"My" hype is pretty realistic, I think. So the game will most likely live up to that.
The next question is if that is really a game I can like. There are two very obvious features that could get under my skin and ruin things.
The voiced protagonist: I don't know how that will work out. This time, I'm at least prepared for it. And both Gaider and Laidlaw have said things about tweaking the dialogue system in order to make the protagonist more the player's char. So I'll at least make an effort. Though watching that video of the female voice actor was scary. If that is how it'll be all the time - which I don't think it will be - I'm heading for a disaster.
The flashy, cartoonish combat animations: This, I'm more confident I can mentally push aside and ignore. Just like the wild asymmetry and ridiculous nuke effects. In DA2, these just fueled my rage and hatred, for them doing that despicable thing to the DA franchise. Now I'm prepared and have accepted that DA (unlike most notably TW, but also TES, and actually every really successful game) won't be a grounded, serious game with a realistic atmosphere anymore, but will instead take its cues from the likes of Bayonetta and Dynasty Warriors. I lament that, and am totally convinced that it's a colossal mistake. But I think I can live with it, if the rest of the experience delivers enough. And I think it will.
I don't really see much of DA:O in DA:I. I'm actually not aware of a single thing. ? But I do see some interesting stuff from BG and other earlier games. And I kinda like Tycoon games, so that aspect of DA:I more intrigues me than scares me. If I can get some halfassed roleplay going, I believe I'll enjoy this game. ...Not long to go now... ![]()
