is mostly bug free (e.g. Doesn't crash every 20 minutes)
Isn't broken in any huge way (grossly op abilities, boring encounters, clumsy writing)
I'll be really excited to dive in and enjoy the experience for what it is.

Yes it can live up to my hype for it. I don't set unrealistic standards for games I look forward to. Some people just hype a game up too much. That is something I never do.

From what I learned through past game hypes it is up to a person's view about what the Hype is.
Most times people will over exaggerate things about what to expect in a new game.
That is why hype is a dangerous thing.

Given that DA2 was only a mild disappointment to me, I'd say Inquisition is shaping up to meet my expections nicely.

Yeah, exactly. More or less this for me. I tend to take things for what they are and get uber excited when new things related to characters and dialogue come up. I wouldn't say gameplay doesn't matter to me - it does - I'm just really flexible with what kind of gameplay I'll enjoy, and as long as I don't feel like that's getting in the way of my fun, I tend to be happy. Even when I'm hyped up for something.
One of the very, very few dealbreakers for me is only one save slot, and it's autosave only. Even that has exceptions, but I'm generally opposed to that on principle partly because I don't like developers dictating whether I not I save scum, but mainly due to the frustration it brings if you encounter a game-breaking bug or a glitch that screws you up. A few games I stopped playing because I couldn't be arsed to redo 10+ hours of gameplay just because their game was broken and I had no fallback. I can deal with limited saves, just give me at least one backup for cases like that. Thankfully, this has never been a problem with RPGs that I play.
I think for me, when I get hyped for something like Dragon Age, it's less "Oh, this thing will be absolutely perfect and amazing and {specific thing that is unrealistic to expect} will be there! YES!" but more, "Oh, there's cinematic interactive dialogue! Doing EMOTING. I like emoting! Ooh, we can make cool things! I like making cool things! Dragons? Yay, dragons! Oh look, we have a huge crib to fart around in! Nice!!"
... I guess I'm just a simple gal, haha. There are other areas of my life where I get super finicky about the details. The details of game genres I already love doesn't tend to be one of them.

So far no. The open world is not what I expected and a bit disappointed. The only thing that I like about it so far is the character creation. If the story is fantastic it will make up for everything.

My only hope for this game is to just be good. I desperately want more Dragon Age in the future as well as a great game come the 17th, as the lore and characters are in many places very interesting. So far I have not gotten any bad feelings about this game despite what they are changing, usually I get bad feelings about a game I am very interested in getting and it ends up right (Force Unleashed 2, Assassin's Creed 3, Dragon Age 2, and a good number more). I sincerely hope this game will be fun and worth far more than the money I spent on it, those games are the greatest in my eyes.

I can't see me not loving it. I've loved Dragon Age Origins, Awakening and Dragon Age II. Also loved all 3 Mass effects and didn't have any problems with them storywise. (Played through the dragon age games at least 6 times and each Mass Effect through 5 times) I've pre-ordered the Inquisitors Edition also, which I have only ever pre-ordered one game before- Skyrim. Also, I never usually would buy the collectors edition as they are too expensive but I've splurged this time round, it will be worth it! ![]()

I try not to overhype any game I play. That way I'm pleasantly surprised. I didn't overhype DA2 and it turned out (to me) to be a good game, tho others may feel differently.
DA:I... I can't help but get more and more excited the closer we get. I'm not expecting the world from it, just a long quest starring my custom made hero across some interesting lands with some interesting people. If DA:I can pull that off? I'll be one happy gamer.

I am rather hard to disappoint, as I never place unfair expectations on anything,
DAI may have a few quirks, but I never let them harm the entire experience.
I'd rather focus on the good rather than the bad... and have a good time with what's given.
Judging by BioWare's previous titles and what we have seen so far, DAI will have fun combat, an immersive setting, great companion interactions, well-written dialogue, inclusivity, an interesting storyline, a lot of choices for roleplaying and strategy, and a massive amount of non-redundant content.
In the end, that's all that matters. Insufficient hairstyles, silly interface designs, and repeated uses of The Cave hardly matter in the grand scheme of things.
