"My" hype is pretty realistic, I think. So the game will most likely live up to that.

The next question is if that is really a game I can like. There are two very obvious features that could get under my skin and ruin things.

The voiced protagonist: I don't know how that will work out. This time, I'm at least prepared for it. And both Gaider and Laidlaw have said things about tweaking the dialogue system in order to make the protagonist more the player's char. So I'll at least make an effort. Though watching that video of the female voice actor was scary. If that is how it'll be all the time - which I don't think it will be - I'm heading for a disaster.

The flashy, cartoonish combat animations: This, I'm more confident I can mentally push aside and ignore. Just like the wild asymmetry and ridiculous nuke effects. In DA2, these just fueled my rage and hatred, for them doing that despicable thing to the DA franchise. Now I'm prepared and have accepted that DA (unlike most notably TW, but also TES, and actually every  really successful game) won't be a grounded, serious game with a realistic atmosphere anymore, but will instead take its cues from the likes of Bayonetta and Dynasty Warriors. I lament that, and am totally convinced that it's a colossal mistake. But I think I can live with it, if the rest of the experience delivers enough. And I think it will.

I don't really see much of DA:O in DA:I. I'm actually not aware of a single thing. ?  But I do see some interesting stuff from BG and other earlier games. And I kinda like Tycoon games, so that aspect of DA:I more intrigues me than scares me. If I can get some halfassed roleplay going, I believe I'll enjoy this game. ...Not long to go now...   :)

I am....excited and wary.

Fact 1: No DA game has let me down yet in terms of roleplaying. DA2 had a few problems, but since I could recognize the attempt to facilitate roleplaying even where it wasn't a full success, I can live with that. Statements by Bioware representatives and developers have also served to make me cautiously optimistic in that regard, though why they insist on the paraphrasing remains a complete mystery to me. I maintain that this is the worst feature added to crpgs since they exist.

Fact 2: No DA game has let me down yet in terms of storytelling. With the considerable caveat, though, that none of the plot points I find personally important has yet been resolved. Things were the same in ME before ME3 came out. However, as opposed to ME3, there isn't any heavy foreshadowing that almost everything might go exactly in a direction I'd hate, as opposed to only something. I remain wary of a pro-faith bias in the story, which will be attached to my character and which I won't be able to detach without being an assh*le to everyone. I also remain wary of the thematic message in antagonists who distinguish themselves by rejecting the dominant faith, as if that underscored their evil.

Apart from these things, it is my impression that with DAI, Bioware is going back to the roots in several aspects I find highly desirable. Most importantly, we get to explore a world again, after many games where that was increasingly non-existent. And what a world this is! If there's anything I'm super-excited about, it's the prospect of seeing all the impressive things in the videos on my own screen. The biggest disappointment in that regard would be the complete absence of cities, which has become a distinct possibility after recent statements by Mike Laidlaw.

And lastly, there is a long list of things I will like a great deal, from the CC to the crafting to the art style etc. etc.. I already know enough of those to have an informed opinion, which means I'm unlikely to be overhyped about them.

So....yeah, my hype level is low enough that DAI may reasonably live up to it, but there is also considerable room for disappointment.

Isn't broken in any huge way (grossly op abilities, boring encounters, clumsy writing)

Stop mentioning DA2...

I've played DA2 half a dozen times and ME3 over a dozen times, and according to some people those were the worst games ever made, so I don't really see a scenario where I'm going to walk away from this unsatisfied.

I certainly hope so, my expectations for this game aren't exactly high and thus my hype is fairly low, at the moment I think Bioware should be praising their lucky stars that this year's release schedule has been pretty lackluster and shows no real sign of changing and that the Witcher 3 has been moved back to next year otherwise I might not have even bothered.

nah.  ive learned long ago to  not get hyped for a game.. be it from bioware or otherwise.. im excited for the game sure.. but no different than i would be for any other release i follow.

as for the game itself.. ill evaluate it based on my experience and subjective view... as i always do with my games.

the one thing i can say currently though is.. i REALLY wish they'd use a US bank to process US transactions.. its idiotic that i have to either use EA cash cards or lower the security level of my credit/debit card in order purchase the game digitally.. this kind of thing makes me not want to support bioware products going forward... but as long as the cash cards are a viable to purchase EA games.. ill deal with it.

the only way this game could live up to my current excitement is if it came with a lifetime supply of blowjobs and beer. having said that, once my initial disappointment is through, ill still probably give it 10/10 and then squeel "GOTY" for an ingodly amount of time.

My expectations have been lowered by some of the things I've seen in the various vids/Twitch feeds.  So, while I'm no longer insanely excited, I suppose the game will match those lowered expectations.

I was overhyped before. Now I think I've seen too much. It's not that my expectations became lower or I overspoilt myself, its because the game no longer feels like novelty to me. I doubt I would feel upset if it was delayed.

Every time I start to feel hyped, I think "Mass Effect 3"

Hype dampened.  ;)
