It overlooks the factor that Spiderman had the Amazing Spider Man 2 come out earlier in 2014 which of course would boost the sales of Spiderman themed items. Even thought the film was made by Sony it will still boost the sales of Marvel (in this case Spiderman) themed items. Whenever a movie releases for X superhero items related to said superhero, made by Y company, are going to have an increase in sales.

The articles on this site just make me facepalm. They ignore the factors that indicate WHY this is occurring, and instead write a snippet that just reports "X is happening". It's click bait and flame baiting at the same time!

It just tells you the news as it is. It's not his job to explain why. It's still undeniable that Spiderman is the most popular, Vastest comic character.

Spider-Man generated $1.3 billion dollars in global retail sales during 2013. That includes anything you would find at your local stores with a Spider-Man logo on it, from T-Shirts, to action figures, to Band-Aids. Coming in a distant second is Batman, who generated $494 million in retail sales.

I don't think it's just because TASM 2 boosted its sales.

I'd be far more concerned as why it is that way than just hearing it is.

What is it about Spiderman that makes him that way? What is it about X character that doesn't make them that way?

No, but it certainly didn't hurt it.

He's not defined by any other character. The rest of Marvel characters are either defined by their affiliation to the avengers or to the X-Men. He's a unique character.

And how does that make people appeal to him more?

Because of his unique character. It created plenty of opportunities for diverse and original story away from the avengers or X-Men story arches, Venom, Sinister six, ... etc. That's why his comics are the most popular.

Peter Parker is an average-ish person who happens to be really smart dealing with a lot of mundane problems who also is a superhero. In a bizarre ways his life is often the most realistic despite his relatively phenomenal powers. He's not a broody super genius master warrior detective with an emo past or a morally perfect alien (vs. Supes or Batman). That makes him more relatable.

I agree with the above statement about Pete being relatable because he's nerdy. Unfortunately, the terms "nerd" & "geek" are being stretched and mangled into something else entirely lately...

Am I one of the few excited about both DC and Marvel?

How many pro-both guys are out here?

Except he winds up being a super genius, Or, at the least, a "regular" genius. I mean, he is able to invent a material that is lightweight, extremely adhesive and is able to withstand tensile strength exponentially more than its thickness would normally indicate... all with a high school chemistry set.

Shh!

You're not supposed to mention that! It ruins Peter Parker's "normal guy" image!

He's got a 250 IQ.

Which is more than pretty much everyone.

...Yet he doesn't have life insurance.

So you can see a problem begin to emerge from this relateable thing.

No esque about it.

Mary Jane was a supermodel. I don't know if she still is, but she was when I was still reading.

Yes, but then he's an inspiration to "normal" guys. They can eventually land supermodel-esque ladies too!

Not really.

I watched all of Season 1.

It's very bleh until Cap 2 happens. Then it's just kinda ok.

Completely lost interest in Season 2.
