I liked DA2. When I could get past its flaws, it was a good game. Not great, but decent. If there was one thing I loved about it though, it was the characters.

Bioware has never (as far as I'm concerned) screwed up their characters. Anders was the closest thing to this, but only because they changed his personality from DAOA... As a new character, I would have had no issues meeting him.

My point is, so long as Bioware gets the characters right it will live up to my expectations. I don't need flashy amazing combat, I don't need a bunch of extra cool little features: What I'll remember about the game is the story, and the characters.

It should be able to, it would have to mess up pretty spectacularly not to.

I've tapered my expectations, I know already there will be things that aren't exactly perfect and not what I was hoping for so it helped plant my feat firm on the ground.  The only thing I'm particularly concerned about is that there perhaps will be too much wilderness and not enough of the built up areas...but hopefully that pans out.  I'm still looking forward to the game and there are things that look fantastic about it, but I think my expectations are fairly realistic.  As long as they don't pull a ME, I think I'm good.  ^_^

It should have few issues living up to it since I've on purpose kept my hype very low about the title. I like most of what I see and hopefully the game is fairly represented in the marketing. If it is then I'm good!

I think it will. I'm excited for the game, but I don't really have any expectations so I can't really be disappointed unless it ends up a glitchy unplayable mess.

Even if it doesn't, Josephine will be worth it.

I hope its better then DAO, a true sequel to DAO, not like DA2 was.

That is what I expect and nothing less. If that doesnt happend, Im probably never going to preorder the franchise again. I rather wait until the game is cheap like 10 bucks on Origin before I buy it.

The past year has cooled my hype drive to something reasonable. As one that prefers disks to digital, I am willing to wait a bit longer to play the game.

That's the thing, isn't it? I think the characters in this one are all very likeable. Or interesting at the very least. I'm actually having a hard time decided what my party will look like on my first playthrough, and this NEVER happened in former DA games. I'll have to wait to meet the characters in the game to decide and even then I think I'll have a hard time deciding who to bring along.

Even the Advisors all have their nice little particularities. I love Cullen. Leliana's always been my BFF. And Josephine looks like a very nice addition to the lot (beautiful and clever, the perfect mix). Heck, even Scout Harding looks like she's going to be awesome. So at least I can rest assured the characters (and, more importantly, their development) will be all worth it.

I'm fairly hyped, but the only way DA:I could not live up to it is by completely, and I mean completely, failing in the plot AND character development aspects - I wasn't even disappointed by DA2, despite its somewhat on-the-nose plot and lack of player agency, just because I loved all the characters so much. Given the bits of party banter we've seen, I'm not too worried. I can suffer through any gameplay if the story is good enough.

Since I don't really have particularly high expectations for it (I think it will be better than Dragon Age II, but nowhere near as good as Dragon Age: Origins), I think it can and will live up to my expectations.

I've reigned in my hype more or less completely. I expect it will be a good game and I'll ultimately enjoy it, but I'm not expecting it to be the best game ever, or even the best Bioware game ever. There's already a lot of things I don't agree with about this game, even if it's mostly minor stuff (no attribute point distribution like Diablo III, forced to wear Skyhold pajamas, lack of hub cities), but I refuse to go on either side of the rabid fanboy scale.

Have the things I disagree with affected my hype? Only a little. It'll affect how I play the game, like wanting to avoid Skyhold as much as possible, but that's about it.

That's a good attitude to have for DAI.

I think everyone can agree on one point: It will be a solid game in the franchise.

Dragon age inquisition will be a good game no doubt about that, but i know for a fact that DAi will never be as good as DAO, what i have seen and heard there are some importent elements that DAI have left out,

for starters: The classes abilities are limited, DAO had more freedom. (dual wielded warriors, warriors with archery capabilities etc), then im not sure about the conversation system with NPC but i will get back on that after the game is released.

I enjoyed the gameplay of the two previous ones, so I'll enjoy it even if it doesn't improve upon that.

However, it will need to do that to live up to my hype. As for the characters and the story, I'm taking on a mostly "wait and see" attitude. Honestly, I think it will fall well within the confines of the traditional "bioware game". But there's nothing wrong with that, as I enjoy that kind of product.

So far I think the game looks pretty fantastic, and except for one minor thing I love it all. They'd have to have pulled off the biggest bluff in history for this game to not live up to what we're expecting.

My only problem so far is it looks like they're trying to make this similar to Skyrim...and well...if I wanted to play Skyrim I'd play that.  But I want to play Dragon Age.

To the post above unless someone beats me to it skyrim took many ideas from many older games. This game does also most of the ideas are coming from the bg2 nw2 ect they also took some ideas from skyrim and rts games. This game could very well almost be a new whole genre. I think the game will do very well I give everything the benefit of the doubt for the most part however I am typically right when I think something is going to do good. They have been working on this for 4 years granted I still expect a few bugs when the game comes out still.

I think this game will live up to the hype. My only fear is that even one tiny little thing can set off a firestorm so I hope Bioware has played their cards well... but I think they probably have. I think worst-case scenario: this game will sell mostly to diehard fans initially, but as word-of-mouth picks up and spreads across the internet then more and more people will buy. Best-case scenario (which is what I suspect will happen), is this game will fly off the shelves like a bat out of hell the first week. But we'll see. Either way, I know that I'm going to thoroughly enjoy this game.

No game has every really lived up to my hype. I put ungodly expectations on what I want, even though I know I'll never get it. I guess hype up a game doesn't really effect me that much, unless it really messes up. I mean, GTAV and Far Cry both release on the same day. DAI could beat the former just because it's a re-release, but I don't see it beating the latter, which is fine and dandy.

It'll sell fine, people will buy the genres they like, and we can all go and play what games we want to play.

And as long as it doesn't DA2 or ME3 itself, plenty of people may even come back or come for the first time.

Well it already has not DA2 itself we have been given those facts already by what has been shown so far it has not M3 itself yet we will have to see the ending to know that.

This game will not live up to the hype, the last Bio ware game to do so or at least get close was ME2, DA2 and ME3 were both disappointing I bought both on pre order and learnt my lesson the hard way.

The price mark up on DAI is well over priced and I see no point in buying a game that wont meet the hype or expectations of myself, I'll wait for players to get hold of the game for a few months and see what a real review done by players is like and hope the price tag that is highly overpriced is dropped as soon as a game of year version is made with all the content added.

As EA have firmly got their model for making games now I'd expect DA:I to have like 10 DLC's all marked up at half the games price and maybe one expansion like DAO: Awakening at full price of the game. That said I can see there being a ton of useless cosmetic DLC's or short DLC's to get maybe a new companion for like £10-20 a time, EA's way is to sell you half a game at £50-60 then sell you the rest for like £100- £150 in small chunks unless this changes I'll be avoiding this title.

So while I'm a fan  ofthe dragon age series and the story that was  in DAO and I have managed to see past the flaws of DA2( it will never be as good as DAO/DAO:A) the fact that DA2 never got a good expansion like awakening makes me doubt DA:I will get one but we'll see.

I'd love to be proven wrong be so far every game after ME2 from bio ware has left a bitter taste in my wallet and I believe no game will meet the hype, that said the question remains would EA refund the full value of the game if after you play it your left disappointed because that never happened with ME3?

to the guy on a angry butt hurt troll rant lol first part EA does not make the game the team who makes ME and DA are not the same teams also they already did not make the same mistakes as that was in DA2 so your rant has not really affected anything but everyone can say what they want. I have never been really butt hurt by a game if a game is bad I just don't play it again also in the history of gaming games that are a series have it's ups and downs anyone who has been playing any game series knows this.
