Eh I really don't get all the hate he gets.
Imho he is fine, his voice is fine and his head while funny is still fine. Besides he was designed by really talented people who do this as a daily job, so they know proper anatomy, bone structure etc. I doubt they would create an overly disproportionate character.
Also judging a voice quality from two sentences we heard in a trailer is unfair I think.

The thing that bothered me with that trailer was the female voiceover that sounded like a competition announcer for those godawful "give you a rundown of the stats" segments.  Bleh.

"And the Red Team, supercharged by the power of the ZX90 machine interface system . . ."

FAST FORWARD!!!!!!!

Either that or a spa advertisement.  Either way, terrible.

Am I supposed to feel bad for "lecturing" someone, in two whole sentences, to not judge a book by its cover?

It doesn't matter if its a game. It's a way of thinking that's simply wrong, and I will call you out on it.

We're done here. Bye.

and im calling you out on your double standards and hypocrisy, both of which you are completely blind to.

as for the iron bull, tbh i was really curious about this char before, too bad its all turned to dust now. From what ive understood we dont have to recruit all the companions, i really hope so, dont want him.

I think one of the main problems he has is that it sounds like he's trying too hard to make that particular voice and that he can't keep it in one whole sentence, therefore it sounds really unbelievable. I hope it doesn't break the immersion because if it does I'll have to get rid of him.

It also sounds like a voice you'd be doing when pretending your child's teddy bear is alive and can speak to them. Haha.

That was the American inquisitor? It sounded like a VO of someone trying to sell the game, something you'd hear on commercials..

This may be a little optimistic considering that they still can't get wrist position for two-handed sword to look anything remotely like natural.  The angles of shoulders, wrist, and elbow are all gooftastic and it looks TERRIBLE.

Females in particular have really long, skinny legs and high waists that make me think of Bayonetta (although nowhere near that exaggerated, of course.)

I don't mind it, exactly, but proper anatomy it ain't.

I liked Sera's voice in the trailer. :)

A good choice for the Bull imho is Frank Vincent but he's likely prohibitively expensive. I feel bad about the actor because of his enthusiasm but still can't help thinking it doesn't sound natural, especially after listening to Sera.

Its hard for me not to think of Vega when i hear Bull, feels like i just hear James Vega trying to make a funny voice, but maybe ill get used to it in the game, until then, i don't think he is going to be with me much.

I mean the voice might not be the biggest problem. It just the voice acting is just bad.  The voice is just a terrible monotone of someone reading a script.  Good voice  actor know how to emphasizes the tone of their voice and act out their scene.

The tones of people's voices fluctuate regularly, he still sounds like Bull to me. Actually, no matter the tone of his voice, I always hear Prinze tbh.

On a side note, in this trailer, it is very clear that Bull and James Vega have the same VA.

Holy frick! Freddy Prinze Jr is voicing the Iron Bull!

EDIT: Oh God, I wish I hadn't of known that as now all I can hear is James Vega doing some odd impersonation.  :(

I reckon it will turn out well, it just needs rime getting used to. Like me and Fenris, a lot of elves are soft-spoken whereas Fenris spoke with aggression. His voice was a first for me and worked out well.

I'm surprised at this topic, I thought Bull's voice was great in the trailer. In Under The Horns, perhaps cuz I could watch FPJ make the facial expressions necessary for that kind of vocal projection, it seemed more forced. In the most recent trailer, it's great, imo.

I agree with his head being way WAY too tiny for his body, though. I don't know who's idea that was but....yeah...

It does indeed not sound the same in this trailer as it did in others.

I'm not ashamed to admit that tiny head freaks me out.

Is it really a tiny head? Or is it a normal sized head with a huge body.

Anyway to me Bull's voice is a bit odd but I'm sure after I've played the game I'll be fine with it.

It's a normal head on a huge body.  Totally disproportionate so he does seems to be a bit caricature.  I mean imagine Yao Ming body with a normal size head.  At least Yao Ming's head is proportinate to his body.

I think I'll live with the notion that Iron Bull and James Vega have the same VA. I mean, they sound different. If I can manage the fact that the English female Inquisitor has the exact same voice as Sam Traynor, I think I'll be just fine with that.

I'm waiting until the game is out to make any real opinions on how the voice actually sounds, since a snapshot isn't really enough of an impression. At first glance of Zevran's accent, I thought 'what is this wacky Antonio Banderas impersonation?' but I rather like it now.

Maybe the older trailers got some magical voice modulation thing done to them?

Hmm, Im not an expert on animation, but I think one thing is to design a character model and another is to add different weapon animations to it. While they may get character models right, they may still have problems with weapons positioning. We've got 4 races and two genders in this game. I can forgive them little mistakes like that.
For me they look fine. I actually really like all character models in this game. Sure the females are a bit exaggerated but they dont look unrealistic to me. I still remember dwarves from DAO, the monkey long arms and weird body was the only reason i could never play them. I know people consider that as a racial trait, but i thought they looked really bad. If anything all races look much better, and im really tempted to play a dwarf.

I'm fine with his acting, but I'm afraid he's going to sound too much like Vega. Jen Hale can literally talk to oneself without sounding similar (e.g. Jedi Shan + femTrooper in SWTOR), but PF is not that cool, I'm afraid.

Jennifer Hale probably can talk to herself and sound different, but Satele Shane and the Female Trooper in SWtOR is not a good example. They sound much too similar. She is speaking to herself there, and it is immediately recognizable. There's only a difference of how much air she puts into the words as Satele, really.

Can't say whether or not I think IB and Vega are different enough, need more to go on.

It's very unlikely that Vega and IB will actually talk to each other, though, and thus this issue will presumably not actually arise.

Gideon Emery was doing a different sort of character, he also voiced Urianger for the English version of FFXIV. Fenris and Urianger are two completely different personalities but the gruff voice used for both of them.

I think Freddie Prince Jr was going for the James Bond sort of voice but he has too much NA accent to do a Sean Connery. So Iron Bull's voice has turned out slightly weird.

I think he sounded fine.  It's really hard to tell when you listen to these clips out of context.  I think playing the game and listening to the performance as it happens will be the real determinant in judging his voice.

In movies I wasn't a huge fan of Freddie Prinze Jr., but I liked him a lot as Vega in Mass Effect.  I've seen some of the clips on Youtube with him working as Iron Bull and I think he'll do a good job.  He seems to really be into it and enjoy it.  That really makes a big difference.  I'm not a voice expert, but I felt like the voices were completely different from his ME role and the DA role.

If he does as good a job with Iron Bull as he did with Vega, we should be in for a real treat.  I usually don't spend time looking up the voice actors in games, but sometimes I know who they are if it's obvious.  It's funny when you have no idea and get surprised by someone mentioning it.  I wouldn't have known about Freddie Prinze Jr. if I hadn't seen him in a video.
